Santiago should average 80 yds receiving next year if they use him right. Just like the Saints with Kamara.

We all said that last year.  Didn't happen.  The result is bubba has put himself in a position where the fan base will have little patience for anything that looks like coaching ineptitude.  In my opinion, lack of patience with this coaching staff is a good thing for the program.

  2. Zimmerman is supposedly a better game day player than a practice player, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in comparison between him and Ketteringham last fall.  Either way we should be in good shape at this position.

    Um, yes it does.
Two are proven to have good receiving hands (5, 22).

One of them and one of the other pair at all times.

Keep a receiving threat always available and look for match-up issues (LB on 22 or small DB on 5).

Olivera has made some incredible catches.  Can't believe we don't throw the ball to our backs more.

It frustrates me to no end to be watching other college football games and you see how other offenses utilize dynamic running backs. The comment about the UCF running back today was along the lines of, "well what position is he?" and the answer, "he's whatever we need him to be on that play, if he's in the backfield he's a running back, if he's out wide he's a wide receiver."

Santiago is that dynamic and yet more often than not we pound him between the tackles on a good 70% of his plays.

I think the same could be said of Olivera. He has great hands, probably better than most of our receivers.  As long as we have 3 or 4 capable running backs, we should be throwing the ball to him at least four to five times a game.

Outside of one season, UND has done !@#$ at the Division I level. For all you blow hards, UND football has a long way to go.

I'm calling a spade a spade while the rest of you represent ignorance is bliss.

In Bubba's second year we were seven and 4 and even bison fans have told me we should have been a lock for the playoffs. We would have likely won a playoff game or two that year; I think that was Bubba's best team. So we have had one rebuilding year, two good years and then this year. Despite not being a big fan of Rudy, I think there is still a lot of reason to think that this team will be decent next year. I think all but the most illogical would have to believe that at least some of the results of this past season can be attributed to injuries.  Team culture is it concern, probably brought on in part by how desperate UND was for talented recruits in these past few years.  I would expect Bubba well fix that issue. If he doesn't, the new AD should and  will replace him.  With the way the last few years have gone I would rather take my chances with having Bubba improve the culture and get the team back on track than roll the dice with a new coaching staff.

    ...1 win and 1 loss

That loss was a three point loss on the road to your conference’s likely champion.

Odd choice for an example when trying to show the Big Sky is equal to the MVFC.

The 1 win was in overtime against cal poly, who has only won 1 game all year.  UNI could easily be tied for 1st or second place in the valley Saturday night.  Seems like a reasonable comparison to me.

The two conferences aren't really on the same level at this point in time.  Doesn't take much to see that.

How did UNI do against the big sky this year?

On offense he was close. D, Bubba has got him by a country mile.

Notable muss recruits:. Ratelle, Reyes, Edwards, kuska, rich, odowu, Harris, golliday, the guy who broke or nearly broke dressler's all purpose yards record, Golliday, palendek??.

I don't think you can say bubba is out recruiting Muss at all.  Out coaching- yes at least on the defense.  With the HPC recruiting should not be an issue.  We will find out soon if it is.

  9.  On the series early in the 4th quarter where we fumbled at the goal line, does anyone have any idea on why we were running the play clock down to zero for a few plays?  Does Rudy get a bonus for winning the time of possession battle?

That’s the frustrating thing is 75% of the time they are in ok position.  Lack confidence of turning and looking for the ball or they need one more piece hand contact.  3rd down rate is struggling defensively because defense calls the old “9” route and throws it up.

Part of the problem is we have started a true freshman at corner for at least 4 years in a row now.

Ever since Schleusner went to SDSU they've opened up their offense. He must have brought his xbox down to Brookings....

Schleusner has also recruited some of the best players UND has had.

The offense is plenty experienced to be flexible.

Agree.  We have been hearing since spring that freshmen would be playing on the offensive line.  Those boys should have been ready for a.lot of playing time.  The excuse that they are young doesn't work when you have known for the past 6 months that they would be playing.

Was it amusing or was it disheartening listening to the home commentators, the one that played RB at Notre Dame wondering about 2 things?  1) where is the screen for UND 2) should find away to have Santiago and Brady on the field at the same time.

I'm going to have to say disheartening.

  14. I don't think we rolled thru the big sky last year.  We were a couple plays away from being 7-4, and that doesn't count barely beating Idaho State.  Our offense wasn't anything special last year.   In 2015 the offense was helped by 3 all conference line men in the middle, a healthy Stockwell, and Grady.  Not sure that there is any body of work from Rudy that shows Rudy to be a top notch o coordinater.  Bubba liked Rudy because he felt he did a great job at St cloud state... At that time they had a great RB, and I think Randy hedberg was the head coach.  Rudy's success at St cloud might have more to do with that.

i don't know this to be fact, just my guess from playing college and coaching high school ball. The staff has seen enough of Z this year already to know how he handles real live action. They are very impressed. However, they are comfortable with letting Studs finish his senior year leading the team.

    Hard to argue with that.

  16. Would have liked to see what Zim could have done against that defense, our receivers were getting open.  Still not overly impressed with Rudy, but he did show some willingness to throw the ball in the first half for a change even when we were only down by 7.  Saw a simple pass to Santiago go for 8 yards, don't know why we can't do that more with our backs, they can catch.  Losing flowers next week will hurt.  Should only be for the first half.

Agreed. Next season we will have 2 juniors and one freshman at qb (assuming Heidlebaugh switches positions). Need to always be planning for the future.

Isn't Zimmerman going to be a senior next year?

  18. I haven't had great luck with casting from the Pluto app on my phone to Chromecast.  Wondering if others have experienced the same?  How about those who use Roku?  And if it works well, are you casting to Roku from a device, or running the app directly on Roku?

Alright - I am as loyal to the football program as you can be. I absolute bleed green and it’s probably a little embarrassing how engulfed with this program I am. I have always read the message boards but have never taken the time to create an account or else just have decided to bite my tongue.

    I’ve finally had enough....

Rudy has to go plain and simple. It is embarrassing how predictable we are with not even a hint of creativity. Clearly he is unable to tailor his offense to the personnel he has or adjust mid game. Here are my top thoughts:

The fact that he continues to try and develop Brad Heidlebaugh tells me all I need to know on his gauge of talent. Nothing against Brad - but he’s not a division 1 quarterback. I don’t even know if he’s a division III qb. Clearly Rudy didn’t adjust his talent measuring stick after leaving Minot. (Side note - we need to bring in a scholarship quarterback every single year. The sole reason we missed the playoffs 2 years ago was the fact we didn’t have even a pulse as a backup qb and the coaching staff didn’t address the issue. If Ketteringham didn’t fall in our lap - do you guys realize what we would be dealing with next year? QB is the most important position on the team. Start acting like it. We are getting beat by teams with their backups and even 4th string. Our backups can hardly even take a snap).

The fact that he hasn’t made Grand Forks his home tells me all I need to know about commitment to the community.

We have the best runningback/offensive threat in the conference and legitimately a top 10 offensive player in the ENTIRE COUNTY and he sits on the sideline for at least half of our offensive snaps. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? John Santiago is that special of a talent and we are completely wasting it. The kid should NEVER leave the field. If you want to run Olivera and Johannason that is fine - but stick John out wide or have him run the jet motion. TEAMS WILL HAVE TO HONOR HIM. If he needs a rest - split him out wide and tell him to just stand there. TEAMS WILL HAVE TO HONOR HIM. I can’t even begin to fathom the stupidity of having our best player and one of the COUNTRY’S best player standing on the sideline. You can’t even make that up. How can we not have a package at this point with both John and Brady out there at the same time? Are you kidding me? Literally the 2 best running backs in the league and they both are on the sideline every other series, and now even more with JJ starting to get some reps.  Do people remember when McCaffery was at Stanford? The kid touched the ball every way possible. The only way Rudy can figure out how to give him the ball is pitch left and pitch right. Embarrassing.

Can we please mix in a play action on first down and/or throw it deep early????? Not too many bad things happen when you throw it deep. Incomplete? Whoop-dee-doo. Very rarely does it get picked off. We shout it from the mountain tops that we are going to run first - which is fine - but when the opposing team has 9 in the box and both corners are standing on their tip toes coming down hill at the snap - even if we had a good offensive line - that’s nearly an impossible task. You have to be able to show it to at least put a SMALL thought in the defense’s mind.

This is getting longer then it needs to and I could go on for days. I didn’t even scratch the surface but said enough to at least make me feel a little better. My last thought is that a healthy Keaton is still twice the QB then Zimmerman guys. It was great to see a backup come in and look like he’s held a football before - don’t get me wrong - but Keaton is twice the athlete and QB. We have to realize how bad the play calling is for Keaton and how much it sets him up to fail. He’s asked to hand it off 2 straight times into a brick wall and then on 3rd and long try to throw it (that is if we don’t decide to run draw). It is tough to get any qb in rhythm with those cards dealt.

Alright - I think my heart rate has come down a little. Thanks for listening to my venting session.....

Agree with a lot of this, but not sure Keaton is twice the QB Zim is.  I like Zims arm better, and if you were going to make a highlight reel of great passes this year, Zim might have the top five.  Zim does have a couple of strip sacks to his credit over his past two games, but then again so does Keaton.  Zim might have a higher ceiling and seeing him throw the ball some more is one of the few things I am looking forward to this season.

For starters how about an offense that is relatively easy to learn. Then one that is plastic each week and can exploit the opponent’s weaknesses. Too much to ask?

No.  That's what everyone else does. Although... everyone else is beating us... maybe that would work.  But your talking about a pretty big move for a coach who doesn't seem to embrace change.
