Would love to see the Engelstads sponsor an invitational at the REA if things have settled before May.  A 2020 tournament of champions.  Invite each of the six league champs.

1 UND and 2 Mankato get byes to the semis.  3 Cornell vs 6 American International and 4 Boston College vs 5 Penn State in the quarterfinal.  Play it over Friday night, Saturday night and Monday night final and donate profits to an appropriate cause.  It wouldn't be an NCAA title, but it would be some closure to the season.  Maybe throw in the Hobey annoucement at the same time since there won't be a Frozen Four.  Have Hoeven lean on the NCAA is some sort of exemption is needed to allow it.

There is going to be no sports programming in early April.  Hopefully this can happen, but doubt it.

I wonder if G would start alongside Rebraca next year, as there is no real solution at the 4 spot.  I don't know if Bergan would be ready for that day 1.

Agree on Rebraca and DAE, UND has 2 great building blocks with those two and the both have another level or two that they can both reach.

Would get that G will be a starter next year.

UST is currently DIII and have a lot of work to do.  If they join the Summit, they’ll be there for 15 years minimum.

There are numerous examples where a recently transitioned school went to a conference that didn't accept non full DI schools.  Northern Kentucky was invited to the Horizon from the Atlantic Sun at the very first moment and has dominated Horizon basketball since.

UST needs only it's new arena to get a promotion.

Really feel there will be new teams soon, like the following using mostly practice facilities:

Nashville:. Austin Peay U but using Clarksville new arena

    St Louis:. Lindenwood

    Tampa/Miami:. FGCU using existing arena

    Anaheim:. UC Irvine

    Las Vegas:. UNLV

    Islanders:. LIU

    San Jose:. San Jose St

    Detroit:. Oakland using new arena

    Pittsburgh:. Pitt

Philadelphia:. Penn using Penn's old arena

NJ Devil's:. Rutgers using new arena

    Capitals:. DC school

    Vancouver:. Simon Fraser

Douple actually saying this does not sound good for Augie's chances: “It’s a small school in a small state with a small alumni base with a small endowment,” Douple said on Dom Izzo’s radio show on WDAY-AM. “They have to get over that and present some added value in a media market where both SDSU and USD dominate. What is the added value and they have to sell that to our presidents.”

Sanford will leave a billion plus endowment and their phone would be ringing off the hook.

That was the big culture shock to me when I was there:  the core of the fan base was... old.

There wasn't a lot of people my age at basketball games.

If I still lived in GF or was close enough, i'd probably would have season tickets.

Your postings here make the fan base younger and more informed.

One reason that I wanted Jones gone is he didn't reach out to younger people.  Sather seems to try

This building is listed as "Athletes Village" in UND's 2018 Athletics master plan.  Not sure what that means exactly.  Hopefully it's housing for Athletes. Opposite view:

Well, I thought only FBS programs built athlete dorms.

There is a bunch of empty dorms now.  Football really seems to be getting an upgrade.

I've been reminded by clients, friends and family...that we are a "hockey" school. Heck you can hardly find the UND v SDSU home game on a TV at Buffalo Wild Wings in Grand Forks (and they have how many tv's in that place?).  The local businesses don't even seem to want to even try care anymore.... it appears.

I tell friends family and clients that I remember when we were an "everything" school, great atmosphere in the Hyslop, traveled well to NCC venues and tournament games.  My wife says that I must be mis-remembering, but I told her that she's too young to remember  those days, as she was just a kid.  That always gets me back in her good graces,. For a little while anyway.

Those days are sadly long gone.   Not sure what can be done to change it.  Sioux Falls is really not much longer a drive than Twin Cities..but for some reason, there doesn't seem to be much interest from anyone who wants to make the trip from around here.   I realize that we are underdogs, but that can be part of the fun.

My parents used to ride a bus to away games.  Most of the people now are so old that even getting to the Betty is trying or they have died.

Winning in basketball and football can change it.

  9. So has footballer Tim Belmore effectively replaced mbb Steve Brekke to get more long-term gifts for football?

Know they aren't the same jobs, but a football person was needed.   Said earlier that Brekke would be replaced and was ridiculed for it.

  10. The AD knows what will happen this spring and in 2023:  30 FCS programs will realign this spring and go FBS in 2023.  One year buyout in 2023.  Eric Schmidt will be the new coach in 2023.

  11. The conference that Jamestown is in now has six members, including affiliates, so they started sponsoring men's volleyball.

Men's volleyball has very low scholarship requirements and comparable attendance to the women's game.  Minnesota almost has that HS sport and Jamestown is in first place in it's first year.

Eight years ago High Point's bonds were rated junk by Moody's. $700 million worth of campus buildings were constructed using debt.

That is excellent info.  Too used to UND where debt isn't allowed.  Knew they constructed luxury dorms too.  They are remaking themselves as a high end school with stuff the kids want .

Their new arena was named after alum and current coach Tubby Smith, who gave a million to it.  Just assumed other gifts were a big part of it.

Debt financing doesn't work if the bonds are rated junk or lower.  But HPU continues to grow.

The next recession, HPU probably goes bankrupt.

High Point has a $60 million endowment. They shouldn't add D1 hockey even if they want to; they aren't in a financial position to build a successful team for the long term. The president saying that is undoubtedly a Kennedy type, using it as a stepping stone to a better gig.

High Point U is going to spend $1 billion on their next phase of.growth.  Their President.was.recently named a mover and shaker in NC.  Don't know how they afford.all those projects except by gifts.  Just finished a nice basketball arena and a convention cener.  They are remaking themselves as a northeast private, only warmer, as most of the students come from the Northeast

High Point athletics needs a signature sport.  Basketball in NC has so many good teams.  Football in DI NC is too expensive.  Hockey would give it a major chance of being relevant in NC as there isn't another team.  There also have baseball and lax, but winning takes time
