I think they wanted Arizona State and by adding Mankato the NCHC might as well add all the old WCHA teams they left behind. Adding Arizona State gives the NCHC power against the B1G. If it was me, I would have added Arizona State and told Mankato no. I still could see the WCHA trying to work out a deal with the NCHC involving the Alaska schools like there was with the WCHA and CCHA (that's if the both get saved). The WCHA could have made the whole Alaska thing easier on the other teams by sending two teams up there to play UAA one night then switch and play Alaska the next night. Then the Alaska teams would play some teams 3 time a year and other teams would only have to go up to Alaska once and not play them at home (Basically the WCHA could benefit by using travel partners) .

I think the NCHC didn't want to add Arizona State and tell Mankato no, so instead they told both no until UNLV or Arizona make the jump to D1 or BGSU applies to join. I don't buy the NCHC strength of schedule argument because Colorado College has been god awful. Only 3 D1 woman's hockey programs made money two years ago, if I remember right Clarkson and Vermont were two of them.

Women's hockey is covered by men's hockey revenue. The only way I see women's hockey cut is if the B1G starts a woman's hockey conference.

Looks like Montana hasn't had a club team since 2012. Montana played in arena like Arizons State does.

If I'm not mistaken Arizona State and the NCHC didn't have to release the letter if they didn't want to.

Key Arena has an obstructed view on the upper deck on one end.

I'd say future investment like how they have been using the NCHC tournament money.

It sounds like UAA or both them and Alaska have $54 billion in funding but dont want to spend $50 million. Maybe the WCHA should look into having travel partners, it could save some costs for teams whinning about costs.

I'm kind of surprised Creighton doesn't try to go NCAA D1 with their club team. They play their home games at Ralston Arena, I'm sure UNO wouldn't like to share the spotlight in Omaha with Creighton in hockey.

There is a rumor that UCLA was donated $25 million to start a NCAA D1 hockey program.
