  1. What's the best place to go before the game Saturday, in Madison?

There are lot's of places but my typical pre-game spot in Madison is The NItty Gritty.  It's basically right across the street from the arena. Wando's, The Red Shed, and State Street Brats are all good places as well.

  2. Not talking about sightlines. It is not a hockey-specific venue, that is for sure. The third level is worthless, as far as I'm concerned, even on the rail. I'm talking about the overall college hockey experience. I haven't seen nearly as many rinks as most people on this board (or probably you), but I can compare it to Mariucci, the Ralph, and a several others. Wisconsin fans just like to have fun, and it shows. I've gone to games there wearing Sioux colors when I was alone, with my kids, with friends, and with just my wife, and I've never encountered anything but good-natured ribbing. Seriously rude behavior happens, I know, like it does anywhere there are a lot of fans and too much booze, but if you keep your sense of humor, they will too 90% of the time.

Ok that I agree with.  They're entertaining as fans and they make sure they have fun.

  3. Badger fans are really grumbling this year with the attendance issues of recent years and their poor start this year.   It's a great venue for college hockey, though, and it is at its best when the Sioux come to town.   Badger fans love the UND series.  I'm sure the ugly red will be jacked to take the Sioux down and get their season back on track.

    Can't let that happen.

Really?  I don't know anyone who think Kohl Center is a good hockey arena.  I've seen about 30 games there and the sight lines for hockey aren't good  It works well for basketball however.

  4. I was there about 4 years ago.  Nothing close to UMTC fans.  You'll have some fans chirping, but pretty tolerable.

Back in the 80's and early 90's prior to their football program getting good, UW fans and the Dane County Coliseum was the most hostile in the WCHA hands down.  Night and day compared to what it's like now.

  5. Is this highly classified or something or why won't you share it? It's pretty hilarious that you're so secretive about it.

I doubt it's a huge secret but I don;t feel like posting the guys name on a message board is all.  To be honest it's someone who I've never heard of and nobody has heard of him so it really would be anti climatic to find out.  So I'll just keep my mouth shut after all. :)

  6.  Ban cell phones. Definition of irony: Students (and people in general) are less involved in the games because they're all on their damn cell phones, so REA improves wi-fi service this year. Brilliant.

If you ban cell phones the student section would be empty.  Most arena's and stadiums around the country are improving the Wi-Fi service to make sure the students still show up.

  7. I agree it has nothing to do with the conference, however, I guarantee it has everything to do with what team he plays on.

Are you kidding??  Why do fans of UND, one of the greatest and most storied college hockey programs of all time, feel like the little guy of college hockey who gets picked on?  It's nothing new and it's just never made sense to me.

  8. Hmnnnn...I guess that helps explain the paltry attendance numbers for the North Star Challenge Cup...

    #you're_not_Big_10_worthy_and_we_don't_care_to_watch_you_play

Again, that's a very short sighted view to take as It was only the first year of the conference.  And you must be talking about the Big Ten tournament because the North Star cup or whatever it's called had good attendance.  The playoff tourney didn't draw well but I'm not dumb enough to judge the success of a conference solely on a 2 day tournament.

  9. I think you are pretty much alone on that feeling. Almost every Gopher fan I have talked to hates the BTHC and wishes they were still in the old WCHA.

Yep I'm well aware im in the tiny minority amongst my fellow Gopher fans but they're either short sighted or only looking through the prism of college hockey. We are a Big Ten school end of story. I also know how arrogant my previous post sounded but think about it from my perspective. Why would I want my hockey team to be in a different conference than the rest of the other sports? Especially after the WCHA added Omaha and Bemidji. I have zero interest in playing these schools. Im also for expansion and more exposure for college hockey and there's not one person on this board that can disagree that the formation of the BTHC has already raised exposure and will eventually lead to more schools looking at college hockey.

  10. And the Penn States and Ohio States are SOOO much better....

As hockey programs, no they're not any better but they are national brands which was my point.  I love Gopher football and basketball and love being in the Big Ten and it always bothered me that the hockey team played league games against tiny schools that the rest of the country had never heard of and weren't members of the Big Ten.  Fans of smaller schools who have sports at lower levels like UND don't mind playing those schools, it's very normal to them.  But as a fan of a Big Ten school it just isn't attractive to me.  It's the reason I was 100% for the BTHC from the start.

  11. Who was cursed in the pig10

Gophers were picked to win the league if thats what your asking.  It's almost impossible to envision anyone else winning the BIG this year.  UW is down, MSU, OSU, and PSU just aren't there yet.  Michigan may challenge but that's doubtful.  It won't be a very strong conference, at least it's looking that way now but who knows.

  12. That was their minor league team that moved to Manitoba

Yep and that's when I fell in love with the name.  I was hoping they would use it again but that probably wasn't realistic.  The Wild name has actually grown on me and I don't hate it like I used to.

  13. Agreed. But that's a stupid state of being or state of existence. With "Wildmen", at least it's something human. You can imagine wildmen playing hockey. You can't imagine a state of being or an existence playing hockey. Throw Avalanche right in there with the Wild as another stupid nickname.

I've never been a fan of the Wild's nickname as well but I don't think it has anything to do with a "state of being" as you put it.  I believe it's simply referring to Minnesota's wilderness.

  14. Hey Mariucci, question for you;

Would you be even more proud if "the U" decided to not play the Irish?

Please enlighten us hicks from North Dakota. Teach us how this illogical double standard makes sense.

And then when you're all done with that, you can go on to explain how we are wrong in our believe that using the Sioux name is a good thing. Then you could even show us how we all have it wrong thinking that the value of the name is made evident by the Sioux people themselves voting overwhelmingly in support of its use and further the Sioux people, as a community, suing the NCAA for taking it away from them and us all.

Please please enlighten us so that we may have stars on our bellies like all of you at the U.

    Bunch of PUSSEY cats!

Irish and Redskins are not even remotely the same and you know it.  There is NO double standard, this is not apples to apples.  Same with the Vikings name or any other nickname you guys come up with to rationalize this issue to make you feel better.

Honestly though, if you truly think that Irish is the equivalent of Redskins than you are simply not smart enough to be in this discussion and I don't care how popmous that sounds.

  15. Uh, no. Not one rationalization. No emotion; just facts, like:

Fact: You handed your scheduling power over to the Big Ten but did not ensure they followed your scheduling policies.

Fact: "The U" has the ultimate, final decision of where and when to step onto the playing surface.

Both "facts" of yours are completely untrue. It's not nearly that simple, not nearly.
