  1. One classless move triggered the second:

    - The head shot was classless and deserved to be resolved

    - The flying cross check, instead of a man-up "Let's go", challenge is the second.*

    * The video I saw talked up Reilly for "defending his teammate" and how the NHLers will notice and love that. What I saw was a boy's approach to a man's problem, and the NHLers will notice, but won't love, that. Reilly should've skated up, popped his bucket off, dropped his gloves, and asked Wittchow to step up and step in. A flying cross check shows you weren't in control of your emotions and the situation; stepping up shows who's in charge.

:silly:   You keep seeing what you want to see.

  2. My take on the situation....a lot of classless hockey players. Except for rumpel. Gotta give him credit for sticking up for his guy when he's being tag teamed my some classless gophers.

Wisconsin took an intentional cheap shot and the Gophers responded.  If UND players acted the same way you would be praising them for sticking up for a teammate but of course when it's the Gophers they're classless.  And that 2-1 scrum you guys keep mentioning is much about nothing.  That happens every time there is a scrum of this size, every damn time.  Players just start grabbing people and sometimes you'll see a 2-1 for a few seconds. The 2 Gopher players didn't plan it and the 3 Badger guys didn't plan the 3-1 scrum either.  It just happens.

  3. Never mind Mariucci. I found a video that shows the start of the altercation (after the initial penalty) and yes, clearly a Gopher player was surrounded and being closely escorted by three Badger players. That certainly justifies other Gopher players coming to his aid. It does not justify leaving the bench or going 2 on 1 on a Badger player, but things happen quickly at such times.

I'm pretty sure Letteiri left the bench because Skjei was coming out of the penalty box and heading to the bench and Letteiri would replace him.  But as Skjei got near the bench that's when the hit happened so Skjei immediately went to Bristedt's defense and Letteiri was already coming onto the ice.  This seems logical as I can't imagine he would be dumb enough to leave the bench for the sole purpose of fighting knowing the consequences.

  4. Little 6 has no one in the top 16. Next week Michigan plays with poison. There is no upside playing the Badgers. Gophers get to the tough part of their schedule playing Mankato and possibly Duluth.

When it's all said and done I think Michigan and the Gophers make the tourney and both are good enough to make a run. Michigan has been one of the better teams in the country after their tough start.
  5. Then way was Rumple knocked into his own net after Rau ran him over?

Because he was selling it to draw a penalty and the ref didn't buy it. The refs disagreed with you guys on both plays and its not tough to figure out why. You guys see what you want to see when it's about the Gophers and especially Rau.
  6. Says the Gopher fan with his Maroon & Gold glasses on. Get real man.

I watched the game and yes, yes they did.

Says the UND fan with green colored glasses on. Rau barely touched Rumpel which is why the ref who had a perfect view didn't call a penalty. And there was zero embellishment when he was cross checked. He went down and immediately got up. He did nothing to sell it.
  7. Gotta love Kyle Rau...seconds into the game, he careens into Rumpel in the crease and bowls him over without himself recoiling at all. Then in the 3rd period, he's carrying the puck into the zone and a Badger D-man puts his stick into his back, Rau crumples to the ice like he just took a two-handed slash to the back of his right calf. No penalty on the Rumpel play...2:00 on Wisconsin for cross-checking in the 3rd. Unbelievable.

Neither of those plays happened as you described.
  8. If true, that irks me. That should be a 2:00 penalty. Nothing worse than a guy acting hurt to sell a call, then popping up and ready to go to start the PP. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering the team (and player) involved.

Well it's not true so you can rest easy. The simple fact that it was Rau who took the cheap shot results in UND fans automatically dismissing it just shows a lack of objectivity. Announcer Rob Andringa immediately said it was a five and the replay confirmed it. And someone please explain to me the notion that a player can't take a cheap shot that results in a major but still be ok enough to play the next shift.

  9. Michigan Beats Minnesota 4-3

Great game. Things just aren't clicking for the Gophers. Played a very good road game and still lose. Good thing its early January. Knowing your team hasn't come close to peaking is exciting but also nerve racking wondering if it will happen.

On a side note, with all the talk of the BIG hockey conference being down there is still no doubt that it has two teams very capable of winning it all. And I really think it's as down as it can be.
