I'll be interested to see how ticket sales are for this. I'm not sold on the fact that this will be a tough ticket to get. With Frozen Faceoff in Mpls the weekend before and frozen four in St Paul 2 weeks after. I’m not sure how many people are going to be excited to travel down for this. Without a guarantee of UND making the NCAA tournament I know I won’t be purchasing until I’m positive UND will be there. If I don't get tickets so be it.

That's a pretty big roll of the dice.
Concordia could put in a bid to host in the Moorhead Youth Arena and by policy the NCAA would take that over UND@REA in a two-bid situation. So it sounds like others bid to host in their home rink. Guess UND did what they should do.
-
If no one else bids for West Regionals, UND should be puting in a bid to host at the Ralph and nowhere else. NCAA would have not choice, but to give to UND.

Jost with first nhl goal tonight. Was hoping he would score tonight, but at frozen four. Almost like boeser and Jost planned it. Both against wild same day as big college games

I'd like to know the cost and time to switch the Ralph between Basketball and Hockey. Is it possible to have a 1pm Basketball game and an 8pm Hockey game on the same day? I would either play all games at the REA or Betty, don't like the idea of only some games at the Ralph. Need to decide which arena is our home court and play all games there. I think we lose a little home court advantage switching back and forth.
I hate the Betty for Men's Basketball. The Betty was a step down from the Hyslop IMO. I remember being excited to go there for the first time and being very disappointed. I thought it would be similar to the Ralph. Boy, was I wrong, it is closer to a HS gym. If we are going to make the next step in Men’s basketball we need a better arena then the Betty.

Can't waste money on something like this. Does anyone know why woman's hockey was added in the first place? Unless they add checking to the game it's not the same game.
And Schloss really needs to stop. It's rather embarrassing how the ones against this cut have responded. Grow up. Nothing is free in this world. The state told them they would need to cut their athletic budget. They had no choice. Woman's hockey is the most obvious and best choice.
And the lammy twins need to give it a rest. Complaining about this, wanting more money for the Olympics, and asking people to buy their t shirt to fund their family's free vacation to south Korea.
I wish the REA would pull their shirts off the shelves. I think if they are going to bad mouth the university then cut them off.

No more money needed to spent...other ways to promote the product...
Hmnnn...how do you promote a product without it costing any money? Craigslist?
Get the team and coach out in the Community.
I see bubba out all the time. Always visiting with people . He sends tweets out all the time.

I'm guessing Penn State's hockey team might outdraw the men's hoops team.
If done right, attendance would have grown. What did we need, another 20 years at -$2million per year?

They would only get a couple hundred fans in the 80' for WBB. Not sure on exact year as I was young. Less than w. Hockey gets now

Because if somebody said that it wouldn't be true.
The uptick in fans is all paying general crowd. The students have the same pattern/numbers every year.
No way.

How much more right could UND have done it than a $2 million per year loss? And attendance was dropping.
Get the coach and players out in the community. Take a page out of bubba book.

As attendance has grown for footbal I have never heard anyone say yeah but many of those are students and they get in for free

Duration of existence is really independent of the issue. Women's basketball is just more popular than women's hockey and there are far more factors involved with that than just the duration of a program's existence.
Kind of agree, but und is a little diffrerent. How many hockey teams out draw there mbb team? At one point women's bb attendance was less then women's hockey attendance now. Women bb started winning and fans would come for the women's bb game and leave before the mens game.
if done right attendance would have grown.

Especially "paid" attendance.
What % if the attendance is paid? None paying attendancecosts virtually nothing. But many purchase food and drink

So I guess being the gold standard for womens hockey was never the goal?
Unfortunately I don't think it was. Coach should have been given bonuses based on attendance and winning. Don't think he did much to try and build the program

How much does the lower bowl hold?
About 6500 I would guess. So over twice as much as the team with the highest attendance. I guess we should have dropped our men's hockey team in the early 90's 3-4k a game wouldn't cut it with you.

I'm interested to know what an acceptable number for attendance number would be

If basketball had two kids from Grand Forks who were Olympians they wouldn't be playing in the Betty. They would be playing in a packed Ralph.

Note quite.
Averages for the 3 years the twins were here:
2010/2011 - 1,259
2011/2012 - 1,406
2012/2013 - 1,216
Total average - 1,294WBB's lowest average during and since then was 1,469 (during their transition).
MBB's lowest average during and since then was 1,625
UND also charges for tickets for those games. The post I responded to was “no one came when the twins were here”. Point being it is very close to the amount for M/W Basketball. Basketball has had a lot longer to build their fan base. They missed a giant opportunity to grow the sport at UND during that time. They failed. UND has been ranked toward the top of Women Hockey in Attendance every year. Attendance is not the problem. They are right there with their peers. You can't compare to Men's Hockey. I get sick of the false stuff written about when it comes to Women hockey. Women Hockey charges the same way the Volleyball does. Champions Club, Students and Jr Champion member gets in free. All others pay. Problem is not attendance it is the extremely high costs.
For the record, I think UND made the correct move with the sports they dropped. It's just a shame they could not make women’s hockey work.
For the record USCHO shows a little greater for attendance.

Legit title contender equals 2 tournament appearances in 15 years with 0 wins? They were a contender with the twins. Lightning will not be in a bottle like that again and people still didn't attend those games.
False. When they were here. Attendance was just as good at both Basketball teams are right now. Averaged about 1500/Game. Problem is the REA seats 12K and seemed empty.

It's a sad day. Hopefull this is the last time we have to hear about sports being cut. In the long run if we are going to be a successful D1 program I'm sure it is for the best, just wish they would have made all the cut this time last year. Rip the band aid off and be done. They have been dragging there feet for too long on this.

I think it may be "tough guy hockey" if it were just the hit from Pionk on Cam. Diving, whining and hack play aren't tough guy hockey.
I just don't have the understanding of why people want to cheer for rivals within our conference. Eff DU and eff UMD.
I don't really consider UMD to be a rival. They are more like our little brother. We can pick on them, but no one else can.
As far as Denver. Things have changed a little bit since their coaching change. A lot of respect for Montgomery. After the tweets he sent last year during the Frozen four I wouldn't mind seeing him get a ring.

I know. That is why they are ahead of Notre Dame. Both Hockey East and Big Ten will claim a Notre Dame Championship.

I was with you until this part. If you are a #1 then you should get the right to host. Either at your home rink or a rink of your choice. Almost always assured of a great atmosphere and the lost revenue of drop in attendance would probably be made up in saving of travel cost of the host team.
