  1. Based on this I would put Nash at post. Start Webb, Anderson, Huff, Schuler and Nash. Play small with our best and run fast. If Traylor plays then have him back up Nash so we would have at least 2 players that play down low. This really shows how strong we will be at guards and no bigs without Brekke. This game only shows our weakness and nothing else playing against not better than a good high school team.

  2. Once again not impressed with Calcaterra. And oh boy we need to work on free throws.

Playing a D3 team and we don't have a point from our post players. That is a huge concern. If they can't dominate a D3 team what are they going to do against the Big Sky.

  3. What new policy?

Been discussed on other threads. Not sure exactly but something to do with dropping a class and attendance and if this occurs 3 times over your four years a one game suspension is automatic. The thing is with basketball these players are gone for at least 3 school days every other week. When they go to play Butler this year they will miss Monday thru Thursday the following week because they play Butler on Sunday and Bowling Green on Wednesday and come back on Thursday. There are professors that don't care if you play for the university and if you are not there for a pop quiz or exam they do not allow you to make it up , I've heard this many times and there is nothing the administration does to help the players. They drop a class or say screw it because of this and the athletics dept. gives them a warning.. It also takes scholarship money from them so it's a way the athletic administration is recouping money. I'm not even sure the players or coaching staff was aware of this until all these suspensions have been handed out this year. Read this I believe on the football or hockey forum. Got nothing to do with GPA or anything else. When I was in school all that mattered was that you passed and that was a good thing.

  4. I am thinking they will start:

    Webb

    Anderson

    Huff

    Nash

    Traylor

I could see Schuler starting too. It is really tough without Brekke because I don't see Salmonson or Calcaterra as starters at this time.

I also see this being the lineup. One change on everyone's prediction is due to Faisons new policy that is effecting every sport this year with one game suspensions one key player will be watching this game in street clothes( Schuler). Good thing its against a team that we should easily beat, back in uniform for Wisconsin. Faison trying to make an example of players in every sport this year with his new policy.

  5. He was battling multiple injuries last year. The year before, when he was healthier, he shot a ridiculous 68.2% from the field. That was 5th in the nation. Brekke never has been a shot blocker though.

I hope those other three are great this year, the problem is Traylor played all of 8 games last year and Salmonson and Cacaterra didn't play any, nor did Nash for that matter. I have no clue what to expect from any of them. I know what a healthy Brekke would provide though.

Excellent post. We all know what Brekke brought when he was healthy, very solid. Traylor could now be the key in the middle and based on what i saw from him in limited action last year he has the potential. Brekke will greatly be missed.

  6. Was unaware of the 11 players traveling, very good insight. For some reason I always assumed that there were 12 on the bench, never knew that they limited i tto only 11 that travel.

I believe it is a Big Sky rule. I've heard the Big Sky allows 12 maybe but UND limits it to 11. If we are in a crunch with so many guards maybe the athletic department will allow us to travel 12 if that is indeed the Big Sky limit. Just more money Faison will have to let go.

  7. Disagree 100%. You don't pull that kind of experience off the court in a season where you are basically going "all-in". Not sure I agree with pulling Hooker's red-shirt, but if Brekke isn't going to be able to play and Stefan isn't going to get a waiver, you could run with a pretty small line-up and play a lot of up and down basketball.

Something else you've got to consider, we only travel 11 players. If Stefen plays you will have Webb, Anderson, Huff, Schuler, Antwi, Benton, Stefen and then Hooker. That is basically 8 guards of your 11 players that travel. So you can't have 8 guards travel and only 3 bigs, cause you know they will get into foul trouble. That would leave Nash, Salmonson, Calcattera and Traylor, one of these guys then would not travel. So then of the 8 guards who does not travel so you will have at least another big? This is not even considering Hobaugh and the other walk-on that are also guards.

  8. The UND sports zone video today stated that Hooker was likely NOT to redshirt.

My thoughts is if Hooker plays you red-shirt Antwi. To me he is by far the weakest of the guards we have and if Hooker improves then Antwi's minutes will be affected the most.

  9. Beating Butler on Fox Sports 1 would be a huge boost to this team.

Between Butler, Wisconsin, and Oregon probably the only real shot at a win would be Butler and that would be a big upset. Our non-conference schedule is extremely difficult this year but with this team I believe we can keep a lot of these games close.

  10. Have heard he is still dealing with the concussion issues from last year, may be serious. Hopefully he can play but it's not sounding too good. This would be a huge loss.

Without Brekke this could change our season. He is the only proven post player we have. If this happens then who steps up and fills this role? Anybody here the results of the scrimmage last night against Minot?

  11. Brekke is the most proven and skilled offensive post player that the team has. If he sees a lot of minutes this year, it will be because he is healthy and he is talented, not to "reward" him for his time put in. This team suffered immensely last year due to his absence. IMO, if Brekke averages 25 minutes in 30 or so games this year, then this team will likely be dancing..................

    Nash plays a different position.

If Calcaterra can unseat Brekke, then he must be a special player................

Agree 100%. Brekke has proven over and over that when he touches the ball down low its a very high percentage 2 points. He as well as several others do not touch the ball enough or shoot the ball enough. Brekke is our post player no doubt.

  12. He was a walk-on at Green Bay last year and with our scholarship situation this year I would also think he is a walk-on with us. Will be interesting if he is granted waivers with all the talent we already have at the guard position.

  13. I also like our chances to win the Big Sky. However, Weber and Montana are still the teams to beat as they always are. We will definitely be battle tested leading up to the first Big Sky game and I hope no one gets discouraged with our record leading into this first Big Sky game. I would be very excited if we go 5-5 our first 10 games. Being on the road you figure loses to Wisconsin, Oregon and Butler. The other 2 teams in Oregon will also be a handful as they finished very high in their respected conferences last year. NDSU and SDSU will also be a very good game but at least we have them at home. It is a great 10 game non-conference schedule for sure.
