  1. You seem to make the nickname thing out to be a little more meaningful than it is. 8 national titles>1
  2. He got banned at Bisonville, makes your karma comment a little bit funny. Specially because it was only a day later.
  3. Yes, I'm very insensitive. And to he who said I might be Lakes, no, he types in ALL CAPS and misspells a lot of words. Stereotypical....definitely, as we all know, stereotypes don't come out of nowhere. I personally would have much less of a problem with natives if they took advantage of opportunities given to them. Have you guys been to Belcourt? Please do, talk to people who have lived there who are not natives. I have absolutely nothing against the natives who do a good job advancing in life.
  4. Trust me, I have considered it. I don't know what culture you are really referring to anymore. 200 years ago, they had a culture, nowadays....not really. The only "Native" I can honestly say I respect is Payton DeCoteau from your football team. Damn good wrestler and seemed like a good guy.
  5. JUST IGNORE HIM!!! JUST IGNORE THAT AN AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED BY UND!!! Seriously though, they got it in ink, it will be tough to make that go away. Think of it this way, you guys work as a GM for the Vikings. Jared Allen signs a deal for 4 years/35 million. Later when he finds out he could have gotten 45 million he tells you that he deserves a new deal just a week later, and that he will sue you for that extra 10 million. He doesn't really have a case. Neither does UND.
  6. We'll see what happens I suppose. Hopefully its more than 5 grand but if not, oh well. As long as I can see the team play I will be happy.
  7. Rich tradition and history who have fought for centuries? Bud, Wounded Knee was 120 years ago. Since then, all the "sioux" have done is sit on reservations...drink cheap alcohol, smoke a lot, live in their own filth, get fat, and complain about their "people" having land stolen from them. And if it pays them so much "homage" why didn't the one tribe not even vote? I've told people before that I would be more than happy to be the Farmers or Aggies, it is a nickname. A NICKNAME. Not like they are shutting down the program.
  8. Ok, while they may have settled(your post makes sense), they gave UND time, around 3 years if I am correct. UND signed off on it, and couldn't get it done. We can discuss the one tribe not voting over and over again for an eternity but the only important part is exactly that. UND didn't get them to agree. So by the agreement, UND has to give up their nickname. Plain and Simple. The other schools did what they had to do to get it passed for them, UND didn't. UND has also been having issues for quite some time even before the NCAA made this rule.** Just let the nickname go, I'm not saying be happy about it, im not saying celebrate it, but let it go. The Oilers became the Titans, life went on. It is at the end of the day, a nickname. If they keep the name and get sanctioned, UND's football team gets hurt by it. ** I do not agree with the rule, but it is a rule that they made for their association.
  9. Can't overpay to see the Herd rocking and rolling. We'll see what happens(result of the game, how many fans are representing the herd there) I'll guess about 10-15 thousand herd fans.
  10. The big cases (Florida St., Utah, Central Mich) didn't capitulate. They just got the approval. The Sioux nation is apart of some of North Dakota. Don't throw us all into one basket. I sure as hell do not have a drop of "Injin" blood in me. Just Tiger blood, me and charlie sheen. They aren't wrong. Their club, their rules. Essentially.....anyone BUT them is wrong.
  11. Thats the thing in Fargo too People have been spoiled by watching games in a 68 degree environment instead of 15-85 degrees
  12. I'll be honest, you don't hear much about either school. Lately if you read some of the backwater sports websites they'll have a short article about the UND nickname issues, but no press is better than bad press. If UND makes the Frozen Four, they'll make it onto espn for a couples minutes with the other 3 teams. If NDSU wins against Kansas, Minnesota, something like that, they'll get on for a coupple minutes. NDSU isn't an FCS powerhouse, maybe sometime, but not right now. And no Bison fans take any pride in being associated with "Division I championship hockey," about half the teams aren't even D-I that are members of D-1. And lets be real here, I can tear apart any argument UND folks throw out there. UND folks will believe they can tear apart any of my arguments. The one thing you guys will never be able to touch(PETA INVOLVEMENT PENDING), is our nickname, Go Bison! 8>1 "Whioux Suck S hit" P.S. We don't really worry too much about hockey all-americans, how many are United States citizens, Parise is I know, but other than him? last I checked being Canadian pretty much means you have to play hockey because you are too small/slow or all of the above to play basketball or football.
  13. I'm not trying to be a hater....but I will say it again, 25,000 isn't in the cards for UND. Start selling out the Alerus before you put too much thought into a new stadium(unless you receive a nice big check, in which case, do something fun with it.)
  14. Yeah, you guys with the exception of this guy assume everyone who isn't a UND fan on here is a troll. A troll tries to make people mad and ruin there day, I have yet to do that so far(especially on this thread), so as for trolling, I think it'd be safe to say the way you guys are talking about NDSU that would make you guys trolling on this thread, as NDSU really doesn't have much to do with UND possibly receiving a nice big donation for the football program.
  15. Nice to meet a Sioux fan who kind of understands the whole process of football and UND's current situation regarding it. I hate everything about UND (specially this idiot trying to say UND can rock a 25,000 stadium right now), but someone not spouting off on me for saying UND really doesn't have what it takes at this point in time to put 25,000 people in a stadium is always nice.
  16. Oh of course some NDSU folks would get pretty bent up about the Bison name thing, I'd also put myself on record as calling them idiots. Its like not liking the Tenessee Titans because you liked the name Oilers more. And the Tune of my music, is Viva La Vida, lyrics modified to show how UND is hurting itself.
  17. Big Sky came down to NDSU vs. Northern Colorado, they got it, we didn't. At the time, they were doing really well in football, we were only doing ok. Its all good. Their athletic program isn't doing so good, ours is doing much better. Lik Johnny5 said, 25,000 is pretty well impossible. I wouldn't even venture to say UND has a MUCH LARGER FAN BASE, although having hockey probably does give them the edge, if you do football fans, NDSU is probably going to have more, I think attendence figures will suggest that. UND is also not really the flagship anymore, kinda 1a. and 1b. sort of thing. That name recognition is the exact same as NDSU's, which is only average. I think most of you can agree with me on that, people from outside of North Dakota get us two schools confused all of the time. I've had people tell me that NDSU hockey sure brought a lot of fans to St. Paul, obviously thats incorrect. My friends have had people say it was cool to see North Dakota do well in the FCS playoffs. Don't try and convince yourself that UND is the next Boise or anything, because neither UND nor NDSU is. I was not trolling bud, simply said 25,000 seems a little out of the question. 15-18,000 like that one of you suggested seems a lot more reasonable. First things first however, get a team that people want to come watch. Unless the product on the field improves, people don't come watch. I don't know a lot about where that golf course is. Is it near campus?
  18. I don't think UND would ever need a stadium that holds more than 15,000 for the forseeable future. You are not going FBS anytime in the next 10 years. Name a conference that is looking for a team that RIGHT NOW, isn't very good. The conferences will snatch up the bigger onces (like Montana, Appalachian St., Jacksonville St., Villanova, etc.) Your team averaged what, like 7,000 fans this year. I'm sorry to rain on the parade but UND simply doesn't have the football demand or program right now for some 25,000 person stadium. FBS is a really tough thing from what I've been reading, schools UND/NDSU size actually lose money almost everytime they go to a bowl game. Just be happy in the Big Sky once your in and once you are competitive again. Btw, whoever said the Alerus is bad for football is right. Bad atmosphere, bad design, should have continued playing at Memorial Stadium. Maybe spend a big donation on re-doing the old stadium? Sorry for the rant but seeing someone upset about a 25,000 fan stadium when you only get 7-10 thousand fans usually, makes me a little fired up. Sioux people know hockey, I know football, and UND can't fill up a stadium that size for now.
  19. Me and the dad discussed this already. My mom asked us what we'd think, I can care less what the Bison are called. I cheer for North Dakota State University, the Bison just happens to be our nickname. We were the Farmers a long time ago, if we were that now, I doubt it would affect how much I like the team. In the end, it is a nickname, not worth getting your school into more and more hot water. From the light reading I've done, the nickname has brought only more harm than good to the University. If you are a Sioux fan more than a University of North Dakota fan, well then I guess your sad little world is coming down. The writing has been on the wall since the 90's, time to face the music.
  20. I think someone mentioned sueing them for anti-trust, which I THINK implies they have a sort of monopoly. I'm not super educated on the topic, I sleep in economics all the time. So that is why I brought up anti-trust, if someone who actually has knowledge on the topic of anti-trust and if UND could make a case for it, I'd be really grateful.
  21. Yes, our baseball team blows, I actually read about our team a couple years ago in the USA Today, they threw a no-hitter and STILL lost! Thank God we don't put a whole lot of effort into baseball.
  22. Let me clarify my thoughts, It sounded to me like the legislature may have(or may not have, you guys would know more than I would) sounded like UND could not make concessions such as wearing alternate jerseys for championships. Also, the thoughts I've seen around makes it seem like the BTHC was going to try and play a lot of games against the WCHA and CCHA because 6 or 7 teams really won't be enough for the conference to be a traditional conference right now as we know it. Also from what I've heard(nothing official, just rumors), some folks think since out east, a lot of the schools are politically correct with everything, a lot of them will blacklist UND as well. That is entirely rumors right now but you guys can see what I'm getting at. I feel like you guys are really throwing the football team up there under the bus now, you guys know you can't host playoff games now. How bad would that suck if you went 11-0 in the Big Sky(pretty solid conference), and then had to travel to say.....a 7-4 team from the CAA or SoCon? I just think it seems unfair to the football program is all. As for the media envy thoughts, I'm fine with the bad press UND is getting, its about time considering our football team in fargo, (best buy theft, solicitation of a minor, etc.) You guys are taking a ton of pressure off of NDSU haha.....well, sort of....not really. *I shall put myself on record as I usually do, saying I do not think that UND should have to change their nickname, it really isn't the NCAA's business. They really shouldn't worry too much. However, it does seem like UND is the only school that has had trouble getting the proper support(Utah, Central MIch. Florida St. have all had no issues that I have seen so far) Now do I think it'd be funny if the crap hits the fan up north? Yes. Very sorry for rubbing you guys the wrong way, I just think you guys are making a big big mistake right now. I hope everything works out fine for UND, I enjoy the little mud slinging contests the fans of each school have from time to time.
  23. The NAIA is independent of the NCAA correct? As I am not a lawyer, or anything close to that, I am probably way off but couldn't the NCAA say there are other College Athletic Associations out there that may accept the University of North Dakota?
  24. You folks that cheer for UND have no idea what you are getting yourselves into. The NCAA can mess up your schools athletics programs so bad the only way you guys will know each teams records from each other will be how many games they usually play. You'll see a lot of 3-8's and 10-20's across the board if you don't fix this !@#$ now. The NCAA, is a large organization, the University of North Dakota made an agreement with them back in '07(I think it's 07?) saying they had a couple years to get support. They didn't get the support. Plain and Simple. Now the Legislature messes you guys up even more now. Saying you must use the logo and name all the time. Well, funny thing we all know is that UND has the logo on their hockey jerseys, another funny thing is that the NCAA says you can't have your logo on your jerseys at post-season events. So now you might not even be allowed into the hockey championships which you guys all love sooo much, because of some state law you guys are all cheering. Thats without me even mentioning some schools have/are considering putting you guys on a blacklist of teams they won't play because of nickname/logo issues. Retire the name, find a new one. Make the circus stop. Cause in the end, we all know who it is biting in the ass.
