    2013 Recruiting

that's why I asked the question a couple of posts earlier: who deserves the credit for this? For the 1st time in a long time I see evidence of a PLAN with our recruiting. Multiple offers on certain dates, mention of UND in the Chicago tribune...these are all great things! keep it up!

    2013 Recruiting

I had a question: Someone earlier on this thread mentioned that kotelnicki took over the recruiting coordinator duties when belmore left. How much of this aggressive approach is he responsible for and how much is it mussman or how much of it is individual assistants? I guess my more general question is what exactly does a recruiting coordinator do? Does he make decisions about all positions and who to offer?
  3. Don't know who they have hired, but I think a guy that deserves a little more mention might be kotelnicki. If you're going to talk about the front 7 I think you have to include him. His name hasn't been brought up a lot when talking about the defense because everybody associates him with the special teams but from what I've heard he did coach all 4 LBs last year and they certainly looked a lot better this year than in any year in recent memory. I also watched his interview on the LBs from wednesday and I just like the guy....seems like there is a lot of substance to him. I think he might be one of the more valuable coaches on the staff.

NOt sure what has/will happen in the cities with John Kelling leaving but I see that we have been pretty aggressive in there so far. We've offered more kids out of the twin cities earlier than I can ever remember. Don't know if this is just by chance or by design.
  5. boys I hate to be the one to say this but our old HC really has his ass on the hot seat down there. He came into a perennial I-AA power and has since failed to make the playoffs the last 2 years. You can say what you want about winning out the rest of the season, but with 2 conference losses already under their belt, they have basically guaranteed that they won't be getting in this year. Don't know what the issues are with their struggles, but if they don't have a DEEP playoff run next year he might be fired.

    Fire Muss

I had a question on this. Does anybody know if Kotelnicki even runs all of the special teams? When I played each special team was led by a different coach? Is he getting too much credit for what the special teams does each week?

Heard from someone in the know that kotelnicki will coach all 4 linebackers and a new incoming coach will take the corners. I personally think this is a good thing.
  8. This is ridiculous. Are we really going to go down this road again? Didn't we see how much trouble it has already gotten us in whenever you start involving spineless legislators. My advice to anyone who cares about the UNIVERSITY as a whole and not just the painting on the floor of the hockey arena: stay the hell out of it and let the professionals do their work. The less involved the legislators are at this point the better. The only thing they have left to do is to vote in November to repeal it or the UND athletic department is DONE. DONE people. Chewey....you're a well-intended idiot.
  9. Sometimes I wonder if there really are that many morons on this message board or if it is just one guy logged-in under 10 different names. Look, there are so many stupid points on this thread that it is hard to even know where to start. So I will simply say that Dr. Kelley and Brian Faison both have the best interest of the ENTIRE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT in mind and not just what is best for one sport. I have watched with DISGUST as both of these guys have come under attack in the media the past month, particulary when it has come at the hands of former hockey alums like Burgraff. These guys "get it" when it comes to Division I athletics. Can we not compare them to the last two jerk-offs we had at those spots (Kupchella and Buning) and not agree we upgraded? It isn't quite as conspiratorial as many of you would like to make it. I personally respect the hell out of Kelley for coming out and saying what anyone with common-sense already can see: That keeping the nickname will have major negative consequences for all of UND athletics (Yes, even precious hockey). I will defer to his and Brian Faison's expertise on the matter between their combined 50+ years working in college administrations as opposed to the expert bartenders, farmers, and car mechanics that might be posting on here. I feel dumber for having even taken the time to respond to the original post on this thread.

    Spring Game

Yeah, I noticed that about the special teams too. However, I'm not even close to hitting the panic button here. Of all three units, this one has easily been the most consistent over the past couple of seasons. It's kept us in A LOT of games. I trust Coach K to have them going by the time we take the field against Drake next year!

cowboy catering/italian moon: anybody who brings a whole hog to a bbq competition gets my vote immediately. It was delicious.

    Spring Game

Now that it is over, I can easily see why the athletic department spent so much time promoting it. I had an absolute BLAST with my family out in the tailgate section. It was quite literally cooler than just about anything I have seen at a regular-season UND football game. My kids love the games, they participated in the youth clinic, and we ate a lot of food. The guy at the green mill trailer even gave me and my wife a couple of free jello shots! How cool is that? 2 thumbs up from this guy on the spring game.... Oh yeah, and the game was fun too!
  13. I'm going to go and I'm bringing my family with and also meeting a few friend out there. This stupid-ass weather isn't going to stop me from something I've been looking forward to for a few weeks! Man was I pissed yesterday when I saw how much it was snowing! I'm curious to see what this tailgating competition looks like. I think it will be pretty cool. Why don't they do something like that for each game?
  14. I was also there and I would echo the previous poster's comments. I noticed Jay Nelson standing on the sideline. Anyone know what has happened to him? I only ask as you mentioned the punt team difficulties and I believe that he was the starting long snapper last year. Also, I was very impressed with Jake Miller's running. Kid looks to be taking a step during his first spring. Other things I noticed: -We are definitely more athletic at the OLB spot than in the previuos years. -There were 2 kickers taking reps at FGs today. One was Zeb Miller and the other kid wore a red #9. Not sure who that is but he did get one blocked by Mackey. -The offense did seem to run the ball fairly effectively against the defense. -Even though they could run the ball effectively they didn't seem able to finish off drives. There were numerous instances of Muss giving them another down because they dropped an exchange or the offense coming to the line and then going back into the huddle because of some procedural issue like not having enough players out there, somebody not motioning, etc. -Coach Mussman looked extremely upset at times today with the offense. More upset than I have ever seen him in previous springs. Guess you can tell he's got the fire back now that he is coaching the O-Line again.
  15. Heard coach love and coach freund on the big dogz this morning! They were pushing the spring game as well. The athletic department sure is pushing the heck out of this thing. Suppose they're hoping it is a big deal.
  16. Basically that there was going to be a boatload of free food there from area restaurants around 11 and just letting everyone know that they are doing their youth kids clinic again. I guess they're also doing a tailgating competition and the categories are ribs or burgers. The guy he was on the radio with is going to be one of the judges. I'm taking my two kids for sure. It's free food and keeps them busy for an hour! He also said that they are changing the format of the game this year. They're splitting the team in half and playing a real game but it's only going to last an hour. I actually think this will make the game a lot more interesting. God bless UND football but the spring game has been pretty difficult to watch in years past. Hopefully this helps!
