  1. It's definitely the lighting. Look at the pic of Ratelle. The jerseys appear darker (although not as dark as the pic of Mollberg) but they still match the helmets. The helmets are definitely brighter than they appear, so I can only assume the jerseys will be as well.

That picture that acted as the "official uniform release" from the athletic department may be from Adidas themselves (sales mock-up), and not something that was taken with the actual jerseys that just arrived.

I'll rest assured when I see a photo of the jerseys that have actually, physically arrived.

  2. Predictions already? I'll wait and just see how UND's defense looks against an average FBS offense and if UND's offense has improved any.

Obviously, I hope UND can keep it close and, then, anyone has a shot at the end.

  3. I swear they toned down the green from the mock-up.

    Could you elaborate?

They better be kelly green and match the matte helmets. Mismatched green was the issue with the last green helmets and jerseys.

In this photo it appears to reveal a real dark green. Hopefully it's just the lighting.

  4. Would like to see a few more angles, including both sets of pants. Overall, great look. The kelly green jersey is spot on with the matte green helmet and the fit is tight, which for a football player is good.

    Real nice look!

  5. I also noticed from pictures of the Mens basketball team from Europe that they still seem to be looking like a NIke team.

... And that's because of Brian Jones' ignorance. A department-wide Adidas deal would have so many benefits, such as supplied gear and outfitted consistency, but Jones just doesn't get it. It's one of many reasons why Jones is a bad coach and will be gone after this season.

  6. Status of Defense???

Noseguard and corner appear to be the only real question marks on the defense. The defensive end, linebacker, and safety spots are improved if anything.

No Hinojosa is the big one, in my opinion. Corner has added some solid additions -- in Jahmere Irvin-Sills and Vashon Tucker -- and will have returners like Deion Harris, Chris Brown, and Chris Carter, but the noseguard spot is going to come down to how capable redshirt freshman Tank Harris and true freshman Steve Greer are. Wouldn't be surprised to see a typical defensive end play a lot of noseguard, like Carrothers, newcomer Noah Johnson, or Cieslak.

  7. playing UND will be nothing more than a cheap non conference team to fill the schedule.

    False.

Playing UND is going to make NDSU a lot of money (just look at ticket prices), and the atmosphere will be far greater than actual "cheap non-conference teams" like Weber State and Incarnate Word. Your assessments are far too exaggerated, and for that reason, no one on here takes the NDSU class of 2011 seriously. Due to that lack of credibility, I advise you simply stop positing.

  8. Unless UND joins the Missouri Valley or plays in the playoffs at the Alerus against NDSU, It will be in the 2020's before you will have any chance of seeing NDSU go up to the armpit again. The scheduling philosophy will continue to be 6 home games, 2 bye weeks and a game against either a FCS powerhouse or an FBS team. Yes I know NDSU went to Weber State last year, but that was from a back end contract written in 2005.

There is no point in going to Grand Forks when NDSU can pay UND a dollar amount less than our D2 opponents to play in Fargo exclusively.

You're not fooling anyone. NDSU signed that Weber State contract last year (2014).

    http://gobison.com/news/2014/2/18/FB_0218141501.aspx

As for UND-NDSU, NDSU has been the last one to act "childish" in that whole scheduling fiasco. If NDSU can play at Weber State, they can play in Grand Forks and prove to the state of North Dakota that they are as "invincible" as their delusional fanbase thinks they are.

  9. I think I saw somewhere he was ranked in the top 100's DB in 2013. So he has the skills maybe some rust but our secondary is quickly getting more depth with both Jahmere and Vashon added to the roster.

Adding those two corners is certainly a positive. I don't know what to expect, but it doesn't hurt to add two players with as much potential as they have. Fall camp reports will quickly fill in those playing ability details, I'm sure.

  10. UND will continue to be picked low until they prove they deserve to be picked higher. Hopefully that will come to fruition this year. Can't blame and media writer for picking Montana St high, they have been a successful team. I am personally very high on this team right now. I like how Bubba has coached, I like the players he is bringing in, and I think this season will be another good step forward. That being said, taking the right steps is not enough for a writer to hand them a high ranking and outstanding record (though I do think he low balled their record).

Ultimately, this is a season to take the next step and surprise some people. Put up some good wins on the field and UND won't be as overlooked next season.

    You're right.

Go undefeated at home, beating the likes of Idaho State and Montana State, and win a big one on the road, with opportunities at Wyoming, Fargo, and Montana, would go a long, long way towards recognition.

UND made steps in the right direction last season, but they didn't have a significant win. Get those in 2015, and respect will come.

  11. BobcatNation.com Season Preview

This article picks a winner for every game of the season that involves a Big Sky team. It has Montana St. and EWU sharing the conference title. Picks North Dakota at Montana as the Week 9 Game of the Week.

Predicts UND to finish 8th in the league, going 4-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Going 4-7 (3-5) would indicate regression and not movement in the right direction. If the defense maintains its level of the play from last season and the offense becomes a bit more productive, UND should certainly win more than 4 games in 2015. I mean, there better be improvement. Nothing wrong with expecting improvement, within reason of course.

I expect UND to go undefeated at home in the Alerus Center, considering how well they played there last season in only Bubba's first season. Nothing would please me more than to smack around Montana State; that should be a fun game, especially if they come in ranked top 10.

  12. It never ceases to amaze me what a good job Bubba and staff have done over the last two years as they've battled the losses of the players to attrition for various reason, including cutting hold-over players from the old staff who weren't up to par or were not committed to UND football. Because of this, too many (IMHO) players have been rushed forth to two-deep status and have had to have their shirts pulled instead of allowing them to get acclimated early on. No critizing this practice, as I know it needed to be done.

For what it's worth, based on a quick scan, here is a look at our core of young players (pre-junior status) currently on the roster, as of today. These are the guys who committed to UND and have stuck with it, so far,and who have had the luxury of developing slowly and arguably the right way. Some of them might have played right away, too, had it not been for injuries that kept their Red Shirts intact.

    Defense/Special Teams:

    1. Reyes, DB -So

    2. Flowers, DB - RSo -- Juco transfer

    3. O'Brien, LB - So

    4. Harmston, LB - RFr

    5. Walton, LB - RFr

    6. Schmitz, DE - So

    7. Cieselak, DE - RFr

    8. Meindel, P/K - RSo*

    Offense:

    1. Fiedler, TE - RFr

    2. Francis, TE - RFr

    3. Ruhe, TE - So

    4. Norberg, RB - So

    5. Coyne, FB - RFr

    6. Miller, OL - So

    7. Taylor, OL - RFr

    8. Cox, OL - So

    9. Stiner, OL - RFr

    10. Bell, OL - So

    11. Stockwell, OL - So

    12. Stanley, WR - RFr

    * played right away but was held out last year, initially for disciplinary reasons

If a player is the best at his position, regardless of year, he will play. The point you've made is very important in regards to depth. Good football teams have depth to the point that a couple injuries don't derail their season; that is where UND football is trying to get to.

One guy on defense you may have missed is NG Tank Harris, who redshirted last season and has a solid chance of starting in 2015.

  13. Do you think the coaching staff has a video they could throw up on the video board at the alerus when recruits visit of a time the alerus was packed? Maybe some TV Footage of the crowd going wild with the crowd noise - crank up the volume to give the recruits an idea of what it's like. I would think they could use that and say you could make this happen.

I also think they should play the hype video on the video board when the recruits visit the Alerus. The other idea I have is put clips of the recruits big plays up on the video board looping when the recruits come to visit - all about seeming themselves on the screen at the Alerus.

The Alerus now has some really nice video boards, so UND best be using them to their advantage.

  14. Heard rumors of them working on another FBS transfer on d-line. Hope it is true. Sounds like it would be a good get.

I hope it works out; need help at every position, other than maybe LB.

  15. Tank Harris is now the guy who has to step up and hold down the NG spot; needs to stay healthy and have a good fall camp. Woodsmall, Cieslak, and possibly Greer would be the others capable of playing that spot.

  16. Sooo to sum up, they need to play a complete game to compete. :)

    Can't wait for some football!

Well, I doubt Wyoming is going to come out and play a complete game themselves. Let's remember, Wyoming was not very good last year and it will be their first game as well. With that said, let's hope UND does come out and play a complete game.

  17. One man's opinion in reference to the above opinion...

In comparison to other FCS facilities I've seen the locker rooms at Memorial are OK. If you like character, which I do, they are pretty good, but in comparison to other facilities they appear underfunded. Help is on the way for this obviously but I'm hoping its sooner rather than later.

Regarding Alerus's impact on recruiting - again one person's opinion - the facility is great. The game day atmosphere is fairly sad. It even has elicited snickers from recruits, especially late in a lost season. Winning will change a lot and let's hope Bubba and his team can make the game day atmosphere incredible.

Overall from a recruits perspective - aside from the facilities - the program appears underfunded in many ways In comparison to other nearby FCS programs. And it does not help that the best game day atmosphere and trophies are just south of Grand Forks. With that said I think this program is on the right path and the momentum is real. Thanks to Bubba and staff for not letting the program's negatives slow their progress.

No question that gameday atmosphere in the Alerus has been lacking, at least during the DI days. Of course, this is largely due to the hopeless seasons where the team is never competing for playoffs. Bring in wins, and people will come. Also, doesn't help that NDSU is so successful and is so nearby; they definitely pull in a lot of bandwagon fans.

  18.

Now I'm not the biggest fan of the Alerus Center, but there are far worse facilities, and with the IPF, UND is making nice strides in facilities.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Alerus Center either, but when you compare the Alerus to the FCS schools of the Big Sky and MVFC, I'd say the Alerus is definitely a top 10 football venue out of those 23 FCS schools.

So, I guess its relative. Also, if we are looking at the Big Sky and MVFC just for local FCS argument sake, I'd say UND's HPC (indoor practice facility) is the nicest of its kind of all 23 schools. That's a huge recruiting plus. The facilities, then, with top 10 game stadium and number 1 practice facility, are coming together for UND.

Now need to focus on improvements with coaching offices and team meeting rooms. HPC Phase II would get that done.

  19. No need to be so rude. I don't think there is any question that Bubba seem to be a more active recruiter that Muss was. Vast majority of UND fans seem to like what they are seeing from a recruiting standpoint. Now we have only seen one season out of him on the sidlines, so this season should be a strong indicator of where Bubba is taking this team.

Now I'm not the biggest fan of the Alerus Center, but there are far worse facilities, and with the IPF, UND is making nice strides in facilities.

Finally, I think before some of the Bison fans get too self righteous, they need to remember there was a time where their fans didn't even think Bohl was going to get the job done. I think we have all see how that worked out. Now I'm not saying Bubba will have the same success rate as Bohl did, or the same number of National Championships. BUT I do think that before people start bashing his process, coaching and recruiting you need to wait and see what he does.

I do think that Bubba has more of an edge to him that was missing with Muss, and while Muss certainly hit big with a few recruits/transfers, I think Bubba is going to have far more success across the board; not just with a few big players.

Bubba gets it. Mussman did not.

Bubba is actually a leader, which is what the head coach should be. I don't want to speak for everyone, but most people I've spoke to certainly wouldn't characterize Mussman as that type of person. He just wasn't head coach material. Doesn't mean Mussman was a bad person or even a bad football coach, just not a head coach.

Bubba has a plan for UND football and he can relate to both student-athletes and adults (donors, alumni, and high school coaches) to the point that he will grow UND football within that plan.

  20. I would hope they could pull some good recruits after what they have done lately. UND needs to try and slowly get some high-end kids along with some diamonds in the rough that need to pan out. Then, recruiting will slowly get easier but right now they obviously have trouble vs. NDSU for reasons we all know.

I'm quite happy with what transpired this weekend. Anytime you get 8 commitments over a single weekend, you're doing something right. Another thing that plagued this program during Mussman's tenure is player attrition, and by getting local (ND, MN, WI) prospects who commit this early, UND and Bubba have put themselves in a good position for player development by adding players interested/excited in staying. The family atmosphere they've built also helps that.

  21. By the way, NDSU got a commitment other than the no other FCS offer kid, a QB out of Kansas that UNI and all of the Dakota schools offered, and that includes Bubba.

    Good for NDSU.

Since your reading comprehension skills are typical of someone associated with NDSU, let me point this out to you:

THIS THREAD IS TITLED '2016 UND RECRUITING'!

    Nothing to do with NDSU.

UND has 8 verbal commitments before August; Bubba is doing something right, and it's quite hilarious that you just can't get that into your head.
