  1. You realize Midco is in Grand Forks, Bismarck, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, West Fargo and soon to be Fargo, right?

Doesn't mean you subscribe to Midcontinent. The point is, if you have Directv or only local programming, you can't watch UND. Whereas local stations carrying the games, like WDAZ or NBC ND in the case of NDSU, allow you to watch the game no matter what provider you have: Midcontinent, Directv, or strictly local stations.

  2.

Midcontinent has great production value and quality but it just is not assessable enough. For instance, NDSU is shown statewide on NBC ND, and the majority of North Dakota does not get Midcontinent. If you have DirecTv or just local programming, you can't get the UND game. Making UND assessable statewide would be the best capability to implement and it would have the greatest impact moving forward; with that said, UND CAN'T afford to sacrifice HD quality or broadcasting features (UND hockey with Brad Berry, UND Sports Extra, etc.) in order to make it work.

  3. Would be pretty cool to see a nice, "Ralph" caliber, football stadium on campus.

Although I'm not holding my breath yet, it would be beyond cool; it would be a tremendous game-changer. UND football would be put in a position like Montana and NDSU pretty quickly if they had a top-notch on-campus stadium, along with a winning on-field product of course. The facility aspect of UND football is the only thing holding them back, especially with FCOA now in effect for next season.

Nevertheless, HPC Phase II is the most likely "next step" in terms of facility upgrades for UND football.

  4. Is there any checks & balances on the Big Sky officiating crews? Are they graded out or evaluated each game? Seems like there are many obvious missed or terrible calls across the conference each week...

I see the entire Miami-Duke officiating crew was suspended for 2 games after that debacle.

There needs to be an evaluation process in some way, shape, or form. I'm not sure what's in place - if anything at all - but I absolutely agree with this. The officiating in the Big Sky Conference is very poor and there needs to be a feedback process in order to improve it.

  5. We'll 2 weeks before the Montana state game the players were fully game planning for Montana. Somehow they were able to switch gears and think about Montana state.

We should use two weeks effectively not just spend twice as much time on the next opponent.

How did that Montana game work out? If they were focusing on Montana State in advance, it didn't work out against Montana. Your argument holds no water due to the lopsided  result of that game, although preparation is not necessarily what caused that blowout loss.

Point is simple: If UND doesn't beat UNC, the Cal Poly game has no playoff implications. Let's get 6 wins before we're thinking about 7. Day by day; Bubba will have the players thinking right.

  6. Yes. Start the week with a quick look at Poly on film. Then UNC. That way some of it will be review for the Poly game.

Absolutely not. How are you supposed to comprehensively gameplan for UNC with the Cal Poly offense in mind. Coaches can look at both for sure, but the players need to focus on their NEXT opponent, UNC.

Focus on UNC and let's get that win first.

  7. From what i keep hearing this Santiago kid is a complete stud.  That correct?

    Yes.

Both Santiago and Olivera, as a 1-2 punch, are the real deal.

UND's focus will be on them for the next few seasons. In the meantime, UND needs to continue to expand their passing game. Clive Georges is healthy for the first time since week 1, which apparently may give this passing game a shot in the arm.

  8. At least one convincing win in our last two would help our cause.  We need to win two and at least put ourselves in the discussion.  There will be lots of 7 win teams in that discussion but hopefully the FBS win stands out.  This team could lose these last two as easily as easily as we could win them.

The Portland State win could be more impressive than the Wyoming win (in actuality it certainly is, but also to the selection committee's standards). If Portland State wins their next three games, they will win the Big Sky Conference, be a top 10 FCS team, and their only loss will be to UND.....

  9. Voting for a name cause it will sell a few t shirts is about as bad a reason as voting for it because the logo will look cooler when no official logo designs have been released.

What's wrong with a ND fighting hawk? It's an OFFICIAL logo that the athletic department and university can finally be associated with. The alternatives are no better.

  10. And if Hawks or Riders wins we are all at the mercy of an already untrusted leadership to somehow produce a logo that's good enough to elevate a mediocre nickname to greatness.

Nodaks, on the other hand already has a built-in logo, the interlocked ND.

    That's too conservative for me.

Yes, that interlocking ND logo already is in place, but why not look to improve UND's marketing situation, rather than be complacent and accept what's already in place. I for one am curious to see what could be produced to further expand UND athletics branding. If done correctly, a unique hawk logo could gain support. I'd buy apparel sporting a new unique UND hawk logo. Why not?

  11. How about the ridiculous officiating going on within the Big Sky Conference right now.

It has happened numerous times to UND, but let's just focus on the game vs. MSU:

Intentional grounding and not a fumble? C'mon

And that last extra point was good, I'm sure. What a time to blow that extra point call, jeez refs....

  12. The unc game has me a little bit worried.  Being at home and having an extra week off will be nice, just hope the team doesn't over look any team! Bubba is always focused and has this this on the right path , but sometimes the players see the opponent as don't play up their standards.  Unc lost on a last sec fg to e wash 2 weeks ago.  They are an improved team over the years past and literally have nothing to lose.  They are not necessarily a good team but anything can happen, aka South Dakota.   Und is still beat up, missing several marquee players on d, just one gem at a time!!!

UND needs to execute coming out of the bye week and get it done. UNC is improved, but they still haven't played lights out on the road. UND needs a solid crowd at the Alerus Center for this game. I doubt there will be much over 7k or 8k due to deer hunting, but those that do attend need to get loud and help out the defense. UND needs to win at least one game handily this season; too many close games are a bit too draining. Execute early and often and put away UNC.

    GO UND!

  13. at what point do the douchebags at the alerus put something/anything down on the exposed concrete to protect these young men?  santiago is flying to the pylon and then goes skidding around on the concrete on his td run....are they gonna wait til someone breaks their neck especially with the speed we have with santiago, smith, and georges running around out there...

The Alerus Center needs to step up in several areas. Player safety with some custom turf sections over the concrete would be one area. Another area is [again] the pregame team entrance. Lights have to be off and they have to build it up better. It's embarrassing right now how poor the Alerus Center treats UND and the entire gameday situation. If they cared just a little bit, they would put effort into these things and get it fixed.

  14. Our great rushing needs to continue and I think will have no problem. I think there is a real possibility Santiago runs for over 200. All we need is for the few passing plays to be successful and then we should be able to play the offensive shootout. All our defense has to play is good. They don't need to shut out msu but they need to stop some drives. This game is when we will see certain guys step up and show their development. We also need to create some turnovers and it's bound to happen with our luck. If we also quit fumbling the dam ball it would help greatly. Thank god this game is at home!

Need more balance offensively and can't give up the big play on defense.

UND wins if they do that and win the turnover battle.

  15. Not a fan of all of Oregon's crazy uniform combinations, but those silver helmets they wore last night were awesome... Would love to see UND get something similar w/ a Kelly-green ND sticker on the side.

They're coming next season for UND.

  16. I have often wondered why Freund isn't the QB coach. Then hire a WR coach that actually played the position. Seems logical to me I guess.

That sounds logical to me. And perhaps hire a CB coach.

This is where coaching salary again comes into play.

  17. UND's support of football needs to improve. It is better than when Mussman was coaching, mainly through requests made by Bubba, but there still needs to be more improvements. Coaching salary and general athletic department coverage/support is lacking. I understand that UND can be successful at both football and hockey, but as of now, UND's support is still not evenly distributed between the two (not even close).

Faison and the athletic department are the largest component in this issue/dynamic. Having an $100 million hockey facility is blinding to many; however, it just can't be anymore. It's time to begin focusing more on the primary sports of U.S. collegiate athletics: football and basketball.

  18. Totally, agree with this! I don't think doing this would mean they couldn't utilize Studsrud, or find a way to work him into the game plan, but we need a competent passing game. Especially with how good our run game has been. I think our receivers are only going to get better with Dulin playing next year, and the kid from Red Wing coming in. Hopefully Luke Stanley improves too. We need someone to get these guys the ball.

Receiver is a weak spot in my opinion, also. The freshmen already committed look good at WR, but I still think another top WR prospect is necessary to add; even another RB. Bottom line, the skill positions are not set yet, including defense (defensive back).

  19. Bartels hasn't started a game at home yet this season; coaches must be hoping that will make a difference, and I think it might. Also, Montana's States defense is not anything special. If Bartels cant move the ball against Montana State at home, then he is not capable and either Mollberg or Studsrud needs to start the remaining 2 games (vs Northern Colorado, @ Cal Poly). Also, I think UND really needs to look at bringing in a top QB recruit or transfer this off-season; I have a real hard time seeing that position group as set.
