  1. QUOTE (WiSioux @ Nov 3 2008, 06:33 PM)

Miller, Jones, Marto, and Genoway were playing the points on the power play

Wow, I wonder why your power play is sitting at 10% when you have a guy who scored 18 goals last season and another player who had 34 points on the power play in 1 USHL season sitting on your bench.

Chuck, the question was regarding who was playing the points. If you're referring to Gregoire in your USHL comment he IS on the second PP unit with Trupp and Frattin. That unit had the game-winner Friday night or did you erase that from your memory bank already? I think the first unit up front has been Vandy, Dunc and Martens. Not sure why Kozek hasn't been included but I trust that Hak knows what he's doing.

  2. Seidel is an 88 and has to go to college next season, UW has less than zero room for next season. Forney wasn't even playing in that game so he wasn't there watching him. Forney plays for Green Bay.

Cedar Rapids played Green Bay that day. Forney played.

  3. I talked to Coach Eades on Sunday, he was in Cedar Rapids doing some scouting I think. I just had a few seconds but I asked him how the team was going to be this year. He just smiled and said they will be just fine and not worry at all. I realize he has to believe that as a coach. But i really believed him. He was very nice.

There was at least ten scouts there on sunday. I also Cristo play on saturday night here and he looked good but still needs to develop some.

I'd guess that Eades was watching Mike Seidel (leading scorer in the USHL) and Michael Forney.

I've only seen Kristo a few times but he's a terrific skater with nice hands. He needs to add some muscle but he'll be very good. Of all the current recruits he's the one that intrigues me the most. Kristo and Danny Mattson could be be a dynamic duo if they stick around long enough.

  4. Can I be the water boy ;)

AussieSiouxFan, I will add you to the roster. I guess if I have a professional Video Coach I can have a a professional water boy. I figured I had to include all the coaches since AZ Sioux and UNDintheNHL have done some much research on former players.

  5. When I win the lottery I'm going to buy an NHL team and fill it with ex-Sioux players. Here's my team as of today (skaters are from the NHL and AHL):

    Parise - Toews - Stafford

    Blake - Zajac - Oshie

    Bayda - R Johnson - Porter

    L Wilson - B Lundbohm - Bochenski

    Commodore - Greene

    Hale - Lee

    Chorney - Smaby

    Goehring

    Lamoureux

Healthy scratches: Kaip, M Jones and A Schneider

    Head Coach: Dave Tippett

Ass't Coaches: James Patrick and Rick Wilson

    Video Coach: Steve Peters

For comparison I put together a team of ex-Gophers ( I had to go down to the ECHL to fill out the forwards  ):

    Kessel - Okposo - Vanek

    R Potulny - Taffee - Wheeler

    Irman - W Smith - Chucko

    Howe - Guyer - Gordon

    Ballard - P Martin

    Leopold - Goligoski

    Bickel - J Taylor

    Frazee

    Briggs

    IR: Erik Johnson and Tallackson

I team of Sioux forwards and Gopher Dmen would be pretty tough. A little soft in goal, though.

  6. I think you guys should of had 4. You have a very solid team there, great passing, good puck handling. I like Lofquist's spirit for a freshman. Stoa's backhand 6 seconds in was pretty awesome. It could be ugly in January at the Ralph (especially without the students there).

By "spirit" do you mean the jersey pop or the ear cup to the UW crowd after his goal on Friday night? Three games into a collegiate career seems a bit early for showboating.

  7. Hak:

Lot of good tonite. Lot of extra effort, 2nd efforts. Guys making plays.

Good positive night. Everybody played reasonably well. Trupps line played very well. Trupp and Gregoire have had good chemistry. There was chemistry in pairs on each of the forward lines tonite.

Blood showed good hockey sense to make that pass that lead to that goal. Both young D did well, both have some things to learn.

    dagies,

Thanks for posting Hak's post game comments. You're always on top of that chore, picking up right where you left off last year. Much appreciated; it's always nice to hear from the top dog.

  8. The thing that makes Trupp's Friday night goal even better is that his family was in attendance, having flown in from Anchorage for the weekend series. What a great game for them to see.

Good luck topping that game-winner next time your family comes down for a visit, Trupper!

  9. Danny Mattson put on quite a show last night for Holy Angels as they defeated sixth ranked Hill-Murray 5-4. Mattson had a hat trick (including a beautiful game-winner) as well as two assists. Having Mattson and Kristo together in a couple of years will be fun to watch.

One of the goal scorers for Hill-Murray was Nick Widig. Rumor has it Hak and Co have interest in him; maybe more now that Budish is off the list.

  10. He's exciting to watch.

A few observations on recruits in the Twin Cities:

Mallard is right on with Gleason....he has great speed and vision. I've seen him play a few times so far this season and he seems even more aggressive with the puck than when I saw him this summer at the Select 17. For those of you who like Chay Genoway you're going to love Joe Gleason.

Danny Mattson....he's on the smallish side but the kid can really go. He's similar to Burnsville's Jake Hendrickson who visited UND this summer but decided to play for Sandy in Duluth. Both are roughly 5' 9" and 170 but absolutely phenomenal playmakers and tenacious on the puck. The only negative from the last time I saw Mattson play is that he was sometimes on cruise control on the back check. But that's nitpicking; he's going to be a tremendous talent and someone (Kristo???) will be the grand beneficiary of "Double TT's" setups. By all accounts he's a great kid from a terrific family.

I've seen Edina play a few times so I wanted to make a comment on Buddish. There seem to be varying degrees of how good he's going to be. One of the more common negatives I've heard is that he is lazy. Don't believe it; the kid plays hard and there is no lack of effort. IMO Buddish will be a beast for whomever lands him.

  11. Michael is very interested in the Sioux, he has dreamed of wearing a Sioux Jersey since he was 5. However, among the Sioux he has also visited CC, St. Cloud, and the Goophers and is going back for a 2nd visit with the Goophers. He is a junior this year.

Thanks for the info kbjerke. It's great to hear that he has the Sioux on his list. It will be interesting to see who Hak brings in for the remainder of the year; it might be a signal of how much faith he has (or doesn't have) in Eidness and Walksi being the top two next year. That might scary but I'm not sure he has much choice at this point.

Regardless of who the goaltenders are for this year and next here's hoping the Sioux land Lee for '09-'10.

  12. and what do you mean about the "grieco gone" thread. doesn't 80's rock and star player girlfriend talk and old practice goalie talk belong there? :D

Hey, I enjoy discussing 80's rock as much as the next person but the girlfriend crap brings out the worse of message board etiquette.

I really think Lee will be a star and I didn't want discussion about him to be lost in the Greico thread.

BTW, he's a junior this year.

  13. Since the "Greico Gone?" thread has gone haywire I thought I'd start a new thread on how AG's leaving will affect the chances of us getting Michael Lee in '09. With Greico now out of the equation will this improve the chances of Lee joining the Sioux?

Does anyone with Roseau connections have an idea how interested he is in UND? I believe he's made at least one unofficial visit.
