  1. Is radio working tonight SFiP?

Wisco and Mankato are 1-1 after 1. I'm surprised that the Wisco fans have not shown up. I guess 12 straght wins doesn't account for much. The students did show up however.

  2. Found it interesting that Blais said we have made Reichmouth look good at times.

MSU at UW is on DirecTV. Surprised at how empty the Wisco stadium is. Must be a late arriving crowd. MSU opened with a beautiful turn around and fire from the high slot goal.

  3. I'm guessing a clumsy start for the Sioux. They've been off for far too long. Once they start scoring it'll be hard for UMD to stop them. Depth will be a huge factor in this series and we have it.

  4. I watch replays of NHL games most nights on DirecTV and like SFIP said, I'd much rather watch the NHL games than some east coast teams I don't care about. The one thing I hate about the pro game is the neutral zone trap. It wasn't bad watching the Wild do it last year, because they didn't hold on to a player. With the size and speed of NHL players, I wish they'd widen the rink a little. Olympic just seems too big, but they could add some feet to the width and loosen up the game a bit. If I'm not mistaken the width of an NHL rink is 85 feet and width of Olympic is 100.

Also, I don't care if the NHL is checking and enforcing it or not, but goalie equipment just looks way too big.

  5. Just had to add that the weirdest thing I've witnessed at a Gopher game at Mariucci was a couple of years ago during the Final Five. Hauser decided to grab on to one of the Sioux forwards legs and pick him up. Most Gopher fans in the arena started screaming for a penalty on the Sioux forward. I'm sure our crowd has done some of the same things. All you can do is shake your head in disbelief.

  6. The one image I can't get out of my head is just about every Gopher fan rooting against UND during the 2000 title. I had the pleasure of meeting some Bucky fans (did I just state that?) and they were rooting for us all the way. They even gave me beer, but what else is new with them. I realize that we often don't root for our bigtime rivals, but I've always been about the WCHA and the Gophers consider Wisconsin their big rival. I lost a lot of respect that night and I realize this incident doesn't speak for every fan. I've just found that a lot of the Gopher fans I run into are very arrogant and do nothing but look down at other teams.

Just had to get that off my chest. I've had some bad experiences with Gopher fans. I've always tried to watch/analyze games with a referee's eyes and I do realize that there are Gopher fans that do the same. I just must meet the wrong ones.

  7. Wouldn't this take too long? Some kids would be playing football into the spring semester!

No. They could start earlier, plus these guys are doing something football related all year anyways. Christmas break is quite long at most schools, plus football teams rarely miss school. They might leave Thursday night at the earliest and most college students don't have Friday classes. If college bball teams can be gone for a month during March Madness, then football can play one more week, or lose a meaningless nonconference game from the schedule.

  8. I think our defense has been playing a lot better. Rushing teams just seem to have a hard time rushing against us. If it's wet out, then all the better. As for us rushing, I don't think we'll do as well as we did against UNA (keep in mind that UNA had a 'great' run defense), but I expect us to be able to sustain some drives.

Again if it is wet, both teams will struggle in the passing game. I look for a low scoring affair. Around ten points for each team. Haven't decided who'll win.

  9. I'm sorry to say, but I'm looking at all these abduction attempts as being a bit hard to believe. I didn't think the Fertile one seemed right from the start and this Fargo one with the older woman seems a bit suspicious. Getting away from three men who had a gun!? No bruising. I'd be curious as to what that rape test shows.

Some people see the attention that Dru is getting and think they'll get it as well. Amazing that we jump from so few kidnapping attempts to 4 in a few weeks time.

  10. I missed this thread earlier, since my board marked everything like I had already read it for some reason. I posted this on the fb thread:

The odd thing was that the interviewer did nothing but ask questions on the BCS and Div. I. You'd think he would've asked a little more on DII and promo'd the national championship better. The only stuff pertaining to DII was how the tournament is set up.

Also they showed GVSU highlights from last year and had the UND AD on. ???

I didn't care for the background for RT. It looks nice, but you could barely make out Sioux on one of the signs for Sioux Illustrated. They should've had him in front of something more UNDish that you could clearly see/read.

The show also mentioned Dru in one of its news segments.

  11. Manipulated, as in skewed?

If you manipulate the numbers for the formula, you manipulate the numbers for every team. They all get the skew evenly, which negates the effect of skewing.

However (i think this might be what you meant), if you manipulate the numbers for simply one team, then this is cheating. One way to combat this would be to make the forumla public so it could be checked by ESPN and whoever else to make sure there wasn't a watergate happening.

The problem with the computer polls is that they each take into account different things. For example, one computer might reward an overtime win, while another might punish you. So a lot of coaches don't even know what they should be accomplishing to improve their team, other than winning. But some computer polls seem to even reward losing since some schools with more losses are ahead of teams like LSU and USC in the computer polls.

I think they revamped this, but a lot of the systems used victory margin. This stat could easily be used as a skew since some teams are more likely to run up the score than others. All the computer programmer has to do if he likes a team that is known to run up the score is set his poll to reward running up the score.

IMO, the computer poll system is as flawed as the human poll system since they are both controlled by humans. Each computer poll is different and what makes one man's computer poll better than another's computer poll? How many people would get to create their own polls?

  12. Did anyone see Roger Thomas on Cold Pizza this morning? It's a sports/news show on ESPN2.

Roger was on along with the Division II selection chairman.

I didn't care for the background for RT either. You could barely make out Sioux on one of the signs for Sioux Illustrated. They should've had him in front of something more UNDish that you could clearly see/read.

The show also mentioned Dru in one of its news segments.

  13. Unless it really is a vast Gopher conspiracy, I'd guess the X just flat out guarenteed a lot more money than the Bradley Center could offer due to it's being about as central location as one can find for the WCHA.

The game three years ago between UND/SCSU would have been in front of 5000 had the game been in Madison.

It is a money issue, and the X is a great hockey building. Am I right that the Final Five use to be rotated? I know for a fact it was at the Target Center for a few years in a row right before the X opened.

  14. Just heard on the radio that the coaches MIGHT boycott voting in their own poll which is conducted by USA Today. Not sure what this would mean, but the coaches are mad that they HAVE TO vote for the BCS champion and feel that they should actually be able to vote.

  15. You're missing the point. ONLY the SEC and Big 12 can have a conference championship and they choose to at their own risk. That's why the ACC expanded. It isn't fair, but it's a choice each conference makes.

    LSU played in nonconference:

    Louisiana Monroe

    Louisiana Tech

    Western Illinios

Arizona (which USC also had to play)

    USC played in nonconference:

    Auburn

    Brigham Young

    Hawaii

    Notre Dame

    Oklahoma played:

    North Texas

    Alabama (which LSU played)

    Fresno State

    UCLA (which USC played)

USC's nonconference finished much better than LSU's did, but USC can't have a conference championship and plays in a weaker conference that they can't do anything about. I'd be willing to bet that if USC played Washington St. again for the conference championship and had won, they'd be in instead of LSU.

Conference championships do have a bearing on the national championship, because if LSU didn't get to play one, USC would be in. I've already said this, but someone from the Big 12 (Kansas State I believe), lost in the conference championship to like Texas back in 2001. NEBRASKA got to go to the national championship and wasn't even a DIVISION champ in their own conference.

  16. That's your opinion, not mine.

So what they didn't win the conference? USC didn't even play in a conference championship game and their conference is weak. The only top 25 team they played was Wash State.

USC can't play a conference championship game. There is only 10 teams in the Pac 10 and you need 12. If they could've, they would've. It's a big money maker for the conferences, but also a big price to pay if you lose.

USC is only 4 spots behind LSU strength of schedule and the only reason LSU jumped was that they played Georgia for a second time. Yes they won them both. They also beat some really poor DI schools, where USC played a rounder schedule (actually USC played 4 preseason ranked teams, which doesn't mean anything now). LSU is lucky the SEC was so strong this year.

All three teams are deserving of going, but facts are Kansas State is the B12 champion and that's how it'll read in the record book. Oklahoma is a great team that plays in a conference that wants money. They lost and not going is the price they should pay. It sounded like the BCS chairman and other folks were going to be making the change that you need to win the conference, but it wouldn't be fair since some conferences can't play a conference championship game.
