  1. I think you're on to something here. Most people don't know what it's like to really be part of a passionate fanbase. Sure, you can be a diehard fan of your local professional sports team, but what connection do you really have? You live in the same city or state, therefore you're a fan. But you still really have no real connection. With a school, you are part of that institution. While you're not part of the team, there's definitely more connection to it. When somebody says something bad about it, you take it a bit more personally.

Seems like Sioux fans foster that type of intensity and it doesn't seem to exist at most schools. Once a Sioux fan, always a Sioux fan. But with a lot of schools, it seems to me, once you leave the school, the fans couldn't care less what's going on there.

You fail to mention how many of the rabid Sioux fans in this town DID NOT attend UND, much less earn a degree. Case in point Frank Burgraff. He stated that he attended UND but did not say that he was a graduate of UND.

  2. Locomackman you did get hit in the head last weekend :silly:

are you going to be a the FF (in the lower bowl?) I'd buy you a beer (serious & dump it on yer head from my suite) :silly::lol:

Another classy post from the peanut gallery.

  3. So your feelings are based around an incident in which he snubbed you at a college keg party 20 years ago? Doh-Kay

This is the best team he's had so far, so let's see it play out.

Was not at a keg party. He is just a self-centered nasty sob, but a good coach. He was arogant before he had earned the right to be one and I just do not like people like this.

  4. I was actually wondering why lomackman didn't like Hasktol, not Gino. I always hear fans say that they don't like him, but they don't really offer any valid reasons. That's fine if you don't like the guy, but it would be nice to hear why that is.

Perhaps the unwarranted bashing will subside once Hak and the Sioux bag #8 next weekend.

Goes back twenty years when I first meet him and he was a jerk when he was in school here. He is one of those people who pretends not to know who people are even though he does. He is just not a nice person. Arrogant beyond arrogance is his mark and trade.

  5. Blais would be the only other coach but what would that really change? Personally I may not like Hak but I do respect his coaching abilities. Who is/was a better coach Hak or Gino? I will go with Hak anyday since Gino's success was more of having great assistants than his own ability. When Blais left the first time the program went down hill after that until he came back.

  6. After reading some of the posts on here it is obvious most of you are not familiar with St Paul or the restaurant scene here. After 42 years here I would like to offer some options that are cost effective, close by, and good quality. Most if not all within a mile or so of the Xcel. Do not bother eating in Minneapolis unless you have a specific reason to do so. Here are just a sampling of what St Paul has to offer.

Joseph's Grill just across river from downtown, breakfast, lunch, dinner, not fancy

Mancini's char house just west of Xcel about a mile, great steaks, not fancy

Savoy Pizza east of downtown, not if you are in a hurry though

    Yarusso's previously mentioned

Downtowner Woodfire grill just west of Xcel

    Mo' s Burgers same

Forepaugh's (upscale French just west & south of the Xcel, expensive and you will need resv and time)

St Paul Grill on Rice park, pricey, but great, resv and time

Pazzaluna, upscale Italian downtown walk to Xcel

    McGoverns Pub

    The Liffey

    Tom Reid's

Several places around Mears park on downtown east side, but area is torn up for the light rail

On Grand Ave west of downtown are:

    La Cucharacha, Mexican

Dixies on Grand, Cajun and southern

    D'amico and sons, Italian

    Lexington, upscale supper club

    Everest, Indian and Tibetan food

    Salut, plus others

    On Selby near Cathedral

    Fabulous Fern's

    Moscow on the Hill

    W A Frost

    plus others

You forgot the 128 Cafe on Laurel and Cleveland. http://www.128cafe.net/

  8. Since a lot of people are going to the games and are not really familiar with the metro and where to eat here are some suggestions.

Bar La Grassa (make reservations today for that weekend) http://www.barlagrassa.com/

    Al Vento http://www.alventorestaurant.com/

Saigon (University Ave. St. Paul) http://www.yelp.com/biz/saigon-restaurant-and-bakery-st-paul (try the bahn mi which are Vietnamese subs and pho with meatballs)

    Lucia's (tried and true) http://www.lucias.com

    http://www.photaubay.us/

    Rinata http://www.rinatarestaurant.com

    D'Amico's http://www.damicoandsons.com/

    Luci Ancora http://www.ristoranteluci.com/

Taqueria Los Ocampo http://www.losocampo.com/ (not the Red Pepper or Paradiso)

    Taqueria La Hacienda http://www.taqueriaslahacienda.com/

Pineda Tacos 311 E Lake St (real dive but great food)

Adelita's http://www.adelitasmexicanrestaurant.com/ (pork in adobo sauce yum. They also have a bakery up the street about 20 blocks that is really good)

Remember one thing about these places. They are not the Olive Garden, Red Pepper, or Paradiso. Gee I wonder what three types of food I like best?

PS If any questions PM me. Stay away from Cossetas.

  9. Are there expenses? Does someone have to pay them? Will NDAHA pay them?

Well, the answers to the above are yes, yes, and no.

So if NDAHA can fill a roster with mommy and daddy picking up the tab, that's what they'll do.

Daryl and John said it best when they said, " ... you can rely on the old man's money, you can rely on the old man's money ... "

Hence the point of my arguement.

  10. Totally agree...UND kept their composure...especially after the Nelson hit. I thought RPI was reckless and undisciplined for most of the game.

26 year old Canadians >>> Smart kids! ;)

What is with this 26 year old Canadians and smart kids comment? I doubt most of the UND players would make it into RPI based on grades.

  11. Obviously you are totally ignorant upon the subject you speak of. Try signing up for an economics course and learn something. Until then nothing you say holds any weight. Why do they ship jobs overseas? Mabey because businesses cannot afford to pay 300,000 auto union workers full pensions and uber high wages. I'm not gonna find the article but you can search for it. A New York Times article stated that auto workers in the big 3 average making $70 an hour if you include benefits and pension. Thats $20 less that Japanese auto unions make (Toyota). Unions suck businesses dry and increase cost of products for everyone else.

    http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2011/03/08/5_reasons_unions_are_bad_for_america

I can play this game all day and I guarantee you won't win. The numbers don't lie and the numbers show unions stiffle growth, protect incompetant employees, hurt the economy, only benefit a small few, are corrupt, and are more concerned with politics that benefit their own interest over the best interest of the country. They get huge pensions and sometimes up to 80% of their base pay after they retired but then bitch about not receiving social security. Sounds like they are trying to double dip to me. Unions are fading and are being less and less supported by the general public. People are starting to wake up and understand that business cannot be competitive because of the high demands of unions. Think what you want its a free country but the number do and always will back what I'm saying up. Sorry to rain on your parade.

I had like 4 more videos talking about it but the site said I couldnt post that many.

Expalin how the economic model worked so well until the shift in wages went only to the top 1%?

  12. I don't believe it was a "thesis." A rebuttal to your opinion maybe, but not a thesis.

Is it your"hypothesis" then that talent takes a secondary role to money on the teams playing in Chicago?

Yes because from talking with parents of kids who play hockey over the years this is where my hypothesis came from. A few of these people's kids have gone on to play D1 hockey and they all have considered the showcase a joke based on the selection process.

  13. You must have read the Heraldo today and saw Schlossman's piece about Denver's "hot goalie" and how unbeatable he is and suggested we might lose because of that. Schlossman also went back six years to the 2005 NCAA title game to back up his "point". He is already writing the script for his Monday column if we don't win today. Never mind that the WCHA goaltending champion wears kelly green and white. Just when I start to think I should change my sig on here, I get further evidence that it's needed.

WMU's goalie stopped 35 out of 38 shots, which proves that every team left has solid goaltending. I don't care if Patrick Roy is in net for Denver, I say if we keep out of the box and roll four lines for 60 minutes, we will win with our superior depth and experienced leadership. I don't think Denver will have a chance to play their tough, physical puck possession game like they did for most of regulation time last Saturday.

Prediction: UND 5, Denver 2 (with a late ENG by Hobey Frattin!).

    LET's GO SIOUX!!!

Actually I have thought this all week.
