  1. I say again, let's take a serious look at reverting to the name used in the early 50's, when we were simply called the "NODAKS"

    NCAA Standards

There doesn't seem to a be a specific place to post this, so I arbitrarily chose the football topic. It links to an audio of an NPR interview with Miles Brand, President of the NCAA, discussing changes to be made in how the NCAA measures academic performance of student athletes and what the consequences may be for those schools who fail to meet them Very much worthwhile to listen to on RealAudio. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4521418
  3. Could someone please post Dean's address in International Falls? I'm sure many of us would like to send condolences to him and his family.
  4. See the following link for informaton on national currency. Some bills are very valuable collector's items, depending on where issued and the number issued: http://www.coinsite.com/content/faq/national.asp
  5. The word is that pre-season games will be played in the "Betty" and most if not all of the conference games will be in the REA which, in my view, is way too large for the smaller crowds at BB games. Since it would likely be impossible to practice in the REA because of conflicts with the hockey team, the "Betty" is supposed be used for that also. The advantage of practicing on the court that will be played on is lost. Seems kind of silly to provide all that seating for a practice facility.
  6. I'd feel a lot more like donating some money for this effort if most of the BB games were scheduled for the new "Betty", which seems to be designed to allow the fans a more intimate atmosphere than the "Ralph" Since there aren't going to be any more Bison/Sioux games, I think the seating capacity in the "Betty" would be more than adequate. I have yet to talk with any Sioux BB fan that likes the "Ralph" as BB venue and I think we need to let the folks at UND know that. If enough of us do so, perhaps some minds can be changed, but I'm not very confident of that. Roger Thomas' email address is roger.thomas@mail.UND.nodak.edu if any of you think the way I do.
  7. I've been a member of the Coaches Club since 1988 and really miss the relaxed conversations, coffee and sometimes snacks that we used to have in the loft at Old Engelstad, pre-game and between periods. I've never attended the so-called Fighting Sioux Club bar at the Ralph, not because I'm averse to having a brew now and then, but because I prefer to do that elsewhere in a venue where I can sit down at a table, relax and chat with friends about the game. If such a facility was made available for FSC members at the Ralph, I would surely make use of it, and I'm reasonably sure many others would also.
  8. One of the reasons there are a lot of non-students attempting to enter that door is because once the handicapped spots on the north side are full, all that traffic is directed to the south side. where they are told to take any spot still available. It likely doesn't make much sense to do that, and then make those folks walk all the way around to the front door. What it says is that there aren't enought handicapped spots on both sides of the arena to handle that requirement.
  9. The Flickertail Follies? Not only remember them, but participated in two of them. A lot of fun-too bad they were discontinued!
  10. Back in the late 40's and early 50's the athletic department also issued pink socks to their athletes, apparently thinking that no one would wear them for other than athletic purposes. WRONG!! Most folks wore them for everything but, and those were the days when pants legs seemed a bit shorter than today.
  11. Here is an easy solution to the Nickel Trophy controversy!! Cast a new one and let each school have one, with a permanently attached bronze plate listing the overall W/L records during the period of it's award.
