  1. I would bet that it played a factor, albeit probably a small one in the grand scope of things. It sure did not make SCSU any friends, as I see it. Gino may go to bat for them, but I doubt he'll be able to really do anything there, unless the league wants to go to 10 or 12 teams. It makes more sense for SCSU and the "rejects" (I hate saying that because I like Mankato, too - not as much as the Sioux, obviously- and it's one of them) of the WCHA and CCHA to join forces, get rid of McClod, circle the wagons and really try to make whatever league it is competitive. Get people like Gino to help pump/lobby alumni and state officials for money to upgrade facilities so that some semblance of parity with the SuperLeague can be attempted. This is where Gino can help SCSU. Even he can't make gold out of straw. St. Cloud has a rabid fan base, which is an excellent start, and it has many alums who are in or who have been in the NHL. It has an excellent coaching staff, too. However, it's facilities, while nice, are sub par and aging. Time to make major improvements to NHC so as to increase seating capacity. Just think of poor Mankato. Jutting is a good coach but you should look at the practice facility. It's an ok building but it is NO D-1 practice facility. Plus, it's southern MN. While there are a lot of very good fans, it is not like St. Cloud or Duluth; maybe it will be in time. Plus, the Verizon Center is a lot like the NHC. That place loses money year in and year out and I would highly doubt that the City is going to be amenable to investing more money into it. The competitive potential for those schools will be set back a ton because of this, unfortunately. Hopefully, more David Backes, Matt Cullen, Mark Parrish, Brian Holzinger, Ryan Carter types who know they will get a TON more playing time at those schools will consider attending those schools.

Bottom Line: UND needed to do it. No one likes the fact that it must happen. It is being seen as a necessary "forced" decision because of the BTHC so blame the BTHC schools.

Everything was fine as it was but the arrogance of the B10 schools started the present domino effect. Silver lining: UAH finally gets into a conference and saves its program and alumni of struggling programs step up to assist their schools.

its not for lack of effort.NHC renovation

  2. I think the biggest problem with scsu being in the new conf is even though they have had steadily rising revenues from attendance in the current nhc, they were only able to secure their arena improvement/ addition with significant state help.

From a bankrupt state, that puts them in a bad place to keep up with well funded programs regardless of great strides they have made.

  3. I was listening to my iPod at work today, (yes, I love my job) and Miseria Cantare came on and I decide to brighten everyone's day a little by posting that the 2011-2012 men's hockey season starts in 120 days thus kicking off the skate for 8!!! Let the countdown begin. Now, please take down that score on the homepage..... LET'S GO SIOUX!!!

    SECOND!

  4. But should wrong make it illegal?

Yes. I get them confused but libel or slander are the terms right?(Not a Legal professional)

The reason this is important is that it keeps people from passing local gossip as fact. Whether it is someone making the accusation of rape as cited earlier or stating part of a story they heard from a source at Southgate that was reliable in an incident in Jan 2011.

If you cannot guarantee something you claim as fact, on here, where it can be confirmed, or in life, where it is hearsay, you should not state it as anything other than opinion.

  5. The news on Jason Gregoire has been decidedly quiet. I think he is the difference between a very good top 10 in the nation team and a WCHA favorite, top 3 team. He certainly has the talent to go pro, but if he comes back he would be perhaps our most reliable goal scorer. As good as Matt Frattin was down the stretch, Jason might have been better. With Gregoire the Sioux will be likely to have 3 potent scoring lines. Gregoire and Knight could be paired with an incoming freshman with the ability to take a good feed and snipe the corner, much like Hextall.

I could see these all as outstanding lines:

Gregoire - Knight - ? (NHL Caliber Talent)

Miller - Grimaldi - Kristo (fastest line in hockey)

Rodwell - Nelson - St Clair(smaller guy with grit like Rodwell, who exploded during the playoffs. V. Mich. he was an animal)

Best Defense and Goaltending in the Nation.

So Jason, the Sioux Nation wants you back...

Looks good to me. Knight will make whoever that third finisher is look good.

  6. As much as i dislike some of the Old Tyme regiem in the WCHA (Commisioner and refferies) and would like to see a little house cleaning, I think that leaving the WCHA would be harmful to UND and to College Hockey as a whole. The smaller programs rely on games against UND, UM, DU and the like to bring in crowds for their games and I don't have any numbers but I would bet that a lot of these hockey programs at SCSU, Mankato, UMD are paying a lot of the bills for their athletic departments. Playing those teams doesn't hurt us, it is a good way to have the ups and downs of a college schedule and it allows us to be in better health come March.

  7. I think alot of us Gopher fans went in stealth mode because we did not want to get grief about how things are going with the program, at least that's why I didn't wear any.

Did run into Goon between periods of the 2nd game though, always fun to shoot the breeze with him for a while. :)

I would agree. All the gopher fans i saw were wearing a sweatshirt or something understated.

  8. No green or blacks from here on in until, maybe, at the National Championship game.

We will need to get the attitude in the whites. Judging from Friday and Saturday night, and not touching The Cup, the boys will be just fine in da white jerseys.

Thanks! That is what I thought.

  9. GREAT NEWS!!! I never have to watch Jacob C-Piss play/act like he plays hockey again!!

AHH What a nice gift from UAA. Flowers in the locker room may be in order.

As for the rest of the team, that is too bad. Lots of talent and expectations. Best of luck in their next adventures.

  10. What is SCSU beats the bulldogs? They are way lower so beating them in the FF won't mean as much correct? So if SCSU wins does that kill the Gophers chances?

  11. I dont listen to the show so excuse my ignorance but who is Mouse?

Johnnie the mouse Mickelson Capt. of the 83 Wayzata club hockey team. He is a friend of PA and a MN Hockey rube of all levels.

  12. Back on track:

1st Team: Mike Connolly, Matt Frattin, Jason Zucker, Gardiner, Blood, Patterson

2nd Team: Jack Connolly, Drew Shore, Jaden Schwartz, Schultz, Donovan, Dell

3rd Team: Justin Fontaine, Jason Gregoire, Craig Smith, Justin Faulk, Olimb, Faulkner

    POTY: Fratts

    Coach: Blais

  13. I like PA but he has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to college hockey. He makes some pretty bold statements in regards to the gophers. Like saying Patterson is on fire and probably the best goalie in the WCHA.

See post above about taking notes from Mouse and those maroon colored eyes. Frattin is still the dirtiest player in hockey from his point of view..

  14. Don't get me wrong, I like PA, I'm just saying he doesn't know much about college hockey and he never has. Back in the 'PA and Dubay' days Puffy was the one who lived for Gopher hockey and knew what he was talking about, Paul just played along. Since Puffy's demise and departure from KFAN I don't think he's been around it enough to have a serious opinion of his own.

Speaking of which, has anybody heard anything about Dubay lately? It's been months since I've seen anything, is he in rehab or jail or what?

I totally agree with your take on PA and Dubay days. The last i heard was late last summer he had gone back to jail for 6 probation violations. (4 failed tests and 2 skipped). I think that was only for 90 days.

That really is a sad deal. I liked listening to him and i just wonder how he would be handling seasons like these last two for the gophers. It would have been good radio.

  15. Schlossman and Hajdu make good points via Twitter: whether or not you agree with a certain voter's ballot (in this case Ciskie), you have to give them props for posting it for all to read (and rip). Having said that, Ciskie seems to have his UMD googles Doggles on when making his selections. To each their own, gotta love democracy.

    FIxed your post :silly:

    Doggles

  16. Basically, the guy on KFAN who is very knowledgable about all sports except college hockey. :)

He does admit he is a homer and not knowledgeable. and that he gets some of his stuff from Mouse Mickleson. He is honest about what he is.

I also like how he is getting other teams fans on the line with Cardinal each week. Meanie girl and DHG. It's fun.

  17. We don't need objectivity, this is a Fighting Sioux hockey board... I am not sure what you want? If you want to talk about the Goofs go to Gopher Puck Live.

Looks like C-Piss is just as delusional as you are. C-Piss still thinks the Golden Rodents are going to the NCAA tourney.

Reminds me of Sean Avery, sometimes even his teammates have to hate having him on the team.

And for a senior who most likely won't have a long hockey career after college what a great opportunity to suit up and look like someone an employer would like to hire. Can''t even tie his shoes.

What a lack of respect for the opportunity presented and the team he is representing. I would be pi**ed if I were tDon. That is not the way I want my team represented.

  18. I think Patterson will be First team Goalie. Wins and GAA are not tops but the fact that he carried the team all year long will get him some votes. It is tough going <2.00 GAA with 21 guys on your shoulders. Without a doubt he is the only reason their season went as well as it did. That includes this recent "hot" streak.

  19. Just the other weekend there was a middleaged gentleman walking around the Ralph wearing a headdress and bangin on a drum. He was up in section 310/311 and was banging on his stupid drum throughout the game. I was extremely surprised that the Ralph let him in the door with the headdress.

310 is the students section and 311 is the "visitors" section by the Ecolab Bar.

    Ticketmaster Map

I would bet it was most likely someone trying to stir things up.
