If that's the case, that would mean Bess thinks he'll stay, which I think he will, too. But, no chance for Matthews... next year he'll be in the NHL. Guy can only dream. Schmaltz centering Boeser and Matthews. Jost on the second line :)

That would be a little bit of fun.

  2. Any good spots in Fargo that might have the game on tonight?

Spitfire in WF is always fun and BWW North always has the games on.  Some Alums manage there.

EDIT PS: you will get biSon fans cheering for UMD when "they bat a netter" or what ever they think it is called when teams score.

  3. I guess I didn't see it as bad as some did. Granted, it's a different era now. I have been told by some that Red is kind of a grumpy guy. Maybe that's just his demeanor.

Totally agree.  I think Red is just being straighter than many in these boys lives.  No one is telling them, many people are lying to them.  There was that article in the Star Tribune (I think) a few months back about how many "guys in the know" are out there, telling these parents they need their kid in such and such league or on this team.  That leads these parents to be a poor help sometimes as well.

If you REALLY have the goods, the money will be there

If one kid ever said, I need to get the cash now, as I can get hurt tomorrow, I totally get that. But that is one of the tactics the Advisors are using to get paid in the interim.

If Zane said, "My grandma wanted me to get my degree," Boston would still make an offer after his last game next year.  Kristo/Knight/Schmaltz boys, same thing.

Guys like Hextall/Gregoire, they need to strike while the iron is hot and get the money.

That is where I consider the "offers" we all fear so much.  Guys like Finley/Blood/etc. recently, they/we all knew AHL buses were all they were going to see and their support group was lying to them to make them +consider/us worry+ leave early.

Also, Please do not use Parise, or Towes as counter points, they are Exceptions.  Oshie/Stafford you can sway me either way on their last year, but they still would have been fine if they had finished at UND. Proof is there in the results.

  4. I remember hearing that by signing right before the lockout he was able to secure a larger signing bonus than he would've been eligible for after the lockout.  Not sure if there was truth to it or not though.

Correct.  He got in on the old CBA and only the contract he has now makes that money not worth it.  ($99mm)

  5. With Simonson reportedly being out I think I'd go with

    Poolman-Caggiula-Parks

    Chyzk-Schmaltz-Johnson

    Olson-Pattyn-St.Clair

    OD-Gaarder-Poganski

    I like these lines.

Someone else posted putting Pattyn on the same line as NS and i dont like that.  Pattyn's best ASSet should be sitting out in front of the net with guys firing tip pucks for him.  He wouldn't be as well suited to get into the space that NS can create.

  6. With the new Legacy HS opening, the existing two Bismarck publics will lose 1/3 of their students. Even adding one girls team would seem difficult. A new boys team will sap the Bismarck teams strength too.

Was Bismarck Open enrollment until recently? Last couple years?

Also, one of the other threads was talking about how little ice there is in town, 2 more high school teams( b/g) would push that hard.

  7. It's about developing the game in the state. Only 11 teams. Get a 12th team and you could possibly have an east and west region tourney. It's about one team dominating or not. Grow the sport.

Walsh Hall said they havent been overly dominant.

I am all for encouraging HS athletics.  I see that point.  How do they choose who goes to state with no regional?

  8. Dear NDHSAA,

Waaaah! Bismarck doesn't have more than one girls hockey team? That's not fair! This needs to change.

    Sincerely,

    Grand Forks Girls Hockey

Let me preface: I don't have kids or any affiliation with HS/youth Hockey

I read this before your next post and immediately said that person is from Bismarck.  :)

I only asked the question because it seemed rediculous that with how popular hockey is in Bismarck, there is only one team with 5 high schools.
