  1. With the first half of the hockey season over North Dakota has managed to hold on to their No. 3 ranked position, despite having a low 1.98 goals against average.
    ???

How would having a low 1.98 gaa make it hard to hold on to a No. 3 ranking?

Does Anais Medina even know what hockey is.

Sophomore G Brad Eidsness holds a .919 save percentage and ranks fourth all-time at UND in career goals.
    ???

Brad must be a great two way player, 4th all time in goals and a great save percentage!

  2. FIRST OF ALL, THIS IS NOT A JPL BASHING, JUST A PERSONAL OBSERVATION.

You can throw stats my way all you want, but me being more of an on ice evaluator and a big JPL fan do not believe that he was as good as statistically advertised. I think alot of his success as a netminder were due to solid defensive performances in front of him (of course what goalie doesn't thrive from solid defense?). It is very evident when the defense does not play well that JPL just lacks that little bit extra where he can win a game by himself. They have a saying that you can ride a hot goalie through a playoff run, but in our case I don't think JPL could have done that for us.

Did you watch the Regional games. :) Saving 79 of 81 shots doesn't sound like there was much of a defensive effort in front of him. Anyone that watched the game against Wisconsin will tell you he was the reason the Sioux went to the FF.

  3. Good to see two former fan favorites get to battle for the cup. Matt looks to have made the right decision forgoing his senior year and getting a chance to win a title his first year in the league. Mike is getting his second shot at the cup in as many years (not counting last years lockout). Good luck to both former Sioux, hope it's an entertaining series.

  4. Besides Flickertails is awful and it's what other schools call us when they're poking fun at us and we should never be the Rough Riders because that pompous jackass Phil Jackson suggested it. I think it would be great if next year when he shows up at a basketball game to be honored we boo his ass right off the floor and remind him that people remember when you turn your back on where you came from.

You'll never get the chance. The jerkoff turned his back on UND and his past a long time ago and doubt you'll ever see him back any time soon.

  5. i wouldn't call it a team wihtout prospects, i would call it a team without draft picks...just to be clear...the goren deal is a tricky one though..you can look at it 2 ways

I guess it depends on how you define prospects. If prospects are just NHL draft picks, the 97 team might be considered the last championship team without prospects. However if you define prospects as anyone the NHL is looking at, I would say you have to go back to the years before Pro hockey. If players weren't prospects at the beginning of the season they certainly would be after a championship run.

  6. RETRO NIKE GREEN WITH SIOUX SPELLED DIAGONALLY DOWN THE JERSEY. WORN IN THE HOF GAME VS DULUTH WHEN PRPICH BEAT THE HELL OUT OF PELUSO. sizes, L, XL OR XXL

    action_nd_fight.gif

    THX FOR ANY HELP!!

I know the guy that has the game-worn jersey in this picture, but I have no idea if he is willing to part with it.

  7. So is the 97 championship team considered a team without prospects? Or does Lee Goren being on the team althouth never dressing for a game count? He did still practice with the team, just like Roche his first year with the Sioux.

Is it a team without any prospects with an astrik. :glare:

  8. Wisconsin will never three-peat as national champions. They've lost Robbie "Dive" Earl to the pros, and Adam Burish, Tom Gilbert both graduated. Elliott is a possible flight-risk to Ottawa, so they could be in a world of hurt in a couple areas. Especially if Elliott does sign, then Wisconsin will be a middle of the pack team next year.

Even if Elliott sticks around for next year and they pull off the improbable. That would be one year short of the three-peat and they lose Elliott to graduation. End of three-peat chances.

  9. lee goren was a 3rd round draft pick by the bruins..that is the only one i believe so good guess!

He didn't play that season. If I remember correctly he had to sit out that year because he played two games in the WHL in 95-96.

  10. I really have trouble getting into pro sports anymore - I try every year with the NHL & Baseball - Never have liked basketball since the Celtics or Lakers of old - even Jordan could not hold my interest - At least until playoffs

Has a Team ever won the NCAA without a pro prospect ? ? ?

I don't recall any draft picks being on the 97 championship team.

  11. (I could, however, use your own reasoning against you and say that because Wisconsin was hosting the Frozen Four in Milwaukee, no team other than the Badgers could possibly have won it.)

If you would have just told us this at the beginning of the season the NCAA could have just given the Badgers the championship back in October. What a waste of seven months of hockey.

  12. I'd assume you'd be correct also as Chay Genoway, Jake Marto, Michael Forney, and Chris VandeVelde signed letters in the early period in November.

The only surprise that I'd expect (and is that really a surprise) would maybe be a goaltender.

The Sioux only lost 2 seniors and will most likely be getting back Bina. So far that is only a net loss of one player. With seven signed players coming in that's 6 extra guys  How many of these guys will be waiting a year to join the team and who & how many early defections will the Sioux have.

  13. Does anyone else think it's weird how often you all play BC in the tourney?

    '99 BC

    '00 UND

    '01 BC

    '05 UND

    '06 BC

I guess it was simply their turn.

I saw this pattern forming last year and wasn't to happy to see them come out of their regional. I like our tournment record against BU much better.

  14. In case anyone else was wondering, think I found my answer at nhl.com.

How much can unsigned players from the 2003 and 2004 Entry Drafts contract for?

Clubs may sign 2004 draftees to a maximum salary of $984,200 and 2003 draftees to a maximum salary of $942,400. These salaries are based on a 24% rollback to the maximum salary under the previous CBA for the players' respective draft years. Additionally, draftees from prior years may negotiate for a signing bonus not to exceed 30% of his maximum annual compensation. Performance bonuses may be negotiated as per new CBA rules.

This tells me that all the '03 and '04 picks have to give up a LOT to return to school. The '05 and later picks will likely get the same money later and have the same basic choice as underclassmen have had traditionally.

That separates Zajac, Stafford, Smaby, Goligoski, Chucko and Wheeler from the rest. I would be surprised if any of them return, and if they do it won't be their choice.

The choice facing the rest of the '05 and future '06 picks is far less clear. Like Jack Johnson, many of them may decide they are developing nicely in college and since their money won't be less if they wait another year they will return.

One question. From the NHL team's standpoint, why would they want to sign any of these players this year if they could save all that bonus money by signing them next season? The players may want to sign to get the bigger bonus but if the team is cheap and wants to save money wouldn't it make sense to sign them after next season. ;)

  15. I probably will too just to complete the misery of the end of this season, but if it's nice out maybe I can miss the first two and a half periods.

Maybe you would rather watch the Saturday nite movie on Lifetime, "Layover" starring David Hasselhoff. ;)

  16. My first thought was Zajac, no question. But then I realized Schneider is already afraid of him so he'll get extra attention. I'm gonna have to go with Duncan.
He's afraid of more then just Zajac. I like this response from the ESPN chat, he's asked which one forward scares him the most and he names three:

Jeff-Minneapolis: Cory, which forward on ND scares you the most?

Cory Schneider: Zajac is up there, and I've played with Stafford and Oshie in the US program and all three could hurt us if we don't pay attention.

As far as first goal, I say Finley or Jones will get their first collegiate goal to start things off Thursday. :D

  17. Nice to see i can piss everyone off with one remark. While Walski may have made however many saves in that game, besides irmen and potulny, when was the last time any talent came out of ND? I'm not referring to Walski with that remark, but rather the team he was playing against and their goal scoring talent. He played a hell of a game, but I dont think he can be the guy to back up Lammy, and take over and carry the Sioux if something happened to Lammy. Maybe I am wrong.

This post makes me laugh. Walski can't be a good backup for the Sioux because he's from North Dakota. I find this rather ironic considering Lamoureux will be the #1 goalie for the Sioux if Jordan leaves early. :D

Your remark doesn't piss me off, but rather leads me to believe you're a little naive about the talent coming out of the area. :D

  18. Does DU get to play games against "sub-par" competition, or just Minnesota? :)

That said, if I got to vote for the Hobey my vote would go to Carle or Elliott. It's not that I think Potulny wouldn't be deserving, but I think both Carle and Elliott had a more outstanding year.

Just Minnesota. Since Minnesota is the best isn't everyone else "sub-par" by comparison. ;)

And one "sub-par" team playing another "sub-par" team makes for good competition.

  19. But when all of the tickets are sold there's no advantage at the gate to have the home team play early or late.

It seems to me that they should be concerned about ratings. North Dakota isn't that big of a deal, but then Maine isnt' that much of a bigger draw. On the other hand I would think that BC would draw many more viewers than the BADgers.

I don't know, to me it is kinda like the Minnesota rule for the final 5. The games are in Milwaukee and the BADgers are in it.

Or maybe Thursday is a school night and Doug Flutie can't stay up past 8PM. ;)

  20. If I was a sioux fan I would be praying to my God that Irmen and Potulny did not come back next year. With all that talent coming back with the talent they already have, and now even more motivation. I think Irmens jersey pop is still in the same place it was last time, on the ice, when the Gophers are beating the Sioux. Great upset for Holy Cross, the Sioux really dodged a bullet on that one.

The Sioux dodged a bullet? Are you kidding? ;)

It looks to me that the only ones dodging any thing are the Gophers dodging the Sioux. First they lose to St Cloud so not to face the Sioux in the Final Five and then drop one to Holy Cross so as not to risk facing the Sioux in the final game of the west regional.

The Sioux didn't need to dodge any bullet. It looks like Goldy took that bullet square between the eyes. ;)
