  1. Is the WJT gonna be on tv? Is there like one specific channel doing it... or am I going to be lucky in Wisconsin if I can see it at all. I sure I can watch the USA/Canada game... it'll be fun to watch Toews go against his fellow Sioux teammates

I know the USA/Canada game will be on FSN and there are rumors that ESPN2 will carry some USA games.

  2. I work in the Memorial Union on campus... I was working this morning and I noticed Eades giving someone a tour. I figured it must be a hockey recruit... on the back of his jacket was a number 9... but I didn't catch the name on the front. Doing some research on our recruits and the number and picture of Evan Trupp matches. He's definatly here visiting this weekend.

I'm not sure how BCHL teams are with recruiting, but Penticton plays home games tonight and tomorrow night (12/9 and 12/10). ;)

  3. Trying to figure out if I can watch this game at the bar... I think I heard it was on ESPNU? or is it CSTV? Sorry if this is listed somewhere. Thanks for the help.

It is on the Fox Sports North (Wisconsin) station. You should be able to find it at a bar.

  4. I thought Statsny was drafted in this year's draft because last year's draft was cancelled.

If you want a true overaged draft pick, look down the road at CC to Brian Salcido.

There was no cancelled draft. Ovechkin was #1 in the 2004 draft and Sydney Crosby was #1 in a delayed 2005 draft.

  5. Jim O'Brien

The most intriguing prospect on the UW radar screen for next season is Jim O'Brien, a highly regarded winger with the NTDP, but he said last week he will not make a decision until after he has made all his official recruiting visits.

O'Brien, from Maplewood, Minn., said he "had a great amount of interest in Wisconsin" after making an unofficial campus visit here last December. He identified Colorado College, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota and UW as the schools he intended to visit

"I'll know the right school when I see it," O'Brien said.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 184 pounds, O'Brien is the youngest player on the NTDP under-18 team (he turns 17 in January).

The International Scouting Service ranked O'Brien the top 1989-born player in the U.S. last year.

  6. If the coaching staff is uncertain about possible departures, it does create recruiting dilemmas. One possibility is to recruit a player(s) for 2007 who could be brought in next year if needed. For example, TJ Oshie was originally recruited for 2006 with the idea that he would play in the USHL this year. Brady Murray's departure opened up a spot/scholarship and Oshie's development made the year in the USHL seem unnecessary, so he came in this fall.

That could be what they are looking for with Michael Forney. This is from "Quick Facts" from the Minnesota Hockey Journal.

Quick Facts has learned that Michael Forney of Thief River Falls has received a scholarship offer from the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers to play next season, 2006.  Forney had 27 goals and 30 assists last season for Thief River Falls.

Forney is also being pursued by the University of North Dakota who want him to spend a year in the USHL playing for Sioux Falls prior to joining the team in 2007.

  7. A hand injury they say.  Does this mean they have started punching the walls earlier this season.  :D  Old Lucy must be messing with their fragile Gopher psyche again.

He was blocking a shot according to the Forum.

The article also mentions Spirko's injury.

  8. It is kind of spotty. You will have some weekends with just the gophers on and other weekends, they will have a 3-4 games per night. Like fargosioux said, you will see most UW games, quite a few DU games and the occasional Michigan/MSU/Bowling Green...game.
