  1. Clearly I'm getting some of the obnoxious readers on this thread. I'm asking if any has heard anything on these recruits, I'm wondering if they are as good as they have been hyped up to be.

Clearly, I'm a big time Sioux fan, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in college hockey as a whole. Do you really think there weren't any gopher fans that were curious about Oshie and Toews when they were recruited to UND?

  2. Really? A goph recruit thread?

What time do gophs play today??! Can't find it on my direct TV guide

But seriously couldn't care less about any player ever to play for minny. They won't even be in unds conference anyhow like you say. They have that powerhouse big10 to worry about next year

They'll still be a powerful team in the ranking, and we can always play them in the tourney. Besides UND may be my team, but I like college hockey as a whole. I may not like Haula as a Gopher but he is still a solid player. If he can be effective in a Wild jersey, I'll definitely be cheering for him.

Good recruits to any NCAA team over a Major Junior team is good for college hockey.

  3. Well, we won't be seeing any of these guys in the regular season, but obviously the NCAA enjoys putting the Gopher and the Sioux in the same region in the tourney, whenever possible. So we still may see some of these guys.

From what I have heard, the U is pulling in possibly its most potent recruiting class ever, which is certainly saying something for a team with their history.

Has anyone heard much about these guys? This is what I have gathered so far:

Cammarata might be one of their best recruits since Vanek.

Kloos sounds like he could rack up a TON of points.

    Geurtler sounds comparable to Rau

    Fasching sounds comparable to Coyle

Brodzinski lead USHL D in points as a first year USHL player

Sounds like a very deep class, at least on paper. Anyone hear anything else about these guys?

  4. in my wildest dreams I just can see yale beating minnesota. I think they can keep it close and maybe lose 4-3 or something like that but they won't beat minnesota.

I didn't think there was any way that Yale would beat UND a few years back either, but all it takes is a poor showing by one team, or a hot goalie to change everything. Anything is possible in this tourney, which is why the Sioux better be ready for Niagara. Niagara would love to pull the huge upset; as would Yale.

  5. This is what I'm banking on....and a bunch of early Yale goals.

I'm glad we're playing Niagara over Yale. Granted, anyone can win come tourney time, but Yale has proven that they can compete and beat some good talent (DU, CC, BC-tie). Niagara may be talented but they are unproven. Hope the boys are ready, and I am very interested to see the Goofer Yale game Friday. Depending which MN team shows up they could easily roll or get rolled. Very unpredictable.

  6. Goaltending will make or break our post-season run here....Plus, I'm with a few who think O'D could be getting more comfortable up with the #1 unit and I think its time he start showing us his offensive potential!

I think that is what they are counting on. They need another player to be able to step up and get on the scoresheet for the tournament. Odonnel just might be the guy. That being said, we need contributions from every line. Anyone could be the person to step up and make the difference.

  7. let's not worry about that for a few more weeks. ;)

Not worried ... just curious. We have some strong players that should be returning, but no one to the caliber of Oshie, Toews, Nelson that I can see really being an early departure threat. Sure wish we still had Nelson about now, Dell too!

  8. Okay, I misunderstood your point. Here's what I'll concede: it's great that Gopher fans have some creative cheers that are not vulgar --though I'm not sure how much creative thought went into "Sioux's a girl's name" or the sign about Robbie Bina that's better left ambiguous here. Doesn't cancel out the use by Gopher fans of cheers that ARE vulgar. And, yes, I have witnessed lo these many years Sioux fan conduct that made me cringe. I wouldn't be one to argue that our fan base is purest of the pure.

Agree on all counts ... I am as guilty as the rest too. Being in the student section with a beer or two or six in your, I was probably not the best myself, a few years back. I just would like to see them limit the vulgarity. I understand fans getting heated and probably even a small degree of swearing being used, but some people just take it too far now. Maybe being a parent has changed my way of thinking, but it kind of sad when you see a little kid at the game and half the arena is chanting the f word.

  9. I also recall a "F**k the Sioux" chant at Mariucci this year

Again not saying that they don't have any vulgar cheers, I'm just saying they have some that aren't vulgar. I just think its funny how self righteous some people are on this blog, when our fans can be just as vulgar as the rest; sometimes more.

That being said, regardless of the team, sport, location, etc; you're going to get good and bad fans everywhere you go.

  10. Gopher student section without a vulgar cheer? I don't think so. One of their favorites was certainly audible at the Final 5 last weekend. When an opposing player is sent to the box, their chant ends with "you worthless piece of !@#$." All in good fun, I suppose.

I didn't say they don't have any not vulgar cheers, I said they have some creative ones that aren't vulgar.

  11. We all agree!

I think there is a balance, you want a good person to win the hobey, but it should be about on ice skills. Should Frattin have won the hobey the year he was nominated? Absolutely! Had he had the same type of numbers, with multiple arrests that year? Probably not.

I think we have to remember that these are college kids and they are not going to be perfect, but at the same time being a college kid and a hockey player does not give them free reign to do whatever they please with no consequences.

Corban has good numbers and an excellent show of personality and sportsmanship

Danny has a good show of sportsmanship and personality with excellent number, and a few small off ice problems that he dealt with.

Either should be a strong candidate for winning this award; and neither has done anything that should be considered troubling enough to take them out of the running. At this point if they are beat out, it should be based on their on ice performance.

  12. Whats disgraceful is sitting in front of gopher fans who use racial/sexual extremely rude language for two whole hockey games (around children no less).

    Thats the disgrace.

Lets not kid ourselves like Sioux fans are all saints either. I've been in the Ralph for the F the Gophers chant, heck I could hear it crystal clear on TV too. Along with several other bad ones. Every team have some of "those" fans, we saw it in Duluth a year or so ago with some tasteless Native American innuendos. I've heard pretty vulgar stuff at Wild games too, which is pretty sad because these events are becoming less and less family friendly.

I'm all for having fun, cheering loud, and getting crazy at games, but too many people don't know where to draw the line. I hate to admit it, but the Gopher student section is one of the few that actually has some creative cheers that aren't vulgar. I wish UND could get some of those going, with the way our student section is setup is would be great and very loud.

  13. A healthy Huff could lead to a great 13-14 season!!!!

Ha, when I first read that, I though you said "A healthy Huff could lead us to a 13 win, 14 loss season" lol I was like, what the heck is wrong with this guy. Huff is a tremendous player, through in the rest of a mostly returning team and some strong new freshman and we should have a greate season :)

  14. Agree, and posted as such in another thread. The number one seed should earn the right to play the weakest two seed tn their region- the #8. Apparently the committee believes there is no difference between BC and UND. Quinnipiac as the one seed now likely faces defending champ and power BC in an arena an hour train ride from Chestnut Hill.

Agreed, but there are always homers that think UND should be the #1 seed every year regardless of their record. I like UNDs spot right now; should be able to handle Niagara just fine. Likely a rematch with the Goofs to go the the Frozen Four, which will be the B1G test. If we can bean Minnesota, we have a solid chance of #8. One game at a time, but if there is a silver lining; should we make it to the Frozen Four, we wouldn't have to play BC.

  15. UND needs to focus on Niagra and let Yale do what they may. If UND is looking ahead, it will be to Oct of 2013 they will be looking. This is the time of the year that upsets happen all the time. So lets beat Niagra and let the other side figure out what happens to them.

I'm sure the only people looking ahead are fans. No doubt this team is only concerned with playing Niagara right now. Hak would have it no other way.

  16. Don't really care what Niagra's record is or how they've done this season. Fact is, they can beat UND if the boys don't show up. No looking past them. Hope the team will be ready.

agreed can't look past them, but i like the matchup ... i would prefer Niagara to Yale

  17. Can't ever look past an opponent, but they have not played anyone decent this year. They may have a solid goalie, but we will be by far the most dominant team to test them. Shouldn't be another Yale game, Yale actually had a little talent that year (not that we should have lost). UND 5-1

I'd rather our matchup than the goofers ... Yale beat CC, Denver and tied BC this year.

  18. The way our teams are playing we'd be lucky to get a second round matchup in GR. :)

lets not be that kind of fan ... we played just fine at the final five. ran into a really hot goalie with Howe. Sure we could have played better, but they definitely weren't bad. Go Sioux, take care of the first round, then get some redemption on the goofers for ending our season last year.
