Fargo Public School reopening survey is out:
Parents......
49% face to face
33% hybrid
18% virtual
Teachers......
45% hybrid
28.5 face to face
26.5 virtual
That is shocking.
My wife has taught special ed for 15 years. She HATES distance learning for her students. Those students are at a huge disadvantage as well. Some of them can't wait to get out of their homes to go to school as an escape.
She is terrified of having to go back to distance learning again this fall and the repercussions that will go with it.
I'm surprised more teachers don't feel the same way.
She also has her summers off.

Yes, with a big part of that due to difference in how states are reporting it, which won't change with it being sent to Health & Human Services and then hidden from everyone. At least the data was semi-transparent with the CDC as people could see the source data and try to figure out what the differences are. Is government transparency not a good thing or did I miss a memo?
But since that isn't working perfectly, I guess the next step is to not let anyone see it? I guess that will cut down on questions about the numbers.
I guess I don't recall saying transparency is a bad thing. If I did, feel free to reference that. Transparency is a good thing.
All I stated was that the transparency you refer to has been woefully and embarrassingly wrong......most of the time.
Cite and quote all the stats and data you deem necessary.
Unfortunately, on this topic specifically, transparency doesn't equate to the truth.

Roughly 5x more deaths than COVID-19 to date.
Impossible.

Nothing, like he did. Except he wasted people's time with a big presser to tell us he is doing nothing and leaving it up to districts. That could've been sent out in a two paragraph release.
Right, but this is probably the best case scenario for North Dakota given all the variables (assuming he didn't mandate schools be open statewide, which probably wasn't likely).
I can only hope Governor Walz follows suit.
Northern Minnesota is not the same as Metro Minneapolis/St Paul.
2 different worlds. You cannot treat them the same.
If he wants to destroy the metro area, that's on him. But he should not destroy northern Minnesota simply because we reside in the same state.

Agreed, no one has been right. It is a novel virus and nothing was known about it 6 months ago. But I'm still going to at least defer to the experts opinions and at least listen to what they have to say instead of completely dismissing them instead of policiticians (on either side) or keyboard virologists.
As for moving forward, I'm in the same boat as you, people need to make their own decisions.
Ok, but respectfully......I also deferred to the experts and have been unimpressed with their results.
So, what's next? At what point do we decide ourselves what is expert opinion and hypothesis?
To your second point: will we ever be allowed to make our own decisions? If not, are you ok with that?

9 hours ago, jdub27 said:I mean, 4 1/2 months ago we were also told "the 15 cases, within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done". But I guess if we wouldn't have tested, we would never know about the 3.3+ million confirmed cases the have shown up since then.
The experts have openly admitted they are learning as they go, with it being a novel virus and all that should be expected. They have missed the mark plenty, but they aren't afraid to admit that and adjust their thinking as new information becomes available. Kind of like they are following the whole science process. Fauci has also been clear he's not giving economic advice, his opinions come from the public health perspective and those in charge need to weigh their decision making with other factors.
So the 'science and medical experts' that we're all supposed to trust have been mostly wrong the whole time then, including Fauci.....
Where do we stop trusting the experts and when? They've been wrong on so many things.
That's what this is and has been all about. Bad 'science and medical expertise'.......and politics.
The forecasting and models by literally every health organization have been statiscally and tragically off. There have been constantly evolving opinions by the general public, and.....wait for it.....'medical experts and scientists'. They don't all agree on this just like we don't.
However, fact is, we just don't hear about those differing 'medical experts and scientists' opinions because they are filtered and diluted out by mainstream and social media because it doesn't fit a narrative.
At some point, we just have to decide what's best for us individually. If someone wants to lock themselves in quarantine and wear a mask everywhere they go, have a blast.
But if I choose not to do that, there should be reciprocity. We all know that hasn't and won't happen.
The data since the start of all this has never been empirical. If I die of a heart attack tomorrow and test positive for COVID-19, I go down in the stats as COVID-19. That's what they're doing.
Honest question: why don't we have vaccines for the Influenza strains yet? How long has it been around and why haven't we solved that yet? It kills thousands of Americans every year. The response will be because there are way too many strains and it morphs so often so when you get your flu shot in the fall, it really only covers 10-20% of flu strains.
The novel coronavirus will do the same thing, I promise.
Yet now we can't get back to 'normal' until a vaccine is found......
....or until Trump loses in November. At which point we will be back to 'normal'.

Please spare me your sanctimony.
Just in the last two weeks, Trump has falsely accused a media correspondent who was critical of him of murdering a woman and falsely accused a 75 year old man of being a member of Antifa and using his cell phone to jam police equipment. In the case of the 75 year old, the man is currently recovering from a nearly fatal head injury and is now experiencing significant harassment and death threats because the President of the United States used his considerable platform to slander the man.
Let's not forget that Trump's rise in political prominence began with him slandering the previous president with the racist smear that he wasn't a U.S. citizen despite all evidence to the contrary.
If you voted for him then you're obviously OK with all of this and you certainly don't find dishonesty despicable.
