  1. I'd be happy to see Gwoz come here. I felt like he got the short end of the stick at Denver when he was let go and I still feel he's an incredibly good coach. I think he could maintain that level of excellence we've gotten used to with Hak at the helm. I really hope they don’t promote from within. I think we need an experienced head coach otherwise we’re going to lose recruits. I know our facilities are the best but I think it’s going to be hard to convince young players to commit to a coach with no experience at the helm.
  2. Ah okay. I wasn't sure if that was the case or if the University still owned it. Good to know.
  3. I'm an alumni and I will always support the university. I have already bought plenty of non-Sioux logo gear and I'll buy whatever the new gear looks like as well as long as I like it. This doesn't really have anything to do with moving on. I graduated when they were still known as the Fighting Sioux and I happen to like the merchandise. I have lots of Sioux stuff now and plan to wear it the rest of my life and I really don't see anything wrong with that. I was simply asking if this idea has ever been brought up before. It's something I could see the NA committee from Spirit Lake that fought so hard to keep the name and logo pursuing. Truthfully I think they should own the trademark and should be able to do with it as they please.
  4. Ever since the Redskins drama this past summer I've been wondering if a similar move could be made regarding the Fighting Sioux nickname. Let me preface by saying I understand that the team will never again be known as the Fighting Sioux nor will we ever see the logo on our jerseys. I get that part and I've accepted it. I'm more so wondering if let's say there's someone out there passionate enough to challenge the US Trademark and Patent office on the validity of the trademark on the Sioux logo, similar to what they did for the Redskins logo. One would think they could use the Redskins case as an example to request the same result. If it were successful the Sioux logo could then be printed by pretty much anyone because the trademark would no longer be owned by anyone. I see this more as a side-effort with no relation to the new nickname committee's activities. The end result being that dedicated Sioux fans would still be able to buy the merchandise and could choose to call them whatever they want. The way I see it this would also still allow us to be in compliance with the NC$$'s BS requirements. Has anyone else pondered this?
  5. Dude..... you said they were 19th heading into the weekend of the conference tourneys.... FALSE. They were only ranked 19th because they won their conference tourney to get the auto-bid. They were not ranked in the top 20 any time before March 20th so they could have very well been ranked 54th in the pairwise though I don't know how you'd look that up. It was the first time a fifteen or sixteen seed beat a number one or two seed, since the field was expanded to sixteen teams. The point is that game is still considered by many to be the biggest upset in college hockey history. Arguing otherwise is just ignorance....
  6. Um sorry but you're wrong... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005%E2%80%9306_NCAA_Division_I_men%27s_ice_hockey_rankings#USA_Today.2FUSA_Hockey_Magazine Holy Cross was not ranked 19 until March 20th (6 days before they beat the gophs) this was after they had already won their conference tourney on March 18th. Before that Holy cross wasn't ranked in the top 20 all season.... Maybe you should do your research next time troll.... that took me like 10 mins to find
  7. I don't believe the app needs to support it. Any video you are viewing on your iPhone or iPad can be viewed on Apple TV as long as it uses the QuickTime codec or at least I think that's how it works. And it doesn't really mirror it but instead pushes the video feed to the apple TV display.
  8. Actually I was looking the other day on http://www.undsports...0&ATCLID=785161 and I see that it says: Mobile iPhone/iPod app The North Dakota app not only has news, schedules, scores and more, but you can also listen to the games live and exclusive on-demand video from UND Insider, including press conferences, player and coach interviews, and much more. Download the FREE North Dakota iPhone app in the iTunes App Store 5]Live video and audio: With an in-app upgrade and a UND Insider account, fans can now watch UND men's hockey and listen to all audio broadcasts. Now this would lead me to believe that you should in theory be able to view the live game on your iPhone through the app which would then allow you to throw it up on Apple TV provided you have one. The live streaming video has to be available in QuickTime format since that is the standard codec for apple devices and I believe that is what is required for playback on apple TV. Last season when I purchased the webcast I was not able to watch it on my iPad due to the flash requirement but since they're now saying you can watch it live in the app that would mean the webcast is being offered in the QuickTime codec as well as flash. I don't know much about to Roku boxes but if you indeed can display it on the apple tv in HD that would be pretty awesome. I'll keep you guys posted.
  9. For the record, I was never complaining about the tv deal this year. I mean, it sucks that it's not FCS anymore but we're in a new conference and that's to be expected. I started this post simply to learn what upgrades, if any, had been made to the webcast/broadcasts for und home games. The first response perfectly answered my questions. Frankly, the real issues with the broadcasts I believe was due to the cameras at the Ralph not being HD. If they've upgraded those then I expect the broadcasts will be greatly improved. I paid $13 a month for the sports package last year through directv so I think the $63 for UND insider might actually be a better deal provided the webcasts work well. Again, thanks to those who responded with helpful input. Go Sioux!!
  10. So I live in Minneapolis and I've got directv so I'll be able to get the handful of games that'll be broadcast this season but I'm a diehard fan so that's not enough. Previously I've subscribed to Fox college sports but that's obviously not an option anymore. I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on the UND Insider webcasts for this season? I've bought the webcasts for home games in the past and they were not great quality; really grainy and in my opinion not worth the money. I see they're offering UND insider for $63 which gives you access to all 17 home games in HD. What I want to know is what all did they upgrade? If it's in HD I'm assuming that means the cameras at the Ralph have been upgraded? For me it's totally worth the money if the webcasts have been improved but I haven't really heard anything on that so I'm curious if anyone else has?? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  11. I'm interested in these tickets if you still have them. Please shoot me an email at c.gullickson@me.com so I can get some more info on them. What night are they for?
  12. Although I don't post very often I do follow these boards on a regular basis and I frequently see your comments on various subjects. While in the past I may have defended you, it is now clear to me that you truly are off your rocker. There are 16 states in the US which have legalized medical marijuana use and 6 states with pending legislation or ballot measure to do the same. For those who happen to live in one of these states they are not illegally acquiring pot through drug dealers but instead purchasing their marijuana legally through medical dispensaries. As for risks versus no reward, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that. Clearly you don't use marijuana so I'm not even going to bother trying to explain to you the advantages of using it to treat various conditions. But if you think the typical medical treatments are the most "responsible" options then again you really need to do more research before you start judging other people. Take a look at the link below: http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000145 As for me being open about how I use marijuana and posting it online; what exactly makes you think you have the right to judge me? or anyone else for that matter? I could care less what you think about my decisions. Plain and simple, marijuana helps me live a better life so I'm going to continue using it regardless of what anyone thinks. Oh and who the heck is Jeff Spicolis? seriously
  13. Seriously? I thought you were joking at first but clearly you are just delusional. If you are going to compare pot to alcohol I think you better do further research. Smoking pot in no way, shape, or form means you will end up 40 years old living in your parent's basement. I've been smoking pot on and off since the age of 16 and it definitely didn't lead me down the path that you describe. I have a college degree, a full-time job, and I'm currently working towards a masters degree. I read, write, play music, and even volunteer my time to charity on occasion; I'd say that makes me a productive member of society. My family has a history of alcoholism so I've never been much of a drinker, with the exception of my college days at UND. I have terrible social anxiety that I've suffered from all my life and the doctor's treatment for this condition involves heavy medication through the use of Benzodiazepines such as Xanex or Valium. I'd rather not live my life as a total zombie so instead I choose to smoke pot to deal with my anxiety and I live a much happier life than I did while on the medication typically used to treat this condition. I know many people that use pot in very similar ways and they also contribute to society just as I do so I am not the sole example of how marijuana can be used responsibly. I am not saying that marijuana is all good either; it is still a drug and needs to be treated with respect and used in a responsible manner. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't be so quick to judge because both pot and alcohol have negative sides as well as positive and all factors should be considered before you make a judgement.
  14. Take it easy on him guys. I'll admit I didn't like his earlier posts either but it takes balls to admit when you're wrong about something; especially when you're a bison fan posting on siouxsports forums. He confessed to not knowing all the facts behind this issue and I have respect for that. Keep in mind that we're Sioux fans and no one can obsess like we can so it's probably safe to assume that most of us know all the in's and out's of this issue better than any outsider/troll that may be posting on this board
  15. I have considered this and I do believe that he holds the opinion that the University would be better off without the nickname and logo. My question is regarding what led him to form this opinion. If it was formed out of fear that other schools may not schedule us due to the nickname and logo issue then I feel that this is a weak position for him to take. I'm slightly worried about scheduling issues as well but it isn't enough for me to justify not trying to make this new legislation work. There is no precedence for this situation, therefore I feel it is worth letting it play out and seeing what might come of it. I think the odds are about 50/50 and for me that is enough to warrant fighting to keep this 80 year tradition alive. If I learned anything from my history of North Dakota class at UND with Kim Porter, it is that this state wouldn't be where it is today if it weren't for the Sioux nation and the other Native American tribes who settled here long before our ancestors came along. The same can be said for the University as it was established several years before North Dakota became a state. The Native Americans and the University of North Dakota have helped shape this great state into what it is today and their influence shines through in each and every facet. My pride for my school, my state, and their history is immeasurable and I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world. No matter what the outcome, I will always and forever be a Fighting Sioux. Go Sioux!
  16. I disagree completely. Whether he was called to testify or not is irrelevant. The issue lies in what side of the argument he stood on in his testimony. I've heard a million claims that he was "just doing his job" or he was simply "acting on orders from the SBoHE"... whatever. If his opinion was in support of keeping the logo and nickname and if he would have testified to this opinion in front of the legislature, I do not believe he would be risking his job. He would not be fired simply for stating his opinion. Just like coach hakstol wasn't for stating his. Nor have any of the PC UND professors who speak out against the nickname and logo. Its pretty clear that UND does not fire faculty or employees for stating their opinion. Anyone who follows this issue has to admit this is true. I am not saying that there is no risk associated with Fassion coming out in favor of the nickname and logo; I am just saying that he wouldn't be fired for it. If anything, they would just cook up some other reason to fire him. Either way I think the honorable thing to do is stand up for what you believe in. Win or lose you can at least walk away with your head held high knowing that you didn't succumb to the pressure of the loud minority but instead stayed true to your own personal values. In the end I think that is what this fight is all about; no matter what side of the argument you are on. Frank said it perfectly. The tradition that the Sioux legacy represents should exemplify honor, pride, and overcoming great adversity. IMO I do not feel Fassion or Kelly possess these values, and therefore do not have what it takes to lead this great university.
  17. Thanks for all the info guys. I appreciate it and I'm glad I asked before dropping an fortune on stubhub. Go Sioux!!!
  18. I've been trying to figure out how to purchase ticket packages for the 2011 Frozen Four at the Xcel center in St Paul but have run into a number of issues and I was hoping someone can give me some insight into how this works. According the the NCAA website, the frozen four is sold out. I spoke with Ticketmaster and they told me that the ticket packages for the frozen four have not yet gone on sale and the onsale date has not yet been announced. I've also found some ticket packages for sale on websites such as stubhub.com and similar but the prices they are asking for the pakages are absolutely rediculous and they aren't even good seats. I live in Minneapolis and really want to make the frozen four this year to see the Sioux kick some butt so any insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I don't even know what the face value of a ticket package is so I want to make sure I don't over pay. I also don't want to rely on ticketmaster telling me that they haven't gone on sale yet and then I miss out on going completely. All I know is that I am not going to pay $400+ per person/per package for upperbowl nosebleed seats when I can't even find out what the face value is. This is exactly why I hate sites such as stubhub because they allow businesses to purchase large amounts of tickets and then scalp them for rediculous prices, I simply don't agree with this practice. PLEASE HELP!!! I don't want to get scammed on this.
  19. The legilature is discussing the bills this afternoon and making any necessary revisions. There will then be a house vote on the bills but it doesn't sounds like this has been scheduled yet.
  20. I graduated last May and had to move to the cities to get a real job and I haven't seen a game yet this year. I've had season tickets for the last 4 years so its been tough watching all the games on tv or webcast. I could really use a good ole weekend back up in grand forks to see the Sioux crush those rodents one last time in our house. My roommate is also a sioux alumni and would like to make it up as well so if you have 2 for each night that would be even better. PM me or email me at c.gullickson@hotmail.com
  21. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/185170/ Whats really sad is it almost took me longer to write the two emails I sent to the pres and VP of the NCAA then it did for them to issue this response
  22. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/185170/ That was quick. I can see they really put a lot of thought and careful consideration into their final decision.... (obvious sarcasm)
  23. Piece of sh#% webcast is down... really happy I pay like $10 a month for somthing that doesn't even work
