They pulled a 6'3 recruit from Bismarck this week too for 2025.   I wonder why our coaches never look for local talent.  SDSU wins with girls from the mid west.  We like to look elsewhere...

SDSU currently gets the pick of the litter and they have earned that on the court.
I can assure you UND is looking at and trying to recruit local talent.

KK is one of the fastest guys on the team. He was injured last year so we’ll see if health and a simplified scheme will spark a renaissance for him this year.

He definitely looks the part going into the season. Let's hope the simplified schemes lets him do less thinking and use his athleticism to his advantage.

I also don't think the UND athletic department would ever look at it with the scheduling and staff strain it would put on REA and UND during hockey season.

Right or wrong, this would be the biggest hurdle. The facility is used for a lot more than just hockey games, interrupting that for a good chunk of a week would be an issue. Wonder if they couldn't find some happy medium like a holiday tournament of sorts when it would be less invasive.

I know that the REA is always looking at ways to maximize the facility and revenue for it.

If you only want to watch UND, you would need NCHC.TV, Midco Sports Plus, and a TV package that includes CBSSN (any of which would include ESPN).  You would also probably need ESPN+ for a month or two during the NCAA tournaments.  Good thing is that the streaming packages can all be cancelled whenever they are not needed.

CBS Sports will actually be pretty minimal as well.
Whatever games they pick up for hockey (usually 2-3 regular season) plus Frozen Faceoff and whatever UND games of the 6 (or 12) Summit League games they choose plus the Summit semi-finals (for women) and finals (for men and women).

The team looks much improved from last year.  The girls just looked more like Division 1 college athletes.

This is the commentary I've heard from people who are more knowledgeable about the sport than I am. They have done wonders with the existing pieces they were working with and brought in some impressive athletes.

  6. Football only memberships are pretty few and far between in FBS. I think Navy and Hawaii are currently the only FBS, football-only affiliates of conferences and they are both fairly specific cases. There aren't a whole lot of conferences just looking for a football member, it doesn't do much to benefit anyone.

Add the Dakotas and do Central/East divisions

AAC doesn't need to and the Dakota schools (individually or any combination of them) doesn't come close to adding $7 million per school value to the media contract.

But that line of thinking could be what spurs some movement with some group down the road.

Bisonville is thinking the AAC will take them or hoping anyway , what a mess of a conference the AAC is

I'd disagree on the AAC being a mess.

But regardless, why that won't happen in one picture:

If they need to replace SMU, it will be with an all sports member to get back to an even 14. There is no amount of untapped revenue out there that makes trips to Fargo worth it.

Current rumors, which might be obsolete by noon.

    • ACC is still internally discussing the additions of not only Cal & Stanford, but also potentially SMU.
    • MWC seems aligned. Would add Pac-4 but would not move the 9 best to PAC leaving others behind.
    • AAC also wants remaining Pac-4 schools

Here's my thinking. If I'm looking at the Pac-4, MWC, AAC. The big time $ is gone. The only way to get that $ is to move to one of the remaining Power conferences. Where I am a bit confused. Why would the ACC not admit Cal & Stanford? From a travel perspective, we're talking 1 road trip for each sport out to San Francisco. You play them both on that swing. Travel would be atrocious for Cal & Stanford, but not the other way around. Also, look what just happened to the Pac-12. There's only a handful of big players that aren't in the BIG, 12, SEC. Get them into the fold.

My guess still is ACC admits Cal & Stanford. Wazzu and Oregon State to MWC. That's it.

I think your last comment is the most likely scenario.
ACC must want to get into Texas for recruiting at some cost if they are looking at and SMU is apparently really pushing to get back to a P5 conference as they are reportedly offering to forego any revenue share for the first few years of joining a conference. So that's a move that could happen but don't see it causing a lot of dominos to continue to fall though. Maybe the AAC goes after one other school to get back to an even number? UTEP to add another Texas school?

Really wish they would have built the Pollard 2 addition east to west, to connect Pollard Center to Memorial Village (shifting the field south).

Issues with the railroad and actual through road there plus eating up the grass practice field along with the throwers practice area for T&F.

bet they just take the money from the dissolving pac 12 and do indy to figure things out

What money? There are no exit fees and the conference actually owes Comcast $50 million for overpayments. The only value that exists for the PAC is their P5 autonomy (for now) and NCAA credits.

  12. Don't know what Stanford or Cal will do but WSU and OSU finding a way to merge the PAC and MWC is their ideal step forward. Not sure how plausible, but keep what you can of NCAA credits and autonomy of the PAC while avoiding the exit fees for the MWC.

Don't see Stanford and Cal wanting to associate with the majority of those schools. Stanford will be fine regardless. Not as sure about Cal.

Not sure how connected the MWC is but a bigger mess would be the majority backstabbing a few stragglers, voting to eliminate exit fees and shuttling to the PAC. Not sure if that's even a possibility though.

Looks like I have some friends, anyway, I wanted to provide more clarity on my position.  If UND was 100% supported by itself.  I would say no problem go for it.  But, the athletic department is 50% supported by govt fees and public tax dollars.  Any dollars coming in should be made to support the department until it is 100% funded.  In my opinion you can't have it both ways.

    Source:  USA Today

    110 North Dakota Summit $30,859,877 $30,837,768 $14,777,751 47.89%

UND has approximately 48% of its revenue defined as Total Allocated or (Student Fees $3 million and School Funds $11 million).

Total Allocated: The sum of student fees, direct and indirect institutional support and state money allocated to the athletics department, minus certain funds the department transferred back to the school. The transfer amount cannot exceed the sum of student fees and direct institutional support that the department receives from the school. (Under NCAA reporting rules, any additional money transferred to the school cannot be considered part of the department’s annual operating revenues or expenses.

I completely understand this stance and agree with a lot of it.
But its also fair to point out that UND has the 6th lowest subsidy in the FCS (excluding the Ivies). There is also only 3 AAC, 7 MWC and 1 Sun Belt schools that have less of a subsidy on a percentage basis, meaning UND is currently 17th or so in lowest subsidies in the FCS/G5 group. I'm all for improving that number but I'm also fine with there being some investment by students/state.

The bigger question is how much does the budget have to go up, what additional out dollars come with it and what do you gain if there is some sort of move. It wasn't a coincidence that Chaves pointed out everyone benefits if the 4 Dakota schools stay together. They are mostly in similar positions and at the G5 level, geography is still a very important piece of the puzzle. The Sun Belt went from a big mess to a pretty solid conference by strategically tightening their footprint. C-USA? Not so much. Is there a way to move 4-6 schools into one of those conferences and having a northern division? That would seem like the ideal type of move (which has been mentioned by many others).

What does mean something is if any FBS conference wants you.  No one knows about you guys or wants you.  Get over it you're on the outside looking in for any conference invite. It's just a fact.

Despite your wishes, none of those are facts but here's one to try on for size: It is clear that no one is clamoring to add a school that has severe geography issues with troubling enrollment trends and needed a legislative bailout to hit their budget with no clear answer for future issues.

    Thanks. How is it?

Others probably have more informed opinions than myself, but overall, I think they are finding there way and aren't afraid to adapt and try new things to find their niche.
Good quality but like any restaurant these days, you're going to pay for it.
