  1. Mitch, who played the last 1.5 years at SCSU before transferring to UND.

He'll be eligible next Dec to play for the Sioux.

I knew about the two MacMillians I just read the original post wrong. I didn't catch MacWilliam as opposed to MacMillan. So i thought there was now 3 MacMillan's. I can see how it can be confusing for TH.

  2. I have no doubt that Hakstol will win an NCAA title eventually. Definitely don't think it will be this year due to all the injuries, but even as soon as next year he could have one.

You know what you are 100% correct. Hakstol will win a title. Not exactly sure when but he will. He is to good of a coach and we have to good of a program to not win another title soon. Next year possibly depending on the early departures. Hell after last year I guess any one could win a title as long as they make the tournament. Duluth proved that.

  3. I hope it dies a hard death and never comes back.

Early thi season, it seemed that instead of working on hockey they were more concerned about the skits they wanted to put together than the poor on ice performance?

I think it no coincidence it went away when things seemed darkest this year. I would speculate maybe it was mandated to take

I agree it probably needs to just end. Like it's name sake it probably should have ended with his career at UND.

  4. 3 U18 players were demoted. Koules, Nik Olsson and Brendan Silk. Not sure why. I heard they were probably going to demote some guys after their bad showing at the international tournament a few weeks ago. You can be demoted if you're 17. You're just ineligible to play in international tournaments at the U17 level.

From everything I have seen or heard about Koules appears to be positive. I understand he probably will not be the next Jonny Toews or TJ Oshie but he certainly isn't a bad player either. I wonder if he was just caught in the numbers game or if he truly did warrant this demotion. I still believe he will have a real positive impact on our program and if he can help us land Seth Jones more power to him.

  5. I have seen at least one report of a player who committed to BU reevaluating decision. I wonder how bad this is going to get. I am sure those BC fans are just loving the fact that their in town rival is about to be shall I say proctol examination.

  6. Like I said, I am an optimist. I think if he takes a long hard look at what will help him be NHL ready, he will give UND a good hard look. If he doesn't come, UND still has a great outlook for next year. It's funny, when bunches of fans are overconfident, see Michigan game in the Frozen Four last year, I am kind of leary. When everybody is pessimistic, I tend to look at the possibilities. Have seen way to much on this board or elsewhere that there is "No chance" only to have it turn the other way, see Luke Johnson committing to UND. The great thing is that even if he doesn't commit, I am not going to be one of the "sky is falling" type who are wondering if the Sioux will ever get a recruit as good as Minnesota does. The Sioux are who they are because they fit together the pieces of the puzzle who they have and always manage to be a top-end team, see this year's team.

I agree and of course UND will be just fine even if Mr. Jones doesn't come here. I hope he does but I am not feeling he will be coming here due to a few factors and of course they are just my thoughts and are trivial perhaps. 1. His brothers experience with the NCAA route 2. Doesn't like cold weather.

  7. I have one caveat in wanting Jones to come for a year or two, that being he is the consummate teammate that Toews and Parise were, and doesn't have one foot in the NHL and one in college. If he comes and has an expectation when and what situations the coaches should be playing him like Erik Johnson seemed to do, then I would question if the team concept would be harmed. I have confidence that he could fit into the Fighting Sioux philosophy like the forementioned did, and am certain that Hakstol has confidence that he would as well, or I'm sure he wouldn't be recruiting him. The fact that Hakstol has told guys if they are coming back they need to be all in, would lead me to believe that he isn't looking to keep guys an extra year or bring guys in for a year or two, unless they are committed to the program.

And of course all that above only matters if he comes here. Which has yet to be determined. I guess I just wouldn't get your hopes up.

  8. I hope you all are right and he does come here. I personally think he is not going to want to be burdened with school work. He wants to go to the NHL quick and I just see him thinking the CHL is the best for him. I hope to gosh I am wrong. True as many have said even if he stays one year it really is worth the name recogition and a recruiting tool. Come on Seth GF will go crazy for you!

  9. I know I will probably be in the minority on this but I am not sure it is worth it to land Jones. No doubt he is a great talent but those one year hired guns don't really seem to work out well in building a program. You know he is going to leave quickly after the following season and then you just end up having to possibly fill a roster spot late in the spring or summer.

In my opinion he should be a 2yr NCAA player if he goes that route. He would be able to work on building mass with the trainers and i feel would be much better prepared to jump to the NHL. Others may suggest going the CHL route. We will all see but I will be shocked if he steps foot on this campus. You are right though is it worth having him come to campus if it is just for one year. What happens if he gets hurt like Rocco. I know he comes from money as Popeye has had a good career in the NBA so we will see if they value a good education. Does he need the money? Sure he wants to be successfully on his own but he certainly will never have to eat Ramen Noodles or mac and cheese for weeks just to get by. College days were so fun.

  10. I think Fetch and Benny both make some very strong arguments and I so wish we could convince the NCAA to allow us to keep our beloved nickname. I so truly want to fight this with you guys(Fetch, Benny) but I think at this point it really is out of our hands. We need to pull our bootstraps up and move forward. I think the only hope is that somehow the tribes can win some sort of lawsuit but it might really be a longshot. I think fellow posters should try and not resort to any name calling or degrading these two. They are fellow sioux fans/family and they just want what we all truly would like to keep. I respect that.

  11. Again, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa follow the NCAA's "best practices" policy when it comes to scheduling. That means they won't schedule teams on the NCAA's "naughty monikers" list.

FSU, Utah, and CMU are not on the "naughty monikers" list.

UND is on the "naughty monikers" list.

What I don't understand is the policy is intended to not stereotype NA yet just because the NCAA says FSU and Utah and CMU are ok that means those names don't offend anyone. It seems as though the NCAA is acting like GOD. The policy should be evenly applied and if the name is offense it shouldn't matter if they are on the sanctions list or not. I think that is a point that irritates a lot of people about this whole process.
