  1. If the Sioux can make a 4th seed in the NCAA, and Denver a 1st Seed, we could meet them at the X in the first round.

Hopefully we can repay them with a 1 to 0 defeat.

All a team has to do is win four games in the NCAA tourney, Denver proved that you do not have to be the best team to win it all, as in 2004.

Yeah... why don't we just wait to play Denver next year (0-4 this year) so we can save ourselves some embarrassment. We can't beat them on the road, we can't beat them at home, they are better then us, and I think their season sweep of us has shown that.

The best case scenario would be not to embarrass ourselves anymore then we already have and at least try to get a couple wins the rest of the season.

  2. Dude, with all due respect...we (UND for those following along at home) are equivalent to a 6th place squad in the WCHA.

    :(

Yes we are mediocre right now, denver will probably handle us pretty good this coming weekend

  3. Here's the bottom line from Hak himself..."we need to find a killer instinct and start putting teams away", which to me means keep putting pressure on and scoring so things like a bad call or a bad break or a great play by your opponent only gets them closer, not sends it to OT or loses it.

And as far as your last comment, I will be there in the spring whether we're playing good or bad, and unlike you who apparently looks at the team through rose-colored glasses and sees all rainbows and candy canes, I'll be looking at things a little more realistically because I guarantee if this team doesn't figure out how to close out games with a lead there will be another New Hampshire around the bend come tournament time.

Exactly, it comes down to being clutch when it matters ( i.e. NCAA tournament) which we have not done and it is evident with all these frozen four appearances with Hak and no National Title to show for it.

  4. CRAP!!! We had this game and lost it, no one to blame but the boys.....hard practices this week Hak or I am coming back to GF and taking over myself. Meet me at the rink boys, we are skating Herbies until you learn not to blow a 2 goal lead!!!!!!!

Agreed, something's not working, i would have even taken a tie.....

  5. Well most of the student section never shows up and if they do its halfway through the game. Plus the band stopped playing the song that went with penalty cheer. And since the gophers can't score, the funnel cheer never gets done. Which all adds up to the games being very boring

Oh wow... and synchronized swimming, really?

  6. Would you rather be 3-4 and technically still in "warm-ups" (transition) trying to figure it out*, or

Sit 1-7 with two road games coming, no playoffs, and 7-12 since becoming playoff eligible.

PS - UND could still win the Great West. Beat Poly. Beat Davis.

    * And still have 2.5 seasons to figure it out before it really counts.

Beat Poly and Davis?? That's funny

  7. Agree with you about the defense, they are playing well enough where the Sioux should be in it.

And yet, it seems to me like this is another laughable game for fighting sioux football

Thank God for Fighting Sioux Hockey

  8. USF's crowd of 500 absolutely put UND's paltry turnout of what, 7500 today?, to shame as far as enthusiasm but the most disturbing thing recently is the lack of student turnout. WTF guys?? Last week against Stony Brook - the student section was 1/3 full. I would have give my left nut for a turnout like that yesterday against USF because it was EVEN LESS!! What gives??? The AL is OUR HOUSE!

I understand what you are saying, and me growing up in a football atmosphere in the Pacific Northwest I enjoy top level football as much as the next person. But you have to understand, this is not top level football. Even in our wins this year at the Alerus It has been extremely frustrating to see teams just steamroll our defense, then add today when we all the suddenly forgot how to tackle.

First, you have to attract the students with something to watch, and by the looks of today we don't have much to offer. Second, hockey is first and will always be first in popularity at UND. Third, we do not have anything that would attract top level athletes to Grand Forks for football. Of course there is the occasional exceptional athlete(Ismael Bamba) that will show up but for the most part we are scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to recruiting.

I'm not trying to be mean or rude, just realistic. Following college football recruiting for the last 8-9 years you get to understand and see the pattern of how it works along with who gets the players and who doesn't.

  9. From a sideline perspective:

This is a very simple diagnosis of the game today and our current team: We missed countless opportunities and made multiple stupid decisions(penalties etc.) that allowed USF to win the game. USF is not any different than the last two opponents we have played. Granted, their QB can run, but we can't tackle so it doesn't really matter. If we have played our game this would have no doubt been a Fighitng Sioux victory.

Case in point: USF snaps the ball to the back of their own endzone, easy safety right? Nope, they manage to get the ball all the way back to their own 2 yard line with 4 missed tackles from UND to show for it.

Not mention USF ran the same screen play about 6-7 times, you think we would have picked up on it.....

  10. Would Chorney's injury have an effect on whether he leaves or stays? And does anyone know what happened to him?

It all really depends on how bad the MCL is and what kind of surgery and recovery he is going to need. Obviously, yes Edmonton would probably pick up the surgery tab on certain conditions but they also might want him to stay and make sure he can rehabilitate and play at the same level. Just thank God it wasn't the ACL :silly: (Trust me, I know)
