It would be nice if the Herald actually linked back to their own story on UND admin cuts in the story about the banners, but I'm probably expecting too much of their reporters. Instead, they cite the 1,300 people that signed a change.org petition.

Pathetic.
Complete lack of understanding and empathy for anyone, but themselves. Over the last two years, many good people at UND (Admin, Staff and Faculty) have lost their jobs. Their Jobs! Advocating for more firings to save sports losing a combined $2M-$3M annually is completely out of touch with reality.
BTW - The Herald's staff were on the scene with video and it looks like guys hanging the banners so I am not attributing this to any specific team on campus.

It's my understanding that admin are being cut, with a machete rather than a knife to the tune of like 20%. Is that incorrect?
Yes that's correct, but don't let facts get in the way.

The $160k was probably merchandise revenue sharing and other such dollars. Probably too much benefit given to most programs through this funding source, but a way to soften the blow. I liked seeing the financial statement for WH. Would like to see all sports financial statements as well. If we are going to take shots at one program, I would like to see all programs get the same scrutiny! WH is an easy target because of the lack of ticket revenue, but let's look at all of the other programs to get a true overview. Does anyone know how to find the reports similar to what Port added to his article?
I agree that it would be interesting to see the financials of all sports. Port got this from a "legislator in Bismarck". Unfortunately, it seems that this info is hard to find otherwise.

It's sad and disappointing that we need to go to a blog to get the facts on the issue. From the numbers there, of the $210k in WIH revenue, $160k was direct institutional support (I assume that's money from UND). So really, it's $50k in revenue and the team lost closer to $2.1 million in FY 2016. Also, there is no way the $3,100 for marketing and promotion includes all the marketing and promotion expenses incurred by the REA.
I agree. That's information I would expect to be covered by the local reporter assigned to the sport.

To be fair, a tape delayed national title game for the 2016 Women's Frozen Four drew 651,000 so almost half of that 1.4 million number.
That number surprised me. On the flip side, viewer numbers do not translate directly to $$$.
Those are surprising numbers. Likely aided by the broadcast being on free (CBS) tv.

Say Anything has the 2016 financials for WH. At the bottom of the "article".

Faison will be on 790 KFGO at 9:30.
KFGO.com online.
Glad BF mentioned the numbers again. Did anyone else get the impression that Heitkamp had no clue that WH played in the Ralph? He kept asking what UND was going to do with that "beautiful" WH facility.

I define Championship level programs as those that have a legitimate chance at winning a national championship. Not winning a Slummit League or a Big Sky league.
Does Oregon have a legitimate chance at winning a football championship? Yep
Does Gonzaga have a legitimate chance at winning a basketball championship? Yep
Does UND honestly have a chance in any sport aside from hockey? Except for the football long shot, none come close!
If someone from outside the area asks you about the UND basketball team, and you reply that we are a championship level program because we won the big sky, you get laughed out of the bar.
Its not the reason I am disappointed the WH program was cut, but it was the only other sport aside from MH that had a legitimate chance at a national championship. What really bothers me is that it impacts girls hockey into the youth level. Girls hockey is still a relatively new sport. When UND cut the program, it was kind of a slap in the face to all girls that play hockey in the area. While very, very few girls would actually would play for UND, the dream and role models were there for the local kids.
What I still don't understand is how Bemidji, St Cloud, and Duluth can make it work, but we can't?
The softball team travels much more. Do they have that many less scholarships? Are they coaches paid much less?
Could the WH program made cuts to get them in a better position?
Not if you are only interested in competing for National Championships.

Interesting thing is when Ohio State releases their allotment it will basically go back to UND fans to purchase on Thursday.
Exactly what my buddy and I were saying. Besides the fact that the more UND fans in the building on Friday, the better for OSU against Duluth. Maybe the percentage the schools make from selling their allotment is just too small for OSU to worry about.

OSU is a tough nut to crack, that's for sure. I even setup an account on their athletic ticketing website with a non-701 phone and non-ND mailing address so I could refer to that when I called. They still said we're not sure if we're going to be doing a public offering yet at this point. This was after lengthy holds so they could talk to supervisors.
Curious if anyone has had any luck whatsoever with OSU?
My buddy lives in Columbus and his wife actually got an email letting her know that tickets were available to students, which she used to be. When he called the OSU ticket office, they grilled him about how he knew about the sale and verified her name and the email address. He was going to try to buy them in my name, but OSU was having none of it and would only put the tickets in his name or his wife's name.
So, to answer your question, no luck here.

Here is a short clip of Joe Lunardi discussing the Fighting Hawks. Can't wait for Thursday!

I'm hoping that it is only during the holidays and the good folks at WDAZ are getting the week off.

Ended up with 4 ticket packages in section PLAT2 row WC ... is that section 2 in the upper level?
My guess is that is the second handicap accessible section since you got a wheelchair row. If you are referring to the "2" in the upper ring, those are all suites (1-40).

Ordered 10 more. She said they are really going fast once the student ticket office gets them.

On a positive note, five people (family/friends) that have not attended a game this year have bought tickets for the playoff game this morning. Three of them are driving in from Minot. I'm looking forward to seeing many new fans at this game.

Here's more info. Looks like you can watch on undsports.com
The University of North Dakota will unveil the Fighting Hawks Logo on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the UND High Performance Center. The Fighting Hawks new logo and wordmark will be revealed at that time.
Please join us if you are able. If you cannot be there in person, a video of the unveiling can be viewed at undsports.com. -

If your buddy is a movie fan, the Sky-Vu Drive In in Warren, MN can be a fun evening. It's about a 30 minute drive from Grand Forks.

Scott was a talented broadcaster and an all around wonderful guy. I very much enjoyed his work with UND basketball in the early to mid 90's. He will be missed.

Puuhhhlease! When has Sioux fans ever been fickle?!?
I have to admit, you are pretty hard to read based on your posts, so I can't tell if you are trying to be funny or sarcastic. If you are seriously asking that question, apparently you were not attending games during Gino's last couple years when the hockey team was not winning and the fans were nowhere to be found. This was also true for the majority of sports at UND during the 90's. When a team was winning, fans were there. When a team was struggling, tickets were hard to give away.
-
Unfortunately, I live in MN so I will not be able to take part in the vote next week. I have convinced ten of my non-UND affiliated friends in Minot to vote Yes. Hopefully, they have discussed the vote with others. Thanks to all of you on the board that have worked to counter the "No" crowd's one-note arguments.

UND W Hockey on Outside the Lines
in Women's Hockey

This wins "Most Absurd Comparison of All-Time Regarding UND Sports", but in the end, it doesn't matter. It's a non-researched, throw away line on an afternoon panel show.
