Any classic restaurants that haven't changed decor in 30+ years in the Fargo or Bismarck area?

I'm thinking places like Grandma Butterwicks or (now closed) Del's in Grand Forks.

Those places even the locals forget even exists.

Krolls Diner was always a staple when I would visit the grandparents in Bismarck when I was a kid (and some now closed diner in the Kirkwood mall from the 80s).

Was the place in Kirkwood the 4B's Cafeteria?  That was a favorite of my aunt when we visited.

Ohm's Cafe in Mandan hasn't changed much since the 80's

Just say in Chamber Facebook page Pub 76 (I think that was the name) was rebranded again at The Office Pub. That's what 3 name changes in 4 years? Reference point is the bar next to Casa Mexico  Mexican Village.

    Just a slight fix. :)

    One thing i find interesting.

The letter that was released stated he was the LONE finalist.... not that the job was offered or accepted.

Also does it state anywhere the actual words .... "I resign" ... dont recall that. Although an actual resignation letter may not have been released.

Colorado has a 14 day waiting period once finalists are named before the job can be offered..  Details included in this article.

    what did the note say?

MM or jim may be able to provide the exact verbiage since they put it together.  Essentially it said what has been mentioned in this thread and I'm going to have to paraphrase.

"Tim was a respected member of our internet community and our Sprig would be missed by all.  From SiouxSports."

I liked it that his online moniker was listed.  Really sad to say goodbye.

  6. It's also important to remember that the Englestads don't limit their power plays to UND Presidents.  Ralph was also instrumental in getting Terry Wanless replaced as AD.  That led to a couple of bad AD hirings that set the department back dramatically from the success of the late 90's.  Wanless was not even invited to the press conference when "The Ralph" was announced.  These kinds of tactics are very similar to the ones employed by KEM.

The part about no money coming in was an actual statement I heard.  Not sure if they knew about how the state funding component of running a university.

If by no money coming in, you mean $41.6M (FY 2014), $48.3M (FY 2015), $33.4M (FY 2016), $40M (FY 2017) and $34.7M (FY2018) in new gifts,  pledges grants and bequests to the UND Foundation.  What were the totals the last five years that we had the Sioux name because I'm having a hard time locating those numbers?

They have donated some to the REA for the locker room and new video board. I believe they gave a few million to UND for academics between 2009 and 2013 too.

In that case, I happily stand corrected.  I should have said no donations outside of The Ralph and MIH, but if they donated to academics then I admit I was wrong.  I certainly don't begrudge any decisions that the Engelstads or anyone else want to make with their money.  If they no longer want to donate to UND, that's their prerogative.  I just don't like the idea that donations are used to threaten the university.

While delegations is part of leadership, it doesn't absolve you of responsibility when it's done poorly. Ultimately the IAC and Faison/the IAC made recommendations, the final choice was still his.

You’re right. The IAC made coaches beg for their sports and then recommended the untenable position of keeping all 21 sports and increasing funding.

At that point, Kennedy evaluated the situation and made the absolute correct call to eliminate WIH and its $2M annual loss.  I give him immense credit for making the right decision that he knew would be unpopular.

In my opinion, none of the current KEM drama has anything to do with WIH.  At no point, has KEM or anyone associated with The Ralph argued for WIH.  That speaks volumes.  I don’t think Ralph ever imagined MIH having to share The Ralph when he conceived it.  KEM loves to threaten UND with hypothetical donations that are likely to never materialize regardless of what the university does in the future.  To my knowledge, no new donations have been initiated by the Engelstads since Ralph passed away.

VB also has the 3 home games that was apart of the BSC Tournament.

UND averaged 1,009 paid attendance for their matches in that tournament compared to roughly 200 for WIH.  That's a pretty substantial difference in paid attendance.

Fake news.  Both programs let Champions club members in for Free with basically same attendance.  Women's hockey needed to go based on total cost.

I agree that WIH deserved the ax based on total cost, but attendance was 35% higher (paid and unpaid) at Volleyball during the 2016 year.

    Volleyball - 17,433 (16 matches) - Avg. 1,090

    Women's Ice Hockey - 15,344 (19 games) - Avg. 807

Anyone remember this Logo, used to hang on the east wall inside the Field-house.

This picture was taken at the time President John F. Kennedy was here.

    kennedy und sioux (1).jpg

Notice Home of UND Sioux, no fighting in the wordage. I've talked this over with many alumni over the years and we don't remember the word Fighting to have been used with Sioux when we went to UND. Was hanging at least into the early to mid 70's.

Pretty large, maybe this was a gift to UND?

It looks like it was painted directly onto the windows on the east side of Hyslop.
