  1. Important cross-post bulletin for those going to Madison.
  2. Rumor has it that the first person to buy Jim a beer in Madison this weekend gets a SiouxSports.com gold membership. (If you see Neil Patrick Harris sportin' green in Madison, buy him a beer, too.)
  3. Of course, with my reply to the topic, everybody'll be checking again to see if I added a link.
  4. No kidding! 155 other post views in last 30 minutes thought the same thing.
  5. These are SOLD. Thanks to others for your interest, good luck and GO SIOUX!
  6. Sec 123 Row KK Seats 3-6, lower bowl end zone row 26. Helping to ensure that the Sioux will play well in St. Louis (Murphy's Law), I am selling my four ticket packages. I'm asking for cost (face + NCAA's application fee is $626 for four) and please throw me a few bucks for shipping. I will prefer a PayPal payment. If I get two separate offers for two packages each, I'll do that. Please contact me privately. I will post again when these have been taken. (The only stipulation is that you'll need to cheer as hard as I would have.) For any who don't know, a ticket package includes both semis and the final game. To see the arena map: http://www.scottradecenter.net/content/seatlocator.html Go, Sioux! Kirk
  7. Beware of the SiouxSports telemarketers, collecting your cell phone numbers! Thank you, Jim, for implementing this beyond my expectations. I still think it would be worth a few dollars per year to the majority of us. I love the hilarious visualization of a SiouxSports intern pounding out score updates late on weekend nights, or on their phone at the game. There's opportunity to milk that as the service's theme, slogan or name. What's up with the photo on the registration page?? I'm in favor of attractive models. However, she looks like she's getting a txt from me rather than having the emotion--or at least interest--in getting a Sioux hockey score. Maybe she's looking at the recent tie score: UND 2 SCSU 2 Final Or, is she the new, mysterious SiouxSports intern?
  8. Nothing against those who like this story to taunt the Gophers--it is a rivalry and shadenfreude is part of the deal. I want to record that a lot of us are not just cheering against the Gophers but rather cheering for Holy Cross, who won us over with more than just the score. (Albeit, being against our rival is definitely one factor.) The game is an event to remember, especially since 9,000+ other people in the building went bananas together. The way that the Sioux fans' gratefulness, interest and exuberance has gone this week, this feels a little like our relationship with Maine [newbies: Coach Walsh jersey reference], where some feel-good things have happened in both directions and there's an unoffical brotherhood between a lot of fans. Perhaps HC will continue to have a Green following in the same way, and we'd welcome some fans in Purple, too. I love that you're trying to buy HC jerseys. Kirk

  10. I'm looking for one ticket package, want to sit with other Sioux fans. E-mail me at flyvm9502@sneakemail.com I will post again after this need is satisfied.
  11. If you're outside of the Red River Valley, let us know where you roll, and you might find a fellow fan nearby. Having just moved to Charlotte, NC, I'd like to find out whether any other fans are in my region. I don't expect to find any in my city, but this might be an interesting thread topic.
  12. I know I'm a day late, but I wanted to add some accolades upon Brian Lee for his game-winning assist on Friday night. This was the first Sioux game that I got to see this year, as I have moved to Charlotte, NC. (Small benefit: I did get to see Mike Commodore get in a fight on TV yesterday) It was discussed earlier in the thread that the freshmen were crashing the net in this game. Zajac's finesse pass to Stafford was money, but to me, the play of the game was Brian Lee following his own shot to the net, then making the heads-up and patient pass across the crease nose to Toews. It all started with Lee following his own shot. Prpich is my favorite player, but I'm going to pick on him here. Once per game, he receives a long pass and comes in one-on-one, and he promptly buries it into the goalie. He had one of these on Friday, too, and there was even a nice rebound, but he was coasting behind the net. In this particular instance, he may not have had a good chance to follow his shot, but it feels like a pattern. I was excited to see the freshman defender going to the net. Toews had the easy part in that transaction. I was really impressed with our freshmen--this looks like quite a class. I can't wait to come up nort' for the @SCSU series!
  13. We can't pretend that he got away with that one. DEN-5 Paul Stastny (2-Holding) NDK 11:37 2nd Period I'd say it wasn't as obvious live, but more grevious than average.
  14. I remember being baffled at how this relatively slow-moving, close-quarters play could turn into a goal--the defensemen were seemingly helpless against the play. (Now it's more obvious. ) It's unusual that a two-on-two comes straight down the slot rather than being spread out horizontally.
  15. During the live telecast, when I was watching replays of the first goal in the championship game, I saw Smaby get his skate pulled out from under him by Jeff Drummond just before Drummond scored. In watching the recording at home, I wanted to see how Drummond got there, and to my surprise, he was playing lead blocker the whole way into the zone. Like I mention in the gallery intro, this is not sour grapes. I just find it interesting. The better I understand the game, the more of this kind of thing I see. I also note that none of the Sioux petitioned the ref for a call after the play finished, presumably meaning they didn't feel greatly wronged. http://siouxsports.com/hockey/galleries/59.htm Thoughts?
  16. I can't go to this FF, but please contact me. email: flyvm9502-at-sneakemail.com
  17. Okay, here's my Siouxsports.com discount (not affiliated with Siouxsports.com): $499 and a "Go Sioux" e-mail for my four packages. Sec 303, Row N. Contact me at flyvm9502@sneakemail.com, I live in Fargo. Kirk
  18. Sure enough, committing myself in a way that I can't go to the Frozen Four may have contributed to the Sioux kicking butt these last few weeks. It would be good to at least put a Sioux fan in my seats. I'm looking to sell my four Frozen Four ticket packages for face value, first come, first served. Sec 303 Row N. I'll also entertain offers for just two of the seats. Contact me at flyvm9502@sneakemail.com.
  19. My first instinct after finding this thread was that I feel bringing up the conviction (esp. since he was 16) is unnecessarily dragging GP through the mud. I still feel that way after reading through the discussion. Take that statement separately as I'm going more on a limb now, for those who feel it's relevant: I know nothing about the conviction beyond what's in the linked article that kicked off this thread, but to me it sounds like it could be a date rape. Date rape is a very serious crime, but most of you are acting like it's unheard of among college hockey players. (...it getting reported is pretty rare.)
  20. The pictures are IN: http://siouxsports.com/hockey/galleries/58.htm Somehow, photos of us hacks do not turn out as exciting as photos of scholarship players. Thanks to all for a fun game.
  21. I played last year (I remember being badly outnumbered last year) and would like to again. Sorry that I didn't see this thread last month. I would also need a ride for my hockey bag and me back to Fargo, as my carpool mates can't wait for this game. Also, my offer is open again to get some pictures onto Siouxsports.com if you provide 'em. (Ooh, like a real game!) Please let me know whether I'm in and whether anybody can be my ride. You can e-mail me at flyvm9502@sneakemail.com until 5pm Wednesday.
  22. If the Senior Big Games statistic is worthy of a wow, then doing the same exercise with the sophomores should reveal that games where they score two or more will result in a very disappointing record. Senior Big Games: 10-1-0 (Seniors are eight skaters who make up 34% of team goal-scoring) Sophomore Big Games: 6-2-1 (Sophs are seven skaters who make up 30% of team goal-scoring) Of course we're going to get a nice-looking record: You're looking only using games where a specific group of eight skaters scored two goals, meaning that most games where the team scored exactly two goals are also being thrown out. (Sioux are 2-5-2 when they score exactly two.) The average number of goals in the Sophomore Big Games is 3.67. Yeah, 10-1-0 is better than 6-2-1, but they're not that dissimilar; choose your own reaction but this exercise tempers my amazement. Any time you take a chunk of eight skaters who total 1/3 of the goals on a .500 team, you're going to get a record that is significantly over .500. What the hell, let's try it on Duluth: UMD Senior Big Games: 13-3-3 (Senior class is 11 skaters who make up 63% of team goal-scoring) UMD JR-SO Big Games: 4-2-0 (JR-SO classes are seven skaters who make up 25% of team goal-scoring)
  23. $789 each sounded pricey, so I did a quick comparison shop at Oribtz and Travelocity because I was curious. If a group were to split it four ways, they could fly Thursday and SUNDAY ($536), stay THREE nights in a room at the same Holiday Inn and get a Taurus rental for a total of $632 each. This is more than I expected, but Flytheralph wants $789. That leaves the group with $157 each to buy game tickets, a lobster bake, and a souvenir windjacket. If they're going to charter a flight and shoot for group-type discounts (renting a bus has to be cheaper than each of us renting a car), they need to make the price competitive.
  24. Just to connect the stories of Jim and forecheck: I think I stayed at Coyote Ugly about 30 minutes after Jim left, and ran into forecheck on my way out. Sorry, forecheck, I wished later that I had hung around a bit more after running into you again. At the time, I was pretty lit and fleeing from the birthday girl.
