I'm as mad as anyone right now, but couldn't the ass whopping against NDSU (who beat Notre Dame and is projected to be as high as a 12 seed in the tournament) earlier this year count for one of these?

May seem weird after yesterday, but I agree with Mafia on this one. (Huh?) As much as I'd like to see Hak go, he's a very nice guy. Not sure how people would think he's a jerk or any other negative thing. A coach that needs to go? Yep..in my opinion it's time for a change. A bad guy? No way. I've had a beer with him on multiple occasions at the Final 5. He and Eades were always at McGoverns after the Chips we won and he was ALWAYS winning to chat over a beer with the fans. He's also said hello to my boys and took a pic with them after a game in St. Cloud 2 years ago. And that was after a loss. Hak seems to me a very, very nice guy who is pleasant to interact with. He's also been very forthright and pleasant during the pre-season media days we go to at the REA when we pick up our season tickets. So no, Hak is not a "jerk", "dick", or anything like that. At least not in my opinion.

You don't think of yourself as a "Kool-Aid drinker"? You need to take a harder look in the mirror than. You chastise ANYONE who "dares" say Hakstol isn't as good of a coach as so many on this forum make him out to be. You come up with excuse after excuse after excuse for the reasons we are on year 14 without a National title and a decade of those years under the God-Hakstol's watch. I believe you just said something after the Denver game along the lines of, "Geez we lose ONE game in our last 12 and everyone flips out". Let me explain the rationale of people (or at least me..lol) "flipping out" over lthat or last Sat's game. 1. Sure it was our first/second loss in quite some time (Nov 29th to be exact if we aren't counting the Canada trip), but it's ridiculous that we have to go on such big runs every damn year JUST to get into the tournament. If we didn't start out like crap year after year after year we wouldn't need these "miraculous runs" just to make the tournmanet and fans wouldn't get so upset when we lose for only the 2nd time in 12-14 games. But when we DO NEED every single game in January and February because Hak can't get the boys to come out of the gates READY each year, yeah....fans are going to treat these games as more important than the others, because...they indeed ARE more important now that we are on life support. 2. A fan like me (Have had season tix since 05, but have been going to games my entire life) gets PISSED when we don't WIN. I EXPECT nothing but the BEST from this program. And you know what? That doesn't make me any less of a fan than it does you who SEEMS like your just happy to have a team that can "compete" every year. You've made statements in the past like, "would you rather be a fan of Duluth, or SCSU, or etc, etc"? Call me crazy, but YES I'd switch spots with Duluth right now if it meant I could trade their last 10 years for ours. You see...I am a fan(atic) because I like to see my team win TITLES. So If I'm choosing between wanting my team to win ONE TITLE in the last decade and 9 other years of so-so hockey vs a team who "competes" every year but comes up short time and time and time again, I'm going to want my team to win the TITLE. You know..the "ultimate prize"? Now being as smart alecky as you tend to be on here Mafia Man, I'm sure your response to that would be, "cheer for UMD than". And if that's the case (and it probably is) you're missing the entire point and it's not hard to see why. 3. I'm not trying to be over the top obnoxious like some can be on here when we lose, or about Hak. However, I'd say a guy like gfhockey DOES make some good points sandwiched in between some of his dramatic exaggerations. Why ISN'T Hakstol held accountable for our program's success or lack thereof? He makes MORE money than Craig Bohl did for god sakes and we all know how bad NDSU's "flag ship program" is out performing ours. So with the Messiah coaching the hockey team for the last decade and having nothing but a McNaughton or two and some Broadmoors to show for it, why WOULDN'T people start wanting the program to explore a change on the bench? The last few years I have wanted it, but haven't been too crazy advocating it because there hasn't been much out there that I thought could do better than Hak is. However, that's not really the case any more. I think GWOZ could do just as good if not better than Hak is right now, I think Eades could as well. So...I don't see why Hak is as protected when it comes to "absurd" fans wanting more out of his teams and from himself as well. 4. With our chances of an at large Pairwise bid almost completely gone, and to be forced to have to win our conference tourney just to make it in, yes, fans are going to over react a bit to any losses in the next few games. So prepare yourself and if you don't like it, don't log on that day. But to act so much "holier than thou" like you do after every post from someone who doesn't worship Hak and DARES suggest a coaching change is just you being an ass. 5. For some fans, the thought is UND Hockey should be the GOLD STANDARD of programs. We have a rich history, the finest facility, arguably the best pipe line of talent over the last 15 years, and we SHOULD HAVE the best coach as it SHOULD be the most coveted coaching position in college hockey. So with all of that being said, why would we NOT "DEMAND" success from our team and coaching staff? I'm sorry, but if EXPECTING a National Title(especially with the Parise, Bochenski, Greene/ Duncan, Oshie, Toews/ Frattin, Malone, Trupp teams) once in 14 years is too much to ask, than I guess I'm not the best "fan". Which is weird because I've spent THOUSANDS on this team, a lot of time, have choked up over this team (both in the good (97) and bad (2009/2010)), and want NOTHING MORE than to see it at the top once again.

With the teams that have skated through the Ralph the last decade, there is absolutely no excuse Hakstol shouldn't have a NC. NONE. And if you want to make excuse after excuse for him and throw out idiotic lines like that one Goon...just keep that head buried in the sand pal. Keep in buried in the sand.

Not sure how you can make such a strong statement as "simply wrong" man. While, I don't share the same feelings of "catastrophe" that some did on here when we tied, we did piss away an opportunity. If SCSU loses tonight and we win, I know I'll for sure have last weekends HOME GAME vs a team that has FIVE wins all year in conf play stuck in my head for a couple of days. But like others have said, throughout a year a lot of teams "piss away pts", but that still doesn't change the fact that we did last Sat and it MAY prove to be costly depending on what happens tonight. But, my opinion is just as "right" as yours and others and yours is just as "right" as mine. At the end of the day it's a message board and we'll have a lot of differing opinions. That's what makes it fun!

True, but the way they gave up that MN game and settled for a tie, doesn't happen all too often. And you're right...hell, we just got outplayed tonight pretty bad and still won, so obviously it does work both ways.

The most frustrating thing is that as good as we've played, we still have left some pts on the table. How we gave up Sat's game to MN is still boggling my mind. And as "hot" of a topic as it's been on here all week, even you that have the "so green you can't see out of them" shades on have to admit that we need to sweep a team that's at the bottom of the league when we are at HOME. Regardless of how hard they play, the doomsdayers are right in the regard that BSU is a horrible team. Just those 2 pts would give us a share of the title regardless of how clown does tom. Oh well, cheers for win tonight when we prob didn't deserve one. Good teams find a way though!

Question... Why did we clinch home ice last week and MN didn't? We have the same amount of pts. Is it because they had one more loss than we did? (But had 1 more win too) If we both win tom, who gets the 2 seed? I would have thought MN does because they beat us H2H. Any help would be great, not sure why I don't know that. GO SIOUX!

From the way you were going on about it all game long Wilbur, I'd say he has a point with the "foot in mouth" thing...lol. Ahhh, we ALL want the Sioux to do the very best they can. Everyone has opinions. Hopefully we can win tom, and SCSU and UM lose. I'll take a tie with Clown for the title. As much as people were handing over the trophy to MN in the preseason, I'd love to see them lose out on the last M Cup ever.

Apparently, some teams can't even if they are in the tournament. It's been 13 years since a title...I think you can put a lid on the "step back from the ledge and refocus" garb. You don't need to act so "high and mighty" just because some people have different measures of what "success" is than you do.

In a HEARTBEAT I would. National titles are what success is measured by at UND. Plain and simple. Especially since I liked the Trupp, Frattin, Malone team more than the Duncan, Oshie, Toews team. The Trupp, Frattin, Malone team is my favorite team of all time in the 15-20 years I've "passionately" watched (went to a few games as a kid, but didn't really start getting "passionate about them till around my Jr-Sr. year of h.s. in 96-97) this team and that includes the 97 team that won it all when I was really getting into hockey. Seniors that stayed for the duration of their careers and who laid it all out on the ice every single game they played. That is why the Mich loss STILL hurts. Still hurts.

I would assume everyone on this site does. The fact that losing sickens some the way it does, obviously proves that. If they didn't "bleed green black and white", I doubt they'd care as much. JMO.

Agreed. It is a little "intense", but the OP makes some pretty valid points. I for one am not satisfied that our last title was so long ago. We expect/demand better than that around here, and I would think any reasonable fan would feel the same way. A title once a decade isn't too much to "expect". Hopefully this year is the year we get it done. Although I'm not sure the mentality is there for a Championship type team. I think it's evidenced by the way we so often let up a goal just a few seconds or a minute after we score one. This team doesn't seem to have that "killer instinct", but I don't get paid to coach hockey..so it's just an opinion. We'll see how it goes. Ya just never know.
