    8.    Dead Gophers
An old University of North Dakota tradition. Fans would take frozen, dead gophers (how they got them in is beyond us) and toss them onto the ice after goals when UND played the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Gophers are not the only dead animal to hit the ice at REA.  And in the old barn, once someone tossed out a live goose.  It was a while before the ref's restored order.

  2. Coach's comments:

    Execution:  Sloppy

    Slow...no pace.

2nd was better, and first two shifts of third.

PP was not as effective as it needed to be.

    Tough game to watch.

Too many turnovers.  Need to be sharper tomorrow.

Had good battle in the second, late, and in the early third.  Need to adjust, learn from tonight.  Toninato line was better than Jost/Boeser line.

Need to be a North bound team tomorrow night.  Get in their end of the rink and stay there.

It was a blocked shot that went right to a Gopher stick and was shoved toward the goal. I think they were both still playing,  just an I'll timed lucky bounce

Think it was more is fans quit watching thinking it was ot. Even after it went in I thought we were headed to ot.

And don't forget the blown call at 1.2 sec left, stick to Rocco's face.  The whistle blows, we go to OT.  Rocco doesn't get high-sticked, he can defend the shot and there's little chance of a goal.  Watch the replay...

And yet, it's ancient history.  Union made meat pies out of the Gophers.  And I enjoyed that, at any rate.  :-)

Two completely different types of defensemen. I disagree about LaDue being just like the other D-men. I thought that he looked NHL-ready all season. I wondered if there might be a chance he came back for an opportunity to start his NHL career on his own terms. It would be incredible to have him back for a run at #9!

It would be incredible to have him back.  He made a diving backcheck that saved a possible goal in the final, and then laid down that tape to tape 100' pass right on Boeser's stick that led to goal #4.  If he's not ready for the NHL, I may need glasses, but I'd sure love to see him in Green next year.  That would be a major blue-line bonus.

If you listen to the great hockey minds, they're head to the Big Ten. We'll see.

I agree with you.  B1G makes all the sense in the world for that program when you think about it.  Their alumni can get behind a team playing Michigan and Penn State...but Ferris State and Fairbanks?  Not so much.

  6. The very best to Troy Stecher who has worked his @ss off for every thing he's earned, and helped his team to many victories, conference championships, NCAA Regional victories, and a National Championship.  No doubt he will succeed in whatever challenge is set before him, for he knows the value of expending the effort now and how that pays off down the road.  Once a Sioux, always a Sioux, always a member of the family.  Stop back and see us at REA sometime Mr. Stecher!  Meanwhile, go tear up the Western Conference!.

I think that Dubay is one of those Ellis Island names that immigrants received when the INS officers found !@#!$! either too long or improper to assign to a new American family.

    Your opinion may differ.

If you want to see how a real he-man coach handles his team when he wants to send a message to the opposite coach, just ask yourself who locked himself in the bathroom for 20 minutes in St. Cloud one evening.
