Omaha would buy that deal out, plus Omaha has more to offer then Mankato.

I was thinking Guentzel would be hopping up and down yelling "pick me, pick me, get me outta here."  But, maybe Jutting's replacement in 'Kato would be better to lead Jutting into the next era at UNO.  Hmm...wait...doubt Jutting would sit for that.  Well....maybe they would take Hastings anyway.

  2. Sad news.

    Scott Dub has passed away.

    http://bismarcktribune.com/news/obituaries/scott-dub/article_5da71cba-b268-5ac9-86d5-173f64700a0b.html

I lived next to Scott my freshmen year in Smith Hall which at the time was known as the basketball dorm. Had Dub on one side and Pete Stewart on the other.

He exemplified  UND hockey. He was a walk-on who turned into a pretty decent hockey player. He was a high energy, drain the tank every shift guy, a pest and agitator who was pretty nasty to play against and was also capable of scoring as well. He was one of the best penalty killers to play at UND in my opinion.

Good guy off the ice, always laughing and looking for a prank to play on someone. Ran into him a few times over the years, usually at softball tournaments.

    Gone far too soon.

Very sad to hear that.  As you said, he left it on the ice every shift.  He played each game like he hadn't made the team yet.

    Great memories.

    Condolences to the Dub family.

  3. Really?  I have a hard time even reading those words.  Most of his assists were THE play that made the goal happen.

There's no doubt goaltending was poorer then, and as a result scoring higher, but you can't really compare eras.  I do know Hrkac made more opponents look silly than anyone I've ever seen.  That oughtta count for something.

I wouldn't say the goaltending was poorer, but I get what you mean.  The equipment was different (smaller pads and trapper).  Goalies themselves were also generally smaller (the 6'3 goalies weren't common).  As a result, there was more open net to defend (and shoot at) and scoring was a little easier.  Though now you can make the argument that composite sticks give shooters an advantage they didn't have back in the eighties, but I think the open net area argument holds better.

And yeah, for as many goals as Hrkac had, he was THE setup man laying that biscuit on the stick of Bob Joyce just moments before it was in the net.  Those two were fun to watch together.

  4. Man, who would have  thought they'd go up to Duluth and get two shutouts.

Did NOT AT ALL expect that.  Cam is playing solid right now...that puck looks like a beach ball and the net is the size of a minnow scoop.

I'm just enjoying it while it's here.  The first half of this season has been absolutely FUN to watch.

Let's welcome Alabama Huntsville to town with another pair of goose eggs.  :-)

    Way to go SIOUX!!!

  5. Sandelin must be fine with putting a dirty team on the ice. I really started noticing that last year.

There's at least a half dozen players there that must practice their "cross-checks to the back after the whistle".  They're fairly proficient at it.

Sandelin wants to win, whatever it takes.  His teams won't spear, but there's not much else that's off the menu.

  6. I was really surprised by the UMD crowd. Lots of empty seats , they weren't very vocal or into the game and an overall lack of atmosphere. Really a shame for a team that good.

UND had a great turnout with lots of green evident in the stands and the bars.

That is a fickle crowd, for sure.  Some nights that arena fills up, other nights you think it's a DIII school arena.  The students are usually a pretty rowdy crowd, and the band does a decent job.

I was surprised at the ice last night.  It looked as soft as a slushie.  I could almost see Scotty having his team practice on soft ice all week just to take a visiting team off their game on Friday night.  Hope to see a faster game tonight.

For a while last night our blueliners were clicking and keeping UMD out of our zone entirely, but the Dogs found a way through after a few minutes and started getting shots again.  All forwards and blue liners blocked a ton of shots last night.  Really gives Cam a reason to stay calm and play big.

    Looking for the sweep tonight!

    GO SIOUX!!!

  7. @beersong is a real a**hole as well... For years at the Final Five I had a large group of Duluth fans sitting behind me on the eastside upper deck. These guys all wore the same tees that said F**k Sioux Sioux and were chanting racist stuff the entire tournament. Really brought my respect for the Duluth fanbase down as well. I know not every Duluth fan is like this but these guys made me sick.

I have sat near a similar crew at the DECC a couple times.  Need some chlorine in that gene pool.

  8. As good as the CBS line is so far, what about the goal tending? Who'd thought?

The goalies have been standing their ground, for sure.  That said, this team has "bought in" and is blocking a LOT of shots in front of those goalies.  The shot blocking and defense (a group of studs) are HUGE reasons that the netminders have had a good record.  Back to my opening lead though, the times when goalies have had to be solid, they have been solid for the most part.  Wisco friday night and JBSU saturday night are the lone two exceptions.

  9. When is the last time UND has had a class with four defensemen like Ausmus, Stecher, LaDue, and Thompson?

Maybe that one week, mid summer 1981 before Chelios changed his mind and they had James Patrick already coming in. I think Ludwig and Zombo were also on the blue line.  And that Whitsitt guy...but no, Chelios decided that Wisco was the place to be.

    (and it didn't matter).

  10. Wow, Boeser has some hands.

I've been waiting for a sniper like that for years.  Crazy good shot.

Three solid points against a good DU team.  They will show up tomorrow, plus a leading scorer, so we need to come ready to play.

Congrats to Pogo for tipping one in...it's good to see his efforts pay off.

And that's the way it is.  CBS.

  11. Seeler got an extra game from the B1G, Seeler is a garbage player that the only thing he can do is hit.

    Classless hockey, to be sure.

Surprising to me that St.Cloud didn't empty the bench after that.  A hit like that often draws a stronger reaction from ones teammates.

Either Motzko has his team extremely well disciplined, or they don't have that team spirit in St Cloud (by the looks of it).
