  1. I left for work with USA up (and rolling) 2-0 after two.  This loss is shocking.   It's conceivable that they may not win a game in South Korea.

It caught me off guard to hear Pierre McGuire say that "he wouldn't be surprised if any of the college guys left to go pro after the Olympics."  I doubt Terry would go but Greenway and Denato's teams are on the NCAA Bubble so I guess that makes a little bit of sense if they were to bolt.

  2. Randklev with another huge night for the Moorhead Spuds, making Bemidji kids look silly.   He is behind in size but he is skilled and smart.  His future development will be interesting.

should come down to Moorhead and Brainerd for Section 8AA trip to state.

  3. Brad and Dane need to invite Blaiser over for some late night film sessions breaking down ways to exploit some of these guys.

UND’s top lines had a field day in the 7-0 win at home in January vs. the Red Cows.  It was pretty similar to what we saw in the final period last Saturday, in fact.

Realistically, it’s hard not to call a split.  If this team truly is a NCAA Tournament contender, I think the sweep could (should) could come the following weekend in Miami.

Perfect time for UND to break their five game winless streak.

Ish, when you put it like that.  January 12th in Bemidji was the last win.  FOUR. WEEKS. AGO.

The schedule is favorable for UND to move up. 3 teams at the bottom of the league and at home to close with SCSU, who isn’t as strong of a road team as they are at home. I am cautiously optimistic.

UMD is off this week so perfect time to move ahead.

From your lips to God's ears.  I love it when I'm wrong when it benefits my team.  If the projection above stands, UND could be playing CC for the FOURTH time in FIVE years in the 1st round of the NCHC Tournament.

My guess on how the final standings will look.

    Final NCHC Standings

    Team GP Pts
    Denver 24 49
    SCSU 24 48
    UND 24 40
    UMD 24 39
    Western Michigan 24 36
    CC 24 28
    Nebraska-Omaha 24 28
    Miami 24 20

I hope you are right but I'm thinking UND sits at #4 and gets #5 Western in the first round.  Duluth's setback last weekend won't happen every week and until UND can prove it can sweep some series, it's hard to predict they will have those type of results.

  7. With this team, you have to figure on a win and a tie.  5-2 Friday and 1-1 Saturday - hopefully earning the extra point in silly-hockey time.

But man if we ever needed a stick salute weekend, this is it.

  8. It’s North Drawkota Hockey this year as the team ties for the eighth time this season.  No D1 program in the nation has more ties than UND (Holy Cross has seven).

I know draws against “better” teams can help when it comes to the Pairwise but I wonder if this is how this team is built or if it purely coincidental.  If it’s the former, might we be in for some 2ot games in the NCHC Playoffs and potetntially regionals?

  9. It will be neat to watch him and Chay in the Olympics.  Great honors for the UND program!

I'm assuming he will miss six games if they advance to Medal Rounds?  Missing the CC, atOmaha, atMiami series'?

I suspect by winning their conference tournament. (The assumption for these brackets is whoever is leading their conference will win the auto-bid)

But of course - I was thinking Providence was the Hockey East auto-bid because they are higher in PW.   I see BC is actually leading in the standings at this point in time.

  11. I love the Denver series at home - probably my favorite one on the annual calendar.  There is a great energy/buzz, particularly from the student section (pun intended) and when these two face off in January/February when the games mean more, there is simply nothing like it.  I hate DU but I respect their program.  For me, they are the only one who has earned elite status in the NCHC along with North Dakota.

When the Rusty sweaters hit the ice the intensity escalates.  So often these games result in a 1-0 win or a 2-1 outcome, forcing you to watch every moment of the game intently.  I miss Gwoz, Alanna Rizzo, and some of the fisticuffs that I remember in the late 2000's from this series but things were reignited during the 2016 season and it certainly took off again with a hard-fought win in the NCHC Semis last year and the great UND comeback in November at Magness.

Gaillet will be a big challenge and DU's roster has some very solid talent but I can't help but think UND will (hell they must) respond with their backs to the wall this weekend, hopefully starting a streak (6-4 the rest of the regular season!?).  A sweep will be very tough against this quality team but I hope when I'm there Friday night I will feel that same energy and watch UND earn a disciplined, low-scoring, win.
