  1. AA problems probably won't affect too many Sioux fans unless traveling from LAX, ORD,JFK or DFW. For today, looks like 2 of 3 flights cancelled from ORD. 5 of 6 from DFW. 1 of 1 from LAX, and 1 of 1 from JFK. Good thing DEN is't a hub for AA, or it would really be ugly.

It would affect people flying on AA from anywhere. If a flight from ORD or DFW is cancelled that means where ever that plane was going is the return flight is now cancelled also. Say a flight was going from ORD to LAS then the flight from LAS to ORD is cancelled also. IT WAS UGLY for well over 100,000 passengers. If the hub is not flying neither are the spokes. What was it you were trying to say?

  2. Who cares what that majority thinks! They don't call them the "ignorant masses" for nothing.

Everyone who has been on this board for the past 5 years know that all "true" Native Americans are against the nickname. All those who do not care or are supportive of the nickname have lost their heritage or worse, "hang around the fort indians."

This board is made up of the "IGNORANT masses".

  3. A majority of african americans said it was okay to have slaves? I didn't know that. You learn something new every day.

I did know, however, that a majority of american indians have said that it is okay for sports teams to use names and logos such as UND's. Even those in North Dakota.

Why do you only capitalize UND and North Dakota and not African-Americans or Native Americans? Are they not as worthy?

Source your arguement. African-Americans were not considered human so their opinion would not have counted.

  5. Just tell your son that if you complain and are in the total minority you can get your way. There is no majority rule when it comes to PC. Those people should be on a deserted island somewhere where they can just bitch to each other and no one would care.

The majority also said it was ok to have slaves.

  6. Please explain to me why we have to get rid of our names cause the natives say its offensive but yet watching the ND class B tourney and seeing the Four Winds INDIANS?:D Double standard? Where were the protesters? Oh but Cleveland can't be the Indians.

Is this logo acceptable to the Native American people? Maybe the Sioux should change their name to the Indians and have this logo?? Works for Four Winds

If you cannot figure that out for yourself you need to turn your hood around so the eyeholes are in the front. A good new name for the UND teams would be the Fighting Racists or the Fighting Klan.

  7. The PC crowd is a crowd that controls the rest of us. It consists of probably 10 to 15% of the peoople, it has power through pity. To say that the Sioux name hasn't been respected is so far from the truth. I have been around the Sioux name since around 1968, as a kid the Fighting Sioux was my team and still is to this day.

The logo is important to me today because it's important to my 6 year old son. He can't figure out why people want to get rid of the name...I just told him "don't feel like the lone ranger, the world you're coming into is a lot different than I was fortunate enough to grow up in(1960's)".

It would appear that you then are not doing a good job of educating your son. Where does this 10-15% come from or did you just make that up? If this is your version of respect I would hate to see what you consider offensive. Are the black helicopters circling your house? That grand conspiracy of the PC crowd. I would love to drop of many of you in the hood, barrio, or on a reservation and then watch you talk smack there. Your yellow stripes would glow quite brightly.

  8. What exactly is the PC crowd? People who think about others and not only their own self gratification? Or people whose only real concern in life is how a sports team is doing? Or the people who do not worship a bunch of kids like idols because they can lace up a pair of hockey skates and win games so that they can attach themselves to the victory train and feel good about themselves? I would rather belong to the first option than the other options. The Grabba Thighs have no excuse for what they did. Their only regret is that they got caught. "It was suppose to be a "cowboy" party." Yeah and I love you, the checks in the mail. These kids knew what they were doing and were arrogant enough to think that it did not matter. Why is it so important that this logo is kept anyhow? As Durkheim wrote society is a living organism and changes with time. Only the people who are unable or willing to change with the times would think that a logo would not offend anyone. Some of you that post here should turn the hoods around, the eyeholes go in the front. Maybe we should just send the Native Americans back where they came from.

  9. I-43 (runs north-south along eastern Wisconsin between like Green Bay and Milwaukee) is full of FIBS in the summer time. I hate them for all the garbage they throw out the window and how stupid they drive with their boats. I don't mind a fast driver, but be a good fast driver at least. Wisconsin does need to up the speed limit to 75 though. After going through North Dakota, then Minnesota, 65 mph is like crawling.

FIBs remind me of people from the Twin Cities.

  10. From DeMers and I-29 to Gilman and State St. it is 582 miles and takes just under 8:30 hours. If I am not mistaken speed limit in Wisc. is still 65MPH, unless you have Illinois plates then it is 80MPH. Watch where you park around the whole campus area. It is all permit parking.

  11. Just got home.

Left at 9am estimating a 12 noon arrival into St. Paul, but got there at 1 due to snow storm, had to drive 45mph much of the way. Head to McGoverns for a few cold ones with a couple buddies of mine. These guys are mostly Badger fans, but one has a hint of Gopher in him, having played junior hockey in the cities. Get to the game at 2, and you pretty much know the rest of the story. The game was pretty flat for the most part, hate to say, even boring at times. I'm no hockey mind, but after watching the goofs/CC game, it just seems like our passes aren't to the level that UM and CC's are. Even my buddies commented that these two teams (CC/UM) seem like they are in a different leage than UND and DU. Something just wasn't clicking today. I hope it's "the flu" again, but that's been hanging around like 2 months? :glare: Anyway, we don't stand a chance against CC if we bring that team today. During the goofs game, a young Sioux fan(20ish) was passed out in our section, and his buddies wrote stuff on his face (DENVER, I believe) and hung tampons on him. EMT's even showed up, fans were laughing, and plenty of videos were rolling (including mine), so expect a youtube video in the future.

I was hoping for a CC win tonight, so we could face the Goofs tomorrow, but that's not happening. I have a bad feeling about CC, and I think we are going to get lit up, 5-1. I hope I'm wrong.

Did your buddy play for the Vulcans?

  12. If you have ever met Dave Hakstol, you would also know it is sincere. He's a great guy. He's passionate about the game, but he understands what it is all about. He has tremendous respect for the game and the players. He may be a fierce rival of the Gophers, but he has an enormous amount of respect for the program and all of the young men that don the jersey or the jersey of any college hockey team.

Please continue to give us updates on Tom Pohl. If anyone knows where cards or letters can be sent to his family, please post it. I can speak for many Sioux fans and say that we are very concerned about Tom Pohl. These type of incidents put everything into perspective, whether it is Travis Roy, Robbie Bina or Tom Pohl.

I see he has you fooled also. Bubba is a lot nicer guy, when he was here. Whose Bubba?

  13. So, are UND students included in GF's population for census purposes, govt funding, etc.? If so, then they should be able to vote accordingly, regardless if they can "Name that politician". If not, then no and GF can watch its own population shrink accordingly.

    /Cake ... eating it ...

Actually Grand Forks has been growing while the student body has been shrinking. No one has ever answered if Grand Forks should have a vote in student elections.

  14. if naming the city council is the barometer of being able to vote, i suggest we have a quiz at all polling stations before anyone is allowed to vote.

    What is your prediction

    15% tops.

Knowing who is even on the council shows that they have an interest in city affairs. I would say a lot more of the voters than 15% would know who is on the council. I would guess closer to 75% would know.

  15. I find it absolutely absurd when someone tries to tell me they want to deny me a right that is sort of given to me by the Constitution of the United States of America. If you say students shouldn't be allowed to vote, you are classifying us all into one group. Not everyone goes home for the summer. Grand Forks is the place I call home and I live here a good 350 our of 365 days a year, and I think that is true of a lot of students. I have a MN license because, as i learned today, it is a BITCH to switch over. I voted in the last mid-term election, and I voted in the presidential primaries, and you can bet I'll be voting in the local elections also.

Name the city council members without looking it up. Then can local citizens vote in student elections? Should the students have their own council member which has been advocated by students? Are you going to be here in two years even? I don't get to vote in a county that I pay property taxes in because I don't live in that county though I have a vested interest in it.
