  1. Nacogdoches is located in the piney woods of east Texas...you're thinking of west Texas.
  2. My pleasure... Good luck to you guys as well...I'm a Sioux fan for the rest of the year!!
  3. SE Lousiana/North Dakota highlights from our weekly coaches TV show... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjnfH4B9408 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s581gHbk8p0
  4. Actually, we defensed Mississippi State pretty well...they just had the ball forever and ran twice as many plays...we wore down in the second half with those 240 pound tailbacks pounding at us...had our starting QB played, I'm pretty convinced it would have been a 17-10, 24-17 type of game because we had WRs wide open all night...our 5-9 backup kept getting the ball batted down at the line of scrimmage...probably should have played our Baylor transfer more, who led us to our only TD...but he got here right before camp started and was still learning the offense...he's actually more talented than our starter. North Dakota has a much better passing game than Mississippi State...MSU has better WRs but both QBs are horrible...Danny Freund would EASILY start for them and would make them a much more dangerous offense...you guys could score on a lot of people.
  5. Apparently some voters were more impressed with North Dakota losing to us than they were us beating North Dakota...polls never cease to amaze me.
  6. Has nothing to do with being afraid to play anyone...it's a logistical situation in terms of balancing home and road games and not having the budget to take two plane flights to play FCS schools in the same year...the South Dakota home/home was scheduled first the way I understand it...I'd love to see us work something out in the future.
  7. Congratulations to two outstanding football players...it wasn't fun at the time, but in retrospect, it was joy to watch them both play!!!
  8. From the pressbox, it appeared just short and left...but our sideline reporter was right behind the goal post and said it was inches left and would probably been good had it been online.
  9. Appreciate it...we're getting there...it's obvious North Dakota has a tremendous football program and we hope to reach that level in the near future...thing that impressed me more than anything was the calm demeanor you guys showed down 38-21...you were still running your offense and didn't let the scoreboard dictate anything...often times, you'll see teams panic and start flinging it on every down and end up getting blown out...you guys stayed patient which is a sign of an extremely well-coached and disciplined football team.
  10. Appreciate the vote of confidence...McNeese is still pretty loaded but we do get them at home...plus we've matched up well with them over the years, except for last year...Sam Houston and UCA are both loaded offensively...we just have to get healthy...we've been in five consecutive, very physical ballgames and are missing several starters and contributors...played without two starting D-linemen tonight, including our best pass rusher...our starting running back is banged up and can barely run though he's giving it a go...missing two offensive linemen, including a starter, and had third go down tonight...we've been playing all year without our best WR and it looks like he's decided to go ahead and take a medical redshirt...I've never seen anything like it...I know you guys were are banged up as well, especially losing a starting O-linemen earlier this week...but that's life in D-I football...nobody feel's sorry for anyone...put the next guy in and let 'er rip!!!
  11. The intentional grounding call was obvious to everybody in the stadium except the referee, because he's watching for holding and hits on the QB...with the QB out of the pocket, the ball has to cross the line of scrimmage on a throw-away and it came up about four or five yards short...should have had another grounding call earlier in the game but didn't get a call...as for the Sioux program, I'd say they're very good hands...very well-coached football team, which we all knew coming in.
  12. Just wanted to stop in and say the Fighting Sioux have a good football team and fought hard tonight...at the end, I had visions of our game with Central Arkansas last year, and thought we might cough up another one in the last seconds, but I guess '08 is a different year for the Lions...good luck...I'll be a Sioux fan the rest of the way!!!
  13. Well, it should be a great night for football weather-wise...temps in 70's during the game with low humidity, blue skies and light winds...expect a hard-fought, physical football game.
  14. You know, come to think of it, I haven't seen any excuses from North Dakota fans... dmksioux Dagger UND92,96 on AGS board. bincitysioux bincitysioux quote on the Lions Den. Stromer, from AGS board.
  15. I don't recall saying anything similar on AGS about La Tech or Alcorn...those were three separate games with three different sets of circumstances...not sure what you meant by that comment.
  16. My bad...my comprehension level is substandard this time of year...it's football season after all.
  17. We did lose 4 of 5 starters from last year's O-line, but we're WAY BETTER up front this year than last...not even close...the reason our rushing numbers are "not there" is pretty simple...our opponents are loading up the line of scrimmage to stop Jay Lucas...fortunately, we're more equipped to spread it out and throw it and have had great success doing so...eventually teams are going to have to back their safeties up and I'm sure we'll adjust accordingly...of course we've also faced two very good FBS run defenses in Miss State and La Tech. It's funny because we had this same discussion last year with Central Arkansas fans...we had never played them and their fans kept going by our stats, saying we can't run the ball or stop the run...well, we rushed for 294 yards and held them to 41 yards...football is all about match-ups and it changes week to week.
  18. Well, I wouldn't make you a clear underdog under any circumstances, but our game with USD shouldn't have been anywhere near that close...taking nothing away from them, they had a great QB who was a playmaker, and had an excellent game plan, but we should have scored 45 or 50 points...we had penalties that killed drives and had two TDs taken off the board by questionable calls...one of their TD drives was aided by a pass interference which was also questionable...we also played without our best defensive back who makes a big difference in our secondary.
  19. I won't comment on why some folks on AGS are picking us to win, but as far Sagarin goes, I don't know of anyone who puts much stock in his FCS ratings...especially this early in the season...as far as polls, we lost last week and jumped 10 spots in the Sports Network poll...it's all meaningless...it'll be decided on the field.
  20. Newbill has two sacks and seven tackles for loss...not sure why the article listed it that way.
  21. Well, truth be known, we prefer to simply go by "Southeastern" and our administration has discouraged all use of acronyms when it comes to official documents, conversation or use in athletic events...if a news organization needs to use an acronym for space purposes, SLU would be preferred though some, like ESPN, tend to use SELU or SELA to differentiate us from Saint Louis U...SELU is our official web address.
  22. Obviously I'm biased but I thought we should have been at least 4th, but I definitely understand why we were picked 7th...just about everybody in the conference returns their QB plus most of their starters, and we did finish 7th last year...however, we were literally TWO PLAYS from second place, and four of our five conference losses went down to the wire... We dominated Central Arkansas at home but gave up a punt return TD, a safety and didn't make a 4th and one with two minutes to play in the game that would have iced it...not to mention we were up 16-7 just before the half, but fumbled deep in our territory trying to run out the clock...they scored with about 7 seconds left...against Sam Houston, we got stuffed on a 4th and goal from the one-inch line and probably win that game had we made it...also should have beaten NW State and Texas State...McNeese was the only game where we were thoroughly outplayed...when we got to conference play, we routinely played as many as seven true freshmen on defense at one time. We've arguably recruited as well anybody in Southland (and FCS for that matter) the last three years and it's finally starting to show on the field...we're still very young with just 12 seniors and 15 juniors and play a lot of freshmen and sophomores in the two deep...we're probably still a year away from really making a push to win the league but I think we'll make good headway this year...I don't like making guarantees but I feel confident we won't finish 7th.
