This years team is extremely offensively challenged and it doesn't look promising for the rest of the season.
If they can't score they need to play sound defensively and get great goaltending...not even close right now on either of these items.
Can't remember a UND team in the last 15-20 years that had such little offensive skill in the forward lines.
If they want to get an auto berth into the NC$$ they can't afford to lose too many games in the second half. Given that the NCHC is pretty weak their best bet is to win the NCHC tourney. In the other seasons when they started slow you could at least have hope in the second half based on the talent that was on the team...this years team does not have that type of talent (or haven't shown it).
Best chance to make the NCAA tourney is to take advantage of the 2nd half schedule, which I believe they will do.

I expect us to win games against an inferior opponent exhibition or not, regardless of what happened in Wisconsin. I can handle a first half loss to a team like St. Cloud State, Miami, etc but it's a little late in the season to still be looking for whatever this team is missing.
If the team drops two of its next four regular season games against CC & BSU, get back to me. Otherwise, I am not concerned in the least after this exhibition trip to the NW.
-
I wish I shared your positive attitude.
The team will be fine. Haven't even found their grove yet and halfway through the season the team is in the top half of the conference standings with a relatively favorable second half schedule.
Seriously, tonight's loss was AN EXHIBITION GAME!!
-
Big deal...UND couldn't beat UBC in an exhibition tilt. Minny also couldn't beat Colgate tonight, and Bucky couldn't beat Anchorage, and their games actually count.
-
Seriously...enough is enough. Please ban jheria from here. Im done wasting my time reading this immature sh*t!!!! Its the same old bs every f*cking day!
Agreed. There actually was some worthwhile discussion regarding what might transpire with NDSU's incoming players recruited by Bohl. Jheria has completely sidetracked that thread. Ban him.

Played in 84 and coached in 2004.
Wasn't Sandelin head coach in 2005, the year it was held at The Ralph? Also assisted under Blais at the 2012 tournament.
-
87? I was thinking he played on the team that had the big brawl where they turned the lights out. Not sure though. Don't qoute me. Then again for some reason I keep thinking he played in a tourney in Switzerland.
Greg Johnson played in 1991, the year Lindros dominated in Saskatoon.
-
What year did lee play for the Canadian world junior team?
I did forget Greg Johnson.
Brad Berry, Geoff Smith, Jason Herter, Brad Bombardir

That clause in his contract was never going to be enforceable. The timing of Bohl's announcement and the fact that he was allowed to stay throughout the playoffs were both pretty terrible situations for NDSU. If Taylor hadn't been able to convince Klieman to take the job they'd be up !@#$ creek without a coaching staff.
I wonder if the clause is specific to only Bohl and not the assistants that are going with him to Wyoming? So could Vigen, et. al. reach out to the NDSU recruits for Wyoming instead of Bohl?

Schmidt is coming back according to a very good source.
Heard the same thing.

NDSU is, by far, the biggest rip-off artist of the NCAA:
1: Scott Miller's "My oh my" crap was directly pilfered from Dick Engberg's "Oh my!" expression.
2: That dumb saying "The stench of the herd is the Bison and the stench of the Bison is the herd" is a larcenous grab from Rudyard Kipling's The Law of the Jungle.
3: Calling themselves the Thundering Herd is blatant thievery from Marshall University.
4: And of course, the cute little hand signal Bison fans like to display is an egregious affront to the University of Texas' "Hook 'em Horns" display.
That's an awful lot of determined theft by the state's Ag School. Perhaps it explains the Best Buy debacle?
Screw those bastards. In Bubba we trust!

Of course 'bama and UND have something in common:
Both displayed a major gaffe when they didn't play to the whistle in the special teams kicking game at some point during the season.
And one of those gaffes cost a team a chance at a third consecutive national title.

Smash mouth football happens on both sides of the ball.
Absolutely. And that is exactly what NDSU & Alabama do. They design their teams to win the line battles on both sides of the ball and then proceed to build their teams outwardly from there. UND will achieve a great level of success in the Big Sky/FCS if they are able to successfully implement the style of ball Bubba aims to.
-
I am all for the defense-first and ball control approach Bubba will be bringing back to UND. This is the championship recipe, just look at college football's two currently budding dynasties, Alabama and the Ag School. Control the line of scrimmage!

Is Bubba known for his recruiting?
I know some fellas who were recruited by Bubba who don't have many good things to say about our new head coach's recruiting abilities. That being said, the aforementioned recruitments occurred quite awhile ago, so I am not sure how much stock to put into those experiences.
-
The interesting thing about Ted Schlafke's name being thrown about as OC is that despite his relative youth in regard to the position, the recruiting footprint he covers is favorable to UND. He was a fine QB at Minnesota-Duluth, is originally from Wisconsin, and has coached in Montana and Illinois. Additionally, he has very good upper Midwest connections in Nielson, DeBoer, etc.
As far as the DC, I'm assuming it's Schmidt all the way.

UND took 36 days to make a football coach hire. When Alabama canned Shula, they went 38 days before hiring Nick Saban. It would appear as though UND is ahead of the curve?
-
New commitment, Deion Harris of Hibbing, MN.

This long, drawn out process of hiring a new head coach has been a big downer no doubt. And at this point, I don't care which of the two finalists get the job, I'm just excited for a new staff to come in and instill/restore the Fighting Sioux football attitude. Had our previous head coach been retained, I would not have renewed my season tickets. But now, I'm pretty dang excited for the 2014 season. HOKA HEY!

hoffner built Mankato in a short period of time
iw as just ttrying to please the deboer lovers
I think we can get hoffner cheaper then deboer though
150 to bubba
75 to hoffner
65 to Schmidt.
Either gfhockey is on something, or he's onto something...
-
give bubba min of 150k plus incentives....
give deboer 90K plus incentives
Schmidt will get 65k plus incentives.
get it done
I am all about bringing Schmidt aboard as DC, regardless of who the head coach is.

What is the age cutoff for players? Under 20?
Born on Jan 1 1994 or later.
-
Who do they really have their eye on then....because it just seems odd to me to wait all this time and then hire someone they could have a week ago. I have a feeling that he is still trying to talk someone into it. Any read on who that could be?
I'm convinced that the next head coach of UND football has yet to named on this forum. I think Faison has his guy targeted and we will all know who it is a week from tomorrow.

Go go is one that other schools would be pining for. With the SUb par QB performances this year and uncertain future, I would keep a close eye on our relationship with him
He's not going anywhere, he likes where he his.
Time to Fire Dave Hakstol....
