  1. Merry Christmas everyone. As 2015 winds down, 2016 is going to be a big year for Sioux sports...we're going to #hangeight, win the Big Sky FB title, and make a nice run in the FCS playoffs!

IMO, bringing in a scholarship QB once every 2 years is very risky.  Requires all of them to be successful recruits (guys who stick around, stay healthy, and pan out as good D1 QBs), which just isn't going to happen.

Couldn't agree more. And while I fully realize this is a much different level, Alabama's QB recruiting should help illustrate the importance of recruiting AT LEAST one potential starting QB every recruiting cycle. From 2006 to 2015, they've successfully recruited 12 HS senior QBs, of which exactly TWO have, thus far, developed into full-time starters - Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron. The other two starting QB's from 2009-15 have either been recruited at a position other than QB (B. Sims) or transferred in (J. Coker). It's a virtual certainty that their 2016 starter is currently on the roster as a QB (my guess is either Bateman or Barnett), so that ratio can safely be bumped up to 3/12 (technically could be 3/13 as they have an incoming 4*, but the chances of him beating out the current QBs is almost assuredly nil). So 25% of Alabama's recruited QBs since 2006 have developed into full-time starters. Thus far the rest haven't panned out and have either become career backups, quit, or transferred out.

Again, it's a far different level, but I think it illustrates the importance of including at least one QB in every recruiting class who the staff views as a potential legitimate starting QB.

  3. I thought we would of heard something by now. Perhaps next week a hire will be announced.

Purely speculative, but I wonder if Shaw might potentially have an assistant opportunity in Edmonton considering he and Todd McLellan have a strong relationship.

  4. Mark Osiecki anyone?

Mark coached one year (1996-97...a good year!) at UND, has experience at all levels of hockey from USHL to NHL, is a defensive specialist, and is currently an assistant in the AHL....hardly a glorious spot to have landed in after getting snubbed at OSU.

I asked someone plugged in to the Wisco program if Osiecki would be interested in the UND assistant position. I was told no.

  5. Yes.

I'm sure the assistant will be someone Berry knows and has worked with in the past...

Arniel misses a key preferred qualification: He never played defense at the NCAA DI level. And he has no ties to the college game that I know of.

And do we honestly think he would relinquish his position as AV's top assistant in New York to come to UND? Unlikely.

  6. Brock Boeser stayed off the point sheet getting 4 SOG in the Win.

Christian Evers had a shot and 6 PIMs in the loss to Boeser.

Joel Janatuinen had an assist and 1 SOG in the loss.

Christian Wolanin had an assist and 5 SOG in the win.

Hayden Shaw had an assist and 3 SOG in his second game with Dubuque.

Matejj Tomek on the bench again last night.

Gabe Bast had a goal in the win for Penticton last night.

Dixon Bowen had a goal and 3 assists in the state final last night

Mattson has made the jump to the USHL now that his HS season is over. He's played three games and produced one assist. I'm guessing Bowen will be joining Fargo as well, and Senden played a couple games last fall with Des Moines so he may be getting a little more USHL time as well. Not sure about Kiersted (Chicago).

  7. To supplement an earlier comment I made in this forum, I love that we have proven finishers coming in next season to pair with our swift d-corps and our elite playmaking forward Schmaltz. What's even more promising is that Wilkie, Gersich and Boeser are routinely lighting the lamp in the USHL and they are 18, 18, and 17 years old, respectively. Still lots of promising development potential ahead for this trio.

  8. Hoooolllly crap!

I'm not sure if the playback speed of some of these Hudl clips is off or not, but I timed Elijah running from the 30 to the 30 on that 101 yd INT return. 4.74 seconds. In full pads.

  9. We'll (READ: I'll) be checking out the Nebraska Brewing Co. Additionally, we'll (READ: she'll) be checking out the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall (trade-offs). I've never visited Nebraska Brewing, so I'm looking forward to that. On past trips we've visited Lucky Bucket Brewing and Upstream Brewing (love my craft beer).

We're staying at the Hilton connected to the arena, so I'm sure we'll head across the street and check out the fan party at Old Mattress Factory as well.
