  1. As I understand the USHL rules, being he is undrafted/not on any team's protected/affiliate list he is unable to be picked up by any USHL teams for the remainder of the season. He will most assuredly be drafted in the USHL Phase II Draft this May though.

Yon is, however, on the Protected list of the NAHL's Bismarck Bobcats (as is his Roseau HS teammate Alex Strand), so he could still see action in juniors this year. ND high school standouts Jared Spooner (Bismarck) and Harrison Aide (Bottineau) have already seen some ice time with Bismarck since the ND HS season concluded.

Yon was in the lineup for Bismarck last night. Couple of SOG, no points, no PIM, even.

  2. Oh I've seen him play, but it was in high school. He just hasn't gotten as much hype as some of the other recruits we have. I was excited when he committed.

Gotchya. Wasn't trying to be snarky, BTW, though it may have come across that way! :)

  3. So I am really looking forward to this kid coming in next fall...

I think he's really underrated among our recruits.

If you've ever seen him play, he wouldn't be underrated. UND made a fantastic addition when Olson committed. He will be a difference maker next season, despite the fact that we only lose a couple of guys up front.

  4. I thought I saw that he went undrafted so I'm not sure how that all works. I believe he did skate in a camp this summer with Sioux Falls and I know Eades has seen him play at least a few times.

  5. SJHL has a terrible system for getting stats that is the best I could find haha. Having a hard time figuring out what kind of player he will be.

Solid defensive defenseman, modest offensive game. Was just named the SJHL's Sherwood Division Best Defenseman for 2013-14 as well as Flin Flon's Team MVP and Best Defenseman.

  6. If Mattson and Thompson can play every night like last night...watch out!

How far has Thompson come this season? His game has improved by leaps and bounds throughout the season. Gotta remember too, he would have been a senior for Devils Lake High this season.

  7. I think with new high schools popping up you'll see some parity just about everywhere but Grand Forks. Minot getting a new high school is in the works, and I'm not sure when the new Bismarck one opens up. If those two both have hockey then you are splitting Minot, and you are taking a chunk out of BHS and Century.

Any Fargo people know if West Fargo's new school will have hockey?

For the time being, WF's new Sheyenne High School will not have hockey.

  8. I thought central was the better team. Bismark out worked them tonight and earned it. I wish central had played as hard and aggressive as Bismarck but they did not.

Bismarck is the better team. Even if they played a best of five or a best of seven, BHS would win. Simply put, they're a deeper, better team.

  11. He was supposed to come up last weekend (Sun-Mon) after his NDSU visit but then a previous blizzard pushed back his BB game to Monday. So he couldn't come and that about did it. I believe he is sticking with NDSU. Was a longshot anyway but they had to try. The previous regime had never even offered him so Bubba needed to correct that. Not his fault Muss screwed it up.

Agree with your assessment of the previous regime's lack of an offer. The kid can play.

  12. It usually takes at least 2, maybe 3 high schools kid to get him to the ground, and he runs away for d-backs. You might see one or the other qualities in high school backs, but rarely both. I don't know much about him as a hockey player, but I have heard he may want to play hockey instead of football after high school.

He's got a ways to go to make a post-high school run at a hockey career. He is a sore thumb stand-out as a football player, definite D1 material in my (VERY amateur) opinion. Hockey, he doesn't stand out much at all outside of a burst of speed every now and again. Unless he really develops between now and next season, I'd say his hockey options beyond Fargo South might be pretty limited.

  13. Connor Wilkie scores again to make it a 9 game point streak (6 goals and 6 assists in those games).

Austin Poganski gets a goal and an assist also for tri-city.

Jack Rowe for Fargo gets 2 goals as they beat Omaha. Christian Cakebread seemed to not have an impact.

Tucker Poolman gets a +1 in the 5-2 loss.

Hayden Shaw, Waterloo, goes +2 in the 5 to 1 win. Cam Johnson didn't play in this one.

John Simonson gets a goal and a fight in tonight in a lost to Green Bay.

Nick Schmaltz gets another assist in the win.

*Chris Wilkie (We all knew what you meant) :)

Danys Chartrand 0 pts vs. Weyburn

  14. I've seen this asked a couple times, but never saw the answer: is sparks still on the team? I'd heard rumors that he had left and never heard one way or another

Yes, still enrolled, still on the team at last check.

  15. Not to be mean but UND needs better RB's than him. They have similar backs to him now. Need that next level game breaker that can make plays on their own, make guys miss.

Might Patrick Sharp be that game-breaking, difference making back?

  16. I'm glad someone else caught this. I remember hearing about him committing to QU and thought it was pretty recent that it happened when the story by Chambers came up but didn't have a chance to look it up yet. So it looks like he committed to QU the day Tambellini left.

That's not correct. Smith was committed to QU prior to Tambellini leaving UND. Smith gave his verbal right around New Year's Day, Tambellini left UND around Jan 7-8 I believe.
