Do we have anyone coming in who can replace what Cole Smith brought to the table? How about Michaud? Seemed like those two guys were the attitude of the team. They brought the sandpaper and other guys fed off of it.

That guy is already on the team. Mark Senden. Two year captain.

  3. Happy New Year to the Sioux Sports crew!

Here's to a tremendous 2020 and beyond... Our hockey team is off to one of the best starts in program history and is back where it belongs among the nation's elite. The men's basketball team pulled off one of the program's biggest ever wins as it ushers in the Paul Sather era, and the youthful squad is full of promise in a wide open Summit League. The women's hoops team is off to a fantastic start and promises to only get better with a youthful roster. The football team, coming off just its second Division I playoff appearance, will transition to the Missouri Valley Conference in what is a much better regional and stylistic fit for the program. Again, Happy New Year to you and yours, and as always, Go Sioux!

Can someone give me a ballpark figure on what tickets might cost,  based on Vegas and New York?

My tickets for the MSG game were $160 (total price including all fees) for two seats, lower bowl 18th row from the ice.

For the Vegas game, price was $360 total for four seats, 14 rows up. I'd expect similar pricing for Nashville. Upper bowl seats will most certainly be cheaper than lower bowl.

  5. UND power play national ranking last four years:

2015-16: 21st (with a roster that included Boeser, Schmaltz, Caggiula, Stecher, Poolman, LaDue, Johnson, etc...)

    2016-17: 30th

    2017-18: 17th

    2018-19: 52nd

Landon Parker kid could be good too.

IMO Trey Ausmus is the most likely Eastsider to end up at UND. I've heard lots of praise for him, and he's one of the top producers on the team as a freshman. My prediction is that three current Forks freshmen end up at UND: Spicer, Panzer, Ausmus.

Since Michael mancinelli was traded he’s went on a nice little tear.  Shows you what a system (and opportunity) can do.

I had noticed the same thing. Here's the uptick in production since the trade (yes, 7 games is indeed a small sample size, but nonetheless...)

    Fargo: 29 games, 12 points (5G, 7A)

    Des Moines: 7 games, 8 points (3G, 5A)

Also interesting is that he only had 40 SOG with Fargo and already has 17 in Des Moines.

I was trying to think of guys who came here from high school recently without playing a full year of juniors. Oshie is the only one that immediately comes to mind, but I don't think Brain Lee played a full year of juniors either. How many others have skipped playing a full year of juniors?

Brock Nelson is the only one that immediately comes to mind.

  9. Here are five fun potential destination games:

San Diego - Valley View Casino Center (~13,000)

    San Antonio - AT&T Center (~16,000)

    Orlando - Amway Center (~17,000)

New Orleans - Smoothie King Center (~17,000)

    San Francisco/San Jose - SAP Center (~17,500)

San Diego especially would be a fantastic choice due to the climate and venue size.

Another rising 1st year bantam teams will be after in the coming years: Nick Pierre (2004, Cottage Grove/Hill-Murray).

As an update to this post, age-wise Nick Pierre is an 8th grade first year bantam. Hill-Murray recently brought him up to their varsity team (he had been playing JV), and he's responded by scoring two goals in each of his first two varsity games (vs Maple Grove and Grand Rapids).

And just let this sink in for a moment: he's a 2004 who has gone from playing pee wee a year ago to playing high-level varsity this season, skipping right over bantams while not missing a beat. Incredibly impressive! For the FM area folks, Hill-Murray visits Moorhead at the end of the season.

is there a spicer around here (egf) that is a up and comer?

Yes, but he's not from EGF. Cole Spicer, 1st year bantam, plays for GF's bantam AA team. He is absolutely someone to keep an eye on as a prospective recruit as he has the potential to be a special player. He's just an 8th grader, but heard he tried out and was offered a spot on GFC varsity. Ultimately decided to play bantam AA, presumably for more games/ice time.
