  1. A lot of fans use "we" when referring to their team, even though they don't play for the team, so even though this was a Sioux fan who made the statement, and you've been corrected already, I still think it's a pretty petty argument to make. As far as what do they owe the team? Players make a commitment to play for a team, and they should honor that commitment. The school's commitment is to give them a top quality education for free. However, it goes beyond that. In the adult world, which maybe you'll enter sometime, when you make a commitment, your character is judged on that commitment, especially when you break it. The "me" attitude isn't what wins in hockey, nor in life.

They are in the adult world and they can make an adult decision if they want to leave or not, AG did it and hopefully everything turns out good for the kid. Don't fault a kid for wanting a better life and for him playing pro hockey is the way to go. I know damn well that anyone put in that situation would do the same thing. And no they dont get a full education for free most of it is divided up like the und does for the players on the hockey team.

  2. Fine.

Late last summer, didn't someone talk about Lucia recruitiung the mercenary type hockey players, that tend to leave teams in a lurch much like KO, Mueller, Kessel, Johnson....

Having been involved in youth hockey in Minnesota for the last 15 years, and seeing all these same kids I mentioned above play, I saw them as mercenary types who were all about the name on the back of the jersey, not the team logo on the front. They all jumped their community teams as soon as they were offered something better.

But Happy, please don't worry your little head about the Fighting Sioux. I think we'll do just fine even without those WJC stars this year. And thanks for stopping by to let us know you're worried about the future of Fighting Sioux Hockey all the same.

"WE", since when did you play for the Gophers? and why is it so bad that a player leaves when they are offered something better? If you got offered a job at a different place that paid more wouldnt you leave? I bet you would! These kids dont owe anything to anyone, they are looking out for whats best for them and yea it sucks that he left midway through the season but he felt that it was the right time, can't hate on a kid for that!

  3. who cares what is posted on here! everyone who comes on this website knows what is going to be on this thread, like it or not! Personally I like coming onto this thread because if you are looking to find that special jersey for someone you know where to look for it. there is no need to change where this thread belongs, if you dont like it don't come here.

  4. Oshie-VandeVelde-Kozek

Frattin-Kaip-Duncan (I think these guys would really flow well together and put up some points)

Genoway-Trupp-Watkins (Watkins and Trupp would bring some great speed and scoring ops while Chay brings the defense)

    Forney-Zajac-Malone

    That's my lineup.

thats why you sit in the stands every Friday and Saturday night!

  5. Yes and no. Granted, the Bina thing was worse because it supports cheap play. But one could argue the HC thing supports poor sportsmanship between the programs. Both are lame.

And it's not like the Bina incident ended his career (could have, but didn't). He's still out their at a high level.

But all that said, I still have no problem with the HC thing. It's like UMD refferring to us as UMTC on their scoreboard. it's their little rip, and good for them.

I suppose you wouldnt mind making fun of Travis Roy either! you are heartless for even bringing up a players injury of that magnitude! There would be no argument from from anyone because once you brought that up, I would hope someone would punch you in the face!

  6. As a Gopher fan I don't think it was "classless" he made the remark. As it's been said, it's your home arena so obviously the announcers are going to throw in some "subliminal" messages. Same goes with the Caddyshack references they have done in the past, you have to get the home fans into the game. Even though the Gopher wins at the end of Caddyshack, something I never really understood but Bill Murray still rules.

speaking of Bill, I wonder if he is driving any golf carts around these days? ???

  7. I didn't hear the first one but the second one about calling Genoway Colby is hardly an insult or even unprofessional. Doug Woog has a history with mispronouncing names. To this day he can't say "Lundbohm" or "Rastislav" and it is somewhat endearing.

And being called your brother's name is hardly insulting to begin with. I think Woog did a pretty good job this weekend considering how he was treated while he was in the public eye.

It's not that its insulting by any means, its just the fact the they do this for a living and you would think when you have the names of each player IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE you shouldnt be screwing up. AND he didn't mispronounce the name he said the wrong name, two different things.

  8. If we are going to talk classless lets talk about the two anouncers: When the gophers scored the 3rd goal (i believe) Frank goes on and says (live tv) something like "theres a highlight reel for your PHIL"

and two: Woog referred to Chay as COLBY. Now if we are talking about being professional shouldnt you at least know everyones names out there that are playing?

  9. being we are one of the TOP hockey programs in the country we expect championship banners all over the place but times have changed and other programs are getting better and better. Does that mean we are getting worse as a program? NO, but being in the Frozen Four the past couple years is an acomplishment in itself! We can't be greedy every year

  10. Good point. Probably the VFW across the river to keep them among their own kind. It's a win-win as they won't be a buzzkill for the grand forkers and gopher fans can be in their own glorious state

VFW?...I was thinking more of Liberity Lanes

  11. I am sure many people on here have friends that are Gopher fans but what I want to know is why do they insist calling us the SUE? I get what it means but its not funny nor will it ever be funny. I swear they get more ignorant every year. I just want to take our 7 banners and strangle them to death :D

  12. John Madden was in New England to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special telephone near the Patriots' bench. He asked QB Brady what it was used for and was told it was a hotline to God. John asked if he could use it. Brady replied, "Sure, but it will cost you $200." John scratched his head, then thought, what the heck, I could use some help picking games. He pulled out his wallet and paid $200. John's picks were perfect that week.

The next week, John was in Minneapolis when he noticed that same kind of phone on the Vikings bench. He asked what the telephone was for and Bollinger told him, "It's a hotline to God. If you want to use it, it will cost you $500." Recalling the previous week, John pulled out his wallet and made the call. John's picks were perfect again that week.

Last weekend, John was in Green Bay , when he noticed the same kind of telephone by the Packers 'bench. He asked Brett Favre, "Is that the hotline to God?" Favre said, "Yes, and if you want to use it, it will cost you 50 cents."

John looked incredulously at Favre and said,"Wait a second, I just paid $200 in New England and $500 in Minneapolis to use the same phone to God! Why do the Packers only charge 50 cents?"

Favre replied, "Because in Green Bay , it's a local call."

    GO PACKERS!!!!

    Thats a good one!
