  1. Our D needs to hit more and the forwards need to crash the net more. They are making good chances but need to cash in and Phil needs to play better. I think we need a new goalie to take the pressure off Phil so he can play better. I don't know I am just think outloud.

How much better can Phil play? It's kind of hard when your D leaves you hanging a lot of the times!

  2. also lets not get too carried away with all this BS that is said on this board, Osh still has his day in court. lets not forget the Duke Lacrosse team(yes rape is a little bit more serious), people started labeling those kids right away and as soon as the dust cleared they came out winners but were still haunted by the fact that almost everyone who cheered them now banished them.

  3. Come on. Sure they owe you. You pay for it. Don't kid youself -- College sports at this D-I revenue level IS a big business - it is professional hockey in all respects except for direct cash payment to the players. The Sioux generate serious revenues, and those revenues come mostly from you and your friends. Without you and others like you, do you think UND would have the hockey program they have?. The die hards that post here are the core fans who enable the whole ship to float- the ones who spend the money on the tickets, the jerseys, the arena food and finance the whole program, Uncle Ralph notwithstanding.

Yes, the athletes are college students - but they MUST be held to a higher standard of conduct, since those players represent state and school, and get enormous benefits that are not available to the rest of us. The athlete acknowledges this extra responsibility when they sign the scholarship. These are young men that should honor their commitments. To whom much is given, much is expected. North Dakota is one of the finest college hockey programs on the planet. I would expect ND fans to have very high off-ice expectations for the players that wear the green.

Fine say that all you want but I do remember going to games at the old ralph and the people that were there the most were students! you could hardly get people to go to as many games as they do now! yes i know its off topic but half the reason people only go to games at the new ralph is to socialize and brag to there friends they have season tickets and then have the nerve to bitch at people who stand up and cheer.

  4. This doesn't make any sense: "then the REST are divided up amongst season ticket holders for the wild." According to what you just said the only people who can attend are students from the schools, wild ticket holders and people who have went to the tournament for years.

Ok, so there isn't any confusion. You can buy tickets the day of the championship. They don't go on-sale till the day of the championship and they have plenty of tickets to go around.

considering the wild are apart of MSE the wild ticket holders get first dibs i know that. and if they have plenty of tickets to go around why does the AA championship game sell out?

  5. TJ Oshie getting into a fight with an opposing player in an elevator is about the best thing that has happened for our team since winning the regional championship game last year.

For those of you astute enough to realize it, our season last year was salvaged by a Kiap fight against UAA that saved our honor at the Ralph from utter embarrassment (no thanks to lame home crowds not helping matters). Fighting is part of hockey (despite the NCAA meddling in the character of the sport) and this fight will go down in the annals of College hockey lore- something fans in grand forks seem to have forgotten about in recent years. Ya it wasn't on the ice but I'll put my money on the, it will be a classic.

For those of you wanting to write this as a character assassination on Oshie, you're all lame limp politically correct droids. You have no touch with reality. Go clean your garage you probably missed a spot. You deserve the wash of the media spew you think is news.

You worry about your kids being disappointed by Oshie's fistfight, you are disappointed in his letdown as a role model. Go buy your kids X-men or Fantastic Four. Maybe go with Rambo or turn on some classic Clint fightwood movie. Maybe some Chuck Norris? Heck you live in Grand Forks go send em to the military, Maybe the national guard, where they can learn to defend North Dakota in IRAQ or Afghanistan with an M-16. Kill'n people always makes thing so much better you know.

Just anything to get them to stop looking up to the kid who turned down a million dollars to kick some opposing players *ss in an elevator. That could destroy his sensitivities for life.

Hey maybe Oshie could go to New England and play for Belichick!

Oh by the way try making some noise at a homegame, I know it's winter time in North Dakota but they have medication for that now.. Wake up and get some passion for a team your lucky to have.

    Losers!

WHOA, FIRST DON'T EVER COMPARE ANYONE OR ANYTHING TO THE ARMED SERVICES! KILLING DOES NOT MAKE THINGS MUCH BETTER! YOU PROBABLY SAID IT SARCASTICLY BUT IT WAS A WRONG CHOICE OF WORDS! UNTIL YOU GO AND DEFEND THIS COUNTRYS HONOR DON'T SAY ANYTHING LIKE THAT AGAIN, THAT KIND OF GARBAGE DOES NOT BELONG HERE!

  6. You actually can't buy tickets ahead of time for the Minnesota tournament. You actually have to walk up and buy a ticket that day. Therefore the game isn't sold out for months and you just completely lied to everyone on this board.

Certain amount go to each school, then the rest are divided up amongst season ticket holders for the wild and some are reserved for people who have gone to the tourny for years. I know people who still hold there tickets from 1956!

  7. I don't think too many people say that the North Dakota high school tournament compares with the Minnesota tournament. But i think that most would say it is getting closer. Considering that Eastern North Dakota has been the king of hockey in ND for years(decades) but Western North Dakota is finally starting to catch up. Neither East Nor West may be there quite yet but North Dakota is certainly getting there.

HOLD ON! How close are you talking here? Because last time I checked the State Hockey tournament is pretty close to a holiday in MN! How often can you say that a high school game is aired on TV on a regular basis? (don't say that ND doesnt have the power to do so because they do, there is no demand for it)

You can't get a seat at the Minnesota Class AA championship game unless you buy from a scalper, that game is sold out for months! For the North Dakota's high school tournament, you can walk up and buy a ticket that day!

  8. That's a new one, drama queen. The only problem is that most of the time I'm 100% right, and you and other's just have a difficult time coming to terms with that as well. What really amazes me is the unbelievable number of people that need serious help, I knew it was bad, but not this bad.

How can you be right most of the time but still be 100% right?

  9. man looking at all those charges though, they are all bull$%!# charges (they all merit getting into trouble but its college kids being college kids) except Bina's DUI! But I must say that with becoming a D1 school we will be seeing a lot more of this than expected!

and on that USCHO board that Denver guy should be the last person reporting on bad behavior! wasnt it a Denver player who got charged with rape a few years back?

  10. Just wait until they start doing timeline pieces like this.

Contrary to popular "wisdom", not all press is good press.

  11. No way this is just the kind of news that deserves national attention. :D When TJ misses a hockey game the world needs to know!

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/oth...suspended_N.htm

Wow! TJ in USA Today. What was heinous nature of his crime? Waking up sleeping neighbors? Sterio too loud? Used a swear word on Sunday morning?

stupid AP! the herald or some freelance reporter wrote that article and hoped the AP would pick it up and unfortantly they did! But on the other hand it gives the university some coverage

  12. You, and the rest of the "I can't deal with this thing" people would be equally outraged if Hak had done nothing. I guess there is no pleasing you guys, it seems you just need something to whine about. I have a hard time believing that these kids are so disappointed and traumatized by this that their parents can't deal with it, please, that's ridiculous. If that is true, maybe they do need to look at themselves first and be a better role model for their kids.

i think you forgot to take your ridline!

  13. So what the hell was that UNH player doing out anyhow? Were he and Oshie not out together at some party? I find it hard to believe that guy would just venture out into greater GF on his own?? Anyone have any insight into this?

since there plane didnt leave till the next morning its kinda hard to say what he was doing out. who knows maybe him and oshie new each other(chances are pretty slim, but you never know). plus its not that hard to call a cab with some of your other buddies on the hockey team to come pick you up at your hotel and go to the local bar. i am willing to bet that this UNH player wasnt the only one out from this team, this player just happen to find a jersey chaser and wanted to throw down his best moves, he probably got upset when oshie stole his girl in the elevator.

  14. General gossip from around campus. Mussman apparently the only asst. to apply for head coaching position. Bellmore and Schmidt really have no ties to area so going is a solid idea. Heard Bubba isn't happy at Duluth and would welcome the change. I believe the Hedberg/Lennon fued? if you want to call it that is all but over and I think Hedberg would be a good Offensive Coordinator at SIU. We'll see if I'm right here shortly. Gossip will turn to fact or fiction in the next couple weeks.

Schmidt has no ties to the area? He is from NORTH DAKOTA!

  15. Hmmmm.... no wonder we have Saturday night struggles. Apparently the rumorsare true. Not only are you out partying but you are parying with the other team that justbeat you....what a fuckin*g joke...this team obviouslyhasno leadership...as much as I like Oshie, after the incident last year this is a joke. Maybehe will follow Okposo now?

well if they were out partying it was on a saturday night, which means they had already lost, so to make your point valid they would have to go out on friday night and party and then lose on saturday. its not like oshie and this other guy were out holding hands and partying, they both ended up in an elevator and more than likely words were exchanged and a few fists too (not sure what happened, so i dont want to start any rumors, so dont take my words seriously). but all i know is when i get arrested for a disorderly conduct charge i want my face on the front page of the paper and all over the news because its only fair!

  16. Rumors says Bellmore and Schmidt from this staff for sure. Hedberg and Bubba are both going also.

Dale will not take any players from this university with him. I guarantee he wouldn't do that.

where is this info coming from?

  17. All the Sioux fans out here say that they will own all in football in the next couple of years, so this move still makes me wonder....

well dont think too hard because its not that tough!

yes, UND lost a great coach...is it going to hurt UND? yes, but at the same time i am sure whoever becomes AD or whoever the AD's are these days will make sure the next football coach can produce and bring us into D1.

  18. Being blunt: IF he is such a big Sioux fan that he says he bleeds GREEN, WHY would he leave??

It's simple...everyone who has something to do with sports always wants to get to the top and being at UND isnt going to get you anywhere fast. SIU is an established program and if Dale can make some noise at SIU, I am willing to bet a D1A school will come knocking at his door within the future. Just because you take another job at another school does not mean that you still can't give kudos to the school/team that gave you your start, it's kind of a respect thing. If you are a SIU fan/alumni I don't think that you should take that comment to heart because Dale will give you 110% while he is there.

  19. Okay, it's time to start pointing fingers:

What is everyone's opinion of what led to do Lennon's leaving? To blame all this on Bunning seems a bit naive to me at best and just plain stupid at worst, but want to hear other opinions....

Blame Bunning? :glare: Coaches leave football programs every year for better positions and the SIU job currently is a better position. Lennon was about to leave even with Bunning here so you can't even blame this on anyone.

New coaches....I would have to believe that Bubba is up top along with a few assistants but what I want to know is who is going to SIU with Lennon? Schmidt? Losing Schmidt would be a huge blow to UND because he does a lot of the recruiting and is a great coach and it will be only a matter of time before he is a HC somewhere. He was my football coach in HS my senior year and he seems like he is a lot like Lennon; straight forward and cares about his players.

  20. you are right, the rivalry will never fade. not sure what that was about.........and yes grieco did leave but there is no comparison between grieco and okposo and i know you didnt make that comparison. nhl vs major juniors. kids who want more playing time leave every year from colleges to go the junior route. kids hardly ever get sign mid season to a nhl team like KO

i know that you cant compare okposo and grieco but they both but each teams in a bind and even though we have a solid #1 goalie it still left the sioux with a sticky situation (nothing like what they have in mpls). the problem i have with this signing isnt with KO its more or less with Snow and his overall disrespect of college hockey because i have heard many times that a player develops a lot better in college hockey (mainly WCHA) better than in the AHL, idk thats just what i hear and i tend to believe too! it seems to me that Snow is starting to turn into the NHL's version of Isiah Thomas!

  21. I took a break from sports media for the past few days and quite frankly thought it was a joke when I saw the forum topic about Okposo. Humor me while I add my two cents (I'm sure it's all been said above already).

I'm definitely shocked. High status players leave at the end of the year, but I don't recall one leaving in the middle of the year...not without some extremely obvious reason (such as a well-publicized discipline problem -- which is definitely not the case here).

I don't care what you think about the Gophers and Don Lucia. This is very bad for college hockey -- very, very bad! Regardless of Lucia's coaching ability, the GM for the Isles has done nothing to dissuade me from believing that he is an absolute idiot. He talks as though the Gophers are a part of an Isles farm system. Talk about arrogant.

Without players like Okposa sticking around, the intensity of the Sioux-Gopher rivalry starts to fade with time. And then, even our passion for following the Sioux starts to fade a bit.

I can only imagine how we would have felt last year if Jonathan Toews had left mid-season when things were going terrible for him and the team. You can say what you want about UND being a mill for the NHL, but at least (thus far!) nobody has left us mid-year.

Like I said, this is really, really bad for college hockey. I certainly don't like the Gophers, but it is because they've been such great rivals for so long.

Ironically, this may make it more difficult to beat the Gophers when we see them again later in the year. The players and the coaching staff will definitely have something to prove.

Now that I've added some perspective, let me just say that I really dislike Lucia (but in the way that one should always disdain an opposing rival's coach). :glare:

Now, back to the season. Go Sioux!!!

Hold on, someone did leave is during the season, AG! I believe it dont matter what type of players you put on the ice for a Sioux/Gopher matchup as long as there still is a series between the two teams the rivalry will live on forever!

  22. better your life or quit on your team and coaches mid season when you commited to come back for the entire season, 3 months short of going there anyways and bettering his life as you say right? and yes you are correct on the education but most of the players education is taken care of. its not like like UND gives every kid a 20% scholly so thats a useless point

i guess looking back this isnt a suprise as he wanted to go pro this last summer but didnt as the isles would have signed him if that was the case, then things didnt go right for him this season individually and team wise so he jumped ship.

I guess the way I see it is, its his future and if he feels that playing college hockey isnt the best for him then he should leave and take that next step to play in the NHL. If I was the Gophers I wouldnt want him on my team because if you think about it how long do you think this decision has been in his head? he didnt just come up with this decision over night! this had to have been on his mind a lot during the season and i am willing to bet it affected his play a lot. just my opinion
