  11. Here's the prediction that matters: North Dakota will get it done but it won't be pretty. UND 3-2, 4-2. Dave
  12. Per Schloss, Brierley is still injured and will not make the trip home for Thanksgiving. Dave
  13. Back on track... Weekend preview (unionathletics.com) Players and coach talk about the upcoming matchup (YouTube link from Union Athletics channel) Dave
  14. Here it is on my Twitter feed. Dave
  15. It's "Bob". Dave
  16. I remember it from when North Dakota played there on New Year's Eve last year. Thought it was strange and it stuck with me. And yes, Wiki is my friend. Dave
  17. Union is averaging 2044 fans through their first five home games (Achilles Center holds 2225). Even though the students will be gone for Thanksgiving break, there will still be a decent number of fans in the seats. Over the past three Thanksgiving weekend series, North Dakota has averaged 10920 tickets sold per game. Crowds have generally looked more like 7k-8k, though. One strange thing about Achilles Center: the dimensions are 86x201 (one foot wider and one foot longer than standard NHL ice). If he makes the trip, it will be a homecoming of sorts for Union freshman forward Taylor Brierley (East Grand Forks, Minnesota). Brierley is 21 years old after spending three years combined between the NAHL (Minnesota Magicians) and USHL (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Dubuque Fighting Saints) but has yet to appear in a game this season. It is unclear whether he will travel with the team. Dave
  18. You should ask Minnesota how "EZ" Union was in the 2014 title game. Dave
  19. 2000s: Forwards T.J. Oshie, Zach Parise, and Jonathan Toews Defensemen Taylor Chorney and Chay Genoway Goaltender Jean-Phillippe Lamoureux (Honorable mention to F Ryan Duncan, D Travis Roche, and G Jordan Parise) Discuss. Dave
  20. Do you mean EE-kack? I certainly hope not. Dave
  21. Here's another way to look at it (or maybe best saved for another thread). My dream bubble hockey game would have custom painted 1980s UND players vs. 1990s UND players since I started watching the team in 1979-80 and began attending UND in 1992. Given those parameters, here are my teams: 1980s: Forwards Tony Hrkac, Troy Murray, and Phil Sykes Defensemen Ian Kidd and James Patrick Goaltender Ed Belfour (Honorable mention to F Bob Joyce, D Russ Parent, and G Jon Casey, plus my all-time favorite 80s player Jim Archibald) 1990s: Forwards Dave Hoogsteen, Greg Johnson, and Jeff Panzer Defensemen Curtis Murphy and Brad Williamson Goaltender Karl Goehring (Honorable mention to F Jason Blake, D Nick Naumenko, and G Aaron Schweitzer, plus fan favorite Mike Commodore) Discuss. Dave
  22. I would be surprised if Monty goes with Dayton Rasmussen (fr., Eden Prairie, MN) tonight, but stranger things have happened. Here are Rasmussen's stats from his two collegiate starts: October 21, 2017 vs. Lake Superior State: 1 goal allowed on 16 shots (win) November 3, 2017 at Western Michigan: 6 goals allowed on 37 shots (loss) That gives him an NCAA line of: 1-1-0, 3.54 goals-against average, .868 save percentage Rasmussen just turned 19 and was traded mid-year in both of his USHL seasons (from Waterloo to Tri-City in 2015-16 and from Tri-City to Chicago in 2016-17). In the second game of a rivalry weekend (and given the way last night ended up), I think it's Jalliet's net. Dave
  23. Malone was assessed a major penalty for charging and a game misconduct for the hit. There was contact to the head and thus Malone also sat for UND's next game (11/5/10 vs. Duluth). I was sitting in the second row on the blue line (penalty box side) at the X when Paukovitch checked Bina into the near boards after Bina's touch drew a whistle on a delayed penalty. The hit by Paukovitch was worse, but they were both illegal. Dave
