I agree it is a very well written editorial. But, yet must agree with the writer. Why is more not being done to safe the nickname and logo. Why are the tribal leaders not even coming to the table for discussions? Why is the state not doing more? I think these are all very valid questions and should be answered.
Its a lost cause. There won't be a vote of all the natives just a vote of the tribal council and thats what will kill the Sioux nickname. Its done and over, what UND should do now is get some new nickname ideas from alumni, facilty and students. RIP Fighting Sioux.

According to the media guide, it was installed prior to the 1998 season.
They had to replace it due to the 97 flood.

If you don't believe the name is going to change you have your head in the sand.
I agree if they don't get a vote of the people of their tribes then the Sioux name is dead cause the tribal council is NOT going to change their minds in less than 2 1/2 years.

I think the Bison should keep their mouths shut til they win games that count. Your transition period games don't mean sh-t if you aren't in the playoffs so tell you what get the same record as last year and go to the playoffs and actually host one in the dome then come back here and run your mouths. As for saying we need to play the Bison....WHY??? We need to play the Bison like we need to play the Gophers. For what? Are you guys still sore we have the Nickel? Bout time to retire that with the Sitting Bull Trophy
We will play you guys in the future don't worry about that. We have our transition period to go through and if and I said IF you guys are a I-AA powerhouse in 2012 we will put you on the schedule and renew the rivalry, until then our games don't mean di-k til the period is over (IMO). Just like your games didn't mean sh-t until this upcoming season. -
Is college hockey going to change the way they do overtime?? I would love to see shootouts and get rid of ties.

Even though they lost in the Frozen Four they still had a great season. Lots of excitement and if it means anything they can say they got somewhere that 55 other teams did not go. Next year will be the year and if BC stands in the way.....knock them down!!!!! GO SIOUX!!!!!

I too thought about fireing Hak but only cause he left Lamy in there after the 4 goals in the first period Walski played great against Bemidji State put him in and maybe you give your team a shot Lamy had a very bad night. If your QB through 4 picks in the first qtr would you keep him in there the whole game? Same situation. So next year get the bugs out, make sure you schedule BC at the Ralph and kick the living sh-t out of them!! Then take the WCHA title, then the final five title and finally the national title. You can do it Sioux. Lets rally around the 08-09 team and keep fighting! (and ND leads Mich 1-0.)

I know in 1997 the Sioux scored 5 goals in the 2nd period vs Boston U. So maybe they could score 7 but then maybe we won't see any snow tonight.

Fighting Klan??? So all Indian nicknames are racists??? Seminoles, Utes, Chippewas? So you drive up to Belcourt, ND and tell them they are racists cause they have an Indian nickname, and see what they say to you.

It would appear that you then are not doing a good job of educating your son. Where does this 10-15% come from or did you just make that up? If this is your version of respect I would hate to see what you consider offensive. Are the black helicopters circling your house? That grand conspiracy of the PC crowd. The PC crowd is a crowd that controls the rest of us. It consists of probably 10 to 15% of the peoople, it has power through pity. To say that the Sioux name hasn't been respected is so far from the truth. I have been around the Sioux name since around 1968, as a kid the Fighting Sioux was my team and still is to this day.
The logo is important to me today because it's important to my 6 year old son. He can't figure out why people want to get rid of the name...I just told him "don't feel like the lone ranger, the world you're coming into is a lot different than I was fortunate enough to grow up in(1960's)".
Just tell your son that if you complain and are in the total minority you can get your way. There is no majority rule when it comes to PC. Those people should be on a deserted island somewhere where they can just bitch to each other and no one would care.

I interpret that statement to mean that we have a 0% chance of seeing the game on FSSN or FSN. If it's exclusively on ESPN affiliated stations, that eliminates those two. It looks like ESPNU or the internet are it.
Then why can't the games be on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN Classic?? Is College Hockey that unattractive to the rest of the country.

Why does the REZ get a choice on what UND's next name should be? There are like three - four reseravation in North Dakota. I think it should be the Students, Alumni and the board that decide the next name.
I would leave the board out of it just let the students and alumni vote.

Just change the name so we don't have to worry about future sanctions and nickname debate crap and protesters ever again!!! This is stupid the AG f'd up when he gave in to the NCAA (he will never get my vote ever). So just change the name the tribes are not going to approve it...EVER! So quit wasting time just come up with a bunch of names and let the students and the city of GF vote for the name i would say the state but that means the Rez has a say on the new name so thats why it should be the school and/or the city. This way we could host a regional in hockey and when the 5 years are up we could host a playoff game in BB and football. Imagine the ralph hosting a regional in basketball, that would rock!!!

On the 10 o'clock news last night, while waiting to see Trupp's fantastic goall, I heard that Spirit Lake was going to have the people on the rez voice their opinion about the FS name and logo. It there was a strong opinion to keep it, it would go to a vote. I think they said that it was the chair woman who said this but I wasn't paying attention when they first started talking. The news report also said that Standing Rock was standing firm on their opposition to the name and logo.
So in reality, if the name and logo are ok with Spirit Lalke and Standing Rock isn't, we still don't get to keep the name and logo. Which brings up the question that a Dakota Sioux asked me. Why isn't UND talking to the folks on the Sisseton-Wahpeton-Oyate Reservation? Part of it is in North Dakota. They have come out against the name and logo but talking to them won't hurt anything. A nurse and lab tech at their health care facility are planning to bring their respective families to the Ralph. They're hockey fans.
Why do we need both tribes, aren't one good enough? Did FSU and Cent. Mich get all their tribes support??

So if the nickname passes with this kind of a vote would that a$$hole Ron His Horse Is Thunder do the same thing at the Standing Rock? Or would he be too scared about the outcome.

Since we are scheduled with Texas Tech (which i don't see any school connection, but whatever) is there any chance of more Big 12 teams like Iowa State, Nebraska, Colorado or any Kansas schools?? I point out about the school connection cause it seems the Sioux play big name teams with a connection only like basketball with Kansas and Iowa State.
