  1. Simply shows our dedication to the program. I almost bought the satellite system, but opted to go with HDTV first, which is getting hooked up by the Dish dude as we speak! Devils hockey tonight in HD!

I am glad Cable One here in Fargo carries FSSN, i thought cause its the Sioux they wouldn't. Must be a Sioux fan at the cable company.

  2. Televising this game in Grand Forks is a very dumb move. I wish there was a way to black it out in Grand Forks. I predict 6,000 for attendance tomorrow....that'll be embarassing. I understand putting it on in the other markets....bad marketing move having it on in Grand Forks.

There aren't many people there. I am watching it on the FSSN and Pat Sweeney said it was a sub-par crowd. Lots of empty seats from what i see.

  3. RIP Fighting Sioux

Before we go D1 lets have a New Name

Lame Duck President & No AD = No Leadership when we need it most :silly:

I agree that we should have a new name before we go to D1 this fall. Lets have a brand new start to a new division. We are still North Dakota, until the NCAA takes that away from us.

  4. As an avid Chicago Bears fan, I don't think I have it in me to cheer for the Vikings!!

Wouldn't that confuse Gopher fans when we play them in hockey to hear them boo the Vikings in Minneapolis.

  5. After their loss to the Bison I think they would be scared to play us in anything same with Wisconsin losing to NDSU at home. They are just scared. If they really believed in this policy they would forfiet every game we play them in hockey. Its not about the name its about being scared!!!!

  6. I've been following the Sioux since the early 80's, watching them on Prairie Public TV in Minot ND...I have always supported the name and am a proud alumnus...after reading the terms of the settlement with the NCAA (a-holes), I think it's time to move on...Native leaders are saying they don't want the responsibility of retiring the name and that it will cause them more pain...then you have those who want to organize against keeping it. Even if it gets approved in the next three years, they can change their mind any time in the future...WTF is that? Is this what the tribes really want? Are they looking for UND to structure a settlement or tribute? I'm guessing FSU does something like that for the Seminole tribe.

I agree with one of the earlier posters; take a vote now and if they do not want the name to continue then drop the whole thing. We will be UND, don't really need a nickname, although the Cavalry or Roughriders sound pretty cool.

I wonder if we can still play hockey in the old building; it might just come to that...

    bummed out...

They are tearing down the old building so that leaves that option out.

  7. North Dakota = BLIZZARD

Picture this... The lights go dark at The Ralph an Alert Message starts scrolling Blizzard warning around the 360 video board . Sirens start blarring. Here's the University of North Dakota BLizzard!

Also paint the Zambonies like ND DOT snowplows.

DQ blizzards could be sold at the Ralph. yum butterfinger blizzard

I like the idea, and with the blizzard warning you could have a loud howling of the wind that could send shivers around the arena, plus i love DQ blizzards!!!!! :D

  8. Perhaps people are thinking that effectively, the nickname was retired as of today; but with a three-year retirement party in between. I guess that's the best way I can think of my own feelings (and in reading the posts, I'd say a lot of others feel the same way).

And also, I'd say people are defining "the fight" differently. My initial reaction was that I wanted far more of a fight than what was shown today. Getting three years to continue to talk to people who have clearly shown over the last fifteen (or more) years that they want nothing more than to get back at "the man" for (some) real and (far more) imagined slights that they think "their people" have suffered since the Europeans came to America isn't going to change them much. All it will do is give them an even more outsized sense of entitlement and "ownership" of a word from history.

All in all, I think a lot of people invested a lot of time, some money and a lot of emotional energy in this, and right now they're very dissatisfied with the outcome their leaders have given them. They really think they deserve more. And today's posts are merely the begining. If UND is lucky, the posts will continue. If they're not, the posts will diminish as apathy sets in. Unfufilled promises usually lead to anger initially: but when you don't see any hope for a payoff you move on down the road.

BTW, good luck with the hockey. Believe it or not, Illinois had (maybe still has) women's hockey on the club level.

Well said, I am one who would say the name has been retired with a 3 year party its like the president elected in November but not official until January, well we have 3 years to talk about a new name and one of common sense, I heard on WDAY there is talk about an idea for a new name and logo being talked around I don't know if she is talking about the Force of the North or what but at 10pm i will be at work so i will miss that...keep me posted. I think reality will sit in about changing the name, the natives are not going to change their minds and we just have to live with it. And the AG should have fought a little harder but decided to give up at the end. I like the Force of the North for a name or how about Green Wave because of the colors oh wait EGF, and Tulane have that. Well think green and white RRV, and cold weather with mosquitos. But nothing to do with Indians that way no controvercy...ever!

  9. If it comes to that, I'm sure UND will find some part of the budget to make it work ....

I heard them say those logos could bring in big money when it sells on Ebay, whether they are serious i don't know, but it would be cool to have a big bronzed logo of the Sioux.

  10. I would say wait the 3 years but the part of the agreement that says they can change their mind anytime and the name is gone in a year really got to me, so get rid of the name and NO MORE INDIAN NICKNAMES!!!! That way we don't go through this mess ever.

  11. Here is a question i heard on the news and never thought of it....who pays to remove all the logos from the REA, Alerus, etc. The students in the way of special fees, the university, alumni, people of Grand Forks or people of the state of North Dakota, I think the answer should be casino money from the Spirit Lake and Standing Rock tribes, we should get a share to take down the logos.

  12. What exactly did UND get out of this? I do not see any reason we should be happy with our attorneys. P. S. bring back the old blackhawk jerseys for the final three years.

We get an apology from the NCAA about being hostile and abusive and a new nickname.
