There's nothing to worry about. NDSU will have superior talent to most ,if not all, FCS teams next  year as usual. It''s likely that they'll be the preseason #1 again and should be the favorite to win it all again.

UND fans imagining that NDSU will inevitably "fall from grace" or "come back down to earth" is nothing more than wishful thinking on their part. Good teams usually stay good.

Very true, and you guys stayed good in the 90’s and early 2000’s, it’s just we were better or it wouldn’t have taken you guys almost 20 years to get your first playoff game in the Fargodome. We need to step up our game to surpass you, or else the waiting for you to fall won’t happen. Could 2020 be the next 1993? Guess we will have to wait to find out.

I was gonna say when Mayville St beat us in 2009..............

But I guess you were looking for an upset WIN.............

Beating SDSU shouldn't be considered a "big uspet" in any year.  But I guess this is where this program is at...............

If we beat SDSU in the tournament it will be the big upset.

UND gave it the old college try and nearly pulled off a big home win.   However, it was too much Daum for their liking and SDSU was able to come away with the home win.  UND will head down I-29 to take on in-state rival NDSU, who is trying to figure things out themselves.

Things have not been going well for NDSU basketball program under Dave Richman, who exploded onto the scene with a surprising NCAA Tournament appearance and a Summit League Title in 2014-15. Since then, the program has dropped in its win total and has muddled in the middle of the Summit.  Worse yet, they had a massive overhaul of their roster in which they have zero seniors.  Richman knows that the pressure is starting to build as many in Fargo are not too pleased with the progression of the program, especially with the success down in Brookings.  They know they have to turn it around and fast.

Key Player: Tyson Ward (6'6 Junior)

Could have went with a few players here but I went with the lanky 6'6 guard from Tampa.  He has had a solid start to the Summit League play as he scored double figures in 4 of the first 5 games.  He has done most of his damaged inside, taking less shots from 3 this season so far, but he has shown the capability of knocking a few down.   Very good rebounder.

    X-Factor: Deng Geu (6'8 Junior)

Deng continues to improve every year he has been in the program.  He's playing around 20 minutes, but is nearly averaging 12 points in that time and 5.3 rebounds per game.  He will shoot a 3 pointer every now and then but he will do most of his damage on the inside.  Shooting 59% from the field

    Keys:

    1) Attack NDSU defense

    2) Get off to a good start

    3) Lean on the seniors and Stewart to lead the way in the tough moments.

    Other games:

    Fort Wayne (4-1) @ WIU (1-5)

    ORU (4-2) @ DU (1-5)

    USD (2-3) @ Omaha (4-1)

    The Call:

When this rivalry got started up again there has been trends in the results.  First it was all the home teams winning, recently it has been the road teams.  This is a must win for both teams to be honest as both teams needs to get some space away from the DU/WIU cellar.  I'm making my pick for two reasons:  I think UND is player better right now and I'm sticking with the road team trend for right now.

    UND 79-72

    Reminder:  Keep it clean everyone.

This game has to be a must win for both teams, the basement is a lot closer than the top so start getting some road wins.

Another game where Jones can point and laugh at Brewster.

And vice versa as Jones’ team leaves the court with another loss. Both coaches are not having good years. It will be a photo finish to .500.

Or maybe NDSU will forfeit in 2021 so they don't have to "degrade" themselves playing in Grand Forks? :p:lol:;)

They will move up to avoid another defeat in the Alerus.

Darrell weve gone over this how many times?   Thanksgiving weekend. We didnt expect to make the playoffs. Student all went home etc etc etc

Didn’t UND have more people at the hockey game that same day? I guess we know where the Bison fans were.

FWIW, during our 3-8 2009 season, we didn't have below a 14,000 attendance. We got 1k+ teammakers on a wait list for season tickets. Fan base and attendance aren't going anywhere.

Also, 6-5 season in 2008, no less than 16k/game

Then your fanbase decided not to attend their first ever PLAYOFF game in the Fargodome since it opened

12,202 vs Robert Morris in 2010.

Could NDSU beat some FBS teams? Yes.

But, again, at the end of the day, NDSU and UND and the rest of the teams in the FCS are playing for 131st place.

And? Its for a National title we compete for. You telling me anyone outside of the P5 conferences have a shot at the CFP? They are playing for the whocaresbowl. 6-6 teams are fighting for their participation trophy while we in the FCS are fighting for a National title and a nice banner hanging in the Alerus Center next to the 2001 National Championship banner. I am proud of our team if and when we beat FBS teams (so far its just Wyoming), its a big step. Why degrade it.

NDSU will not get an invite from an existing FBS conference, period.  Those conference like the MAC or MWC would end up cutting their own schools CFP allotment as it maxes out at 10 portions for G5 conferences.  G5 schools want more money, not less, and adding a small media market like Fargo would get one laughed out of a room.

NDSU has two options for FBS:

Either take the Liberty route and go it alone, but major money would have to be expended to get four FBS teams to come to the FargoDome, or a much more cost effective way is to start a new FBS conference with at least 8 wannabe FBS members, and that way the required FBS games at home are built in.  There is a thread on that idea by me, but too few take it seriously and bison trolls hate it because UND is included.

No Sun Belt for the Bison? I am sure a match with Texas State for a Frisco Bowl berth would be exciting for their fan base.

The School Board has proposed demolishing Winship, Wilder and West and consolidate them in a new north end school for facility reasons.  Don’t know why West can’t get students from west of the interstate as Lake Agassiz is full.  All the farm/rural kids used to go to West anyway so there was a bus.

That would be sad to see those schools go. A lot of history there.

Beat their asses after that, then. I hate NDSU, and UND fans of all backgrounds should also.

I'm worried more and more people can not imagine UND beating NDSU. That is not good.

Gather up the confidence and change the trajectory of both programs.

It’s the mid 80’s all over again.

Congrats to NDSU for winning the most FCS Championships.

Cue the "let's moove up and play the big boys" comments on social media.  I wish they would move up, so they can play conference mates Troy and Texas State (not the Fighting Armadillos).

The answer was Winship.  The parents were almost all working class that unfortunately did not instill a sense of achievement or aspiration early.  Those kids poisoned GFC as they did not posess school spirit or anything.  But they did get a turn out for their smoking and drug sessions.  They did not have an effect on GFC athletics much as they almost all didnt participate.

West and Lake Agassiz then had a large % of parents that were UND profs.  Likely has changed now.

Winshit was what we called that school. West is the best in the whole US. Still sounds good 31 years later.

It’s ok. I never really fit in with the elitist groups anyway. We had a good group of guys that hung out that was comprised of both RR and GFC kids.

It was those Roosevelt kids that you wanted to steer clear of. ;):D

My brother went to Roosevelt for a year so I know what you mean.

Did it ever occur to you that neither I, nor NDSU fans as a group, can be wrong about who we collectively consider to be NDSU's primary rival?

If we say you're not our primary rival, then you're not. It's that simple.

Ever go to Anygivensaturday.com? Every UND thread in the past was always invaded by Bison fans thumping their chest to belittle us at everything. (One of many reasons I quit going to that site) SDSU may be your rival but not your number one rival that is reserved for us. You think because you have a trophy that makes them your primary rival? We had one with South Dakota but never thought of them as our number one rival. What’s funny I used to have a house divided flag (got ripped apart by wind) with a Bison on one side and a Sioux logo on the other. I have never seen anything like that with the Bison and Jacks. So go kid yourself and think your number one is the Jacks, while reality will remind you who it really is.

I wonder why NDSU was so hesitant to play UND when according to some, it's just another game on the schedule, and a win doesn't help the program more or less than any other game on the schedule.

Remember their motto: Anyone, anywhere, anytime....unless it’s against UND.

I understand your angst towards the Bison. I also know that not all people in Fargo are fans. Fact is if a Big ten offer came in there would be no way Fargo or NDSU and its fans  would let it get away. If you think other wise then you dont realize the magnitude of what that move would mean to the fargo community. The economic impact is huge.

But its really something you dont have to worry about.

Don’t you think if Bison fans that live in Fargo didn’t care about money the Fargodome would already have plans to be replaced by a bigger dome, after all they have been kings of the FCS for almost a decade in a building almost 30 years old. Also me not being a Bison fan has nothing to do with my response, my wife who is a huge Bison fan whose parents went to NDSU says no to a new stadium time and time again when I ask her when the subject comes up. But it doesn’t matter since the Big 10 won’t look at NDSU.

  18. 3 hours ago, bison73 said:

Yes they would. Big Ten affiliation is huge. Big money donors and sponsorships. Just so we are clear here ----I am not a big proponent of moving up at this juncture. But even I can see how big that opportunity would be.  With that being said we all know this isnt happening.

As a resident of Fargo we have no money, or Mahoney wouldn’t bitch about how much it cost for security for Trump’s visit. Property taxes keep going up, the price of the diversion just went up, and I’m sorry but not everyone here care about what conference the Bison are in.
