Danny could have taken over after the 2025 season, no need to wait until 2027. Or even someone else other than Danny.
Sure Bubba will get us our 6-7 wins and there is no guarantee what the next coach will do. But I'd rather risk seeing what someone else can do....even if it means the new guy sucks and is canned after 3 years. I'd rather risk it for the chance the new coach could be better and make us a contender. It's been 10 freaking years of mediocrity.....now we have to sit on our hands and watch another 4 years of the same predictable thing......F that.
Ok the funny part about my comment above is me saying a UND coach would get canned after 3 years. We know that would never happen...unless he went 0-11 for three straight years.
Yeah, I would've rather seen a path forward for Danny to stay as well. My comment about him coming back was more in jest/wishful thinking.
As I see it, after Danny left, they had two options - either start from zero, or keep Bubba on and go out to find talent that can come in as an assistant and be ready to take over when Bubba retires. I like keeping Bubba and building internally to improve and succeed him. I'm really curious how so many people seem to think that the answer is just to ditch Bubba and suddenly we are beating the state schools every year and getting tan in Frisco. He's made some head scratching decisions over the past few seasons that have cost us games, there's no doubt about that, but I just don't think replacing him is going to gain us ground faster than building up under him.

I don't see what everyone is so upset about. 1) You all seem to be certain that Bubba is going to keep the program afloat and in playoff contention. Can't say the same for a new hire. 2) Bubba is just keeping the seat warm for Danny to come back in a few years with the SDSU book of secrets and take over as HC. He'll hand Danny a solid program that is primed and ready to take from good to great.

I added onto the detailed current standing you've created with a sheet that will allow you to select the outcome of each remaining NCHC game and see what the final standings will be. You just have to select the outcome of each game in the column highlighted in yellow and the standings at the top left corner will automatically update and sort based on your selections. Have fun predicting!

This was my favorite memory - it was my first game at Mariucci. My friend and it were in the SRO up at the rail in the offensive zone for the goal. We danced around the concourse as the Minny fans filed out.
Also, we spent the remainder of our printing budgets for the semester at the business school making about 1000 of these that we put on cars in the parking lot and handed out to fans until security made us throw away the last handful of them. The back side said "Can you please point out which number Kyle Okposo is?" (he had just ditched them early for the NHL) Credit to whoever originally created this on here:

For anyone going to the game, a few recommendations:
- The Boise Greenbelt is a large walking path that runs along the Boise river basically the whole way across the metro. It goes directly by the stadium - enjoy a nice walk on it.
- The downtown area is also walkable from the Stadium/campus and it's one of the cleanest, nicest downtowns you'll find. Lots of food and drinking options.
- If you have extra days, drive up highway 55 or 21 and go into the mountains. McCall and Stanley are each about 3 hours away and both are gorgeous.
- If you want a short, fun hike closer to the stadium, go to Camel's Back Park. It's a few hundred steps straight up to a great view of Boise.

I wasn't familiar with his organization so I looked at them a bit - none of their programs seem to require any religious affiliation to participate and they seem to represent the demographics of the locations they serve. (Almost all the kids they serve in Haiti are black, almost all the kids they serve at their ND camps are white) Yes, some of the programs have Christian programming, but isn't it their right to put out whatever messaging they want?
What am I missing that makes this a racist organization that requires a specific religious affiliation?

Congratulations to Brucesky02 and CLASSY FREDDIE BLASSIE for tying for first!
An honorable mention to UNDBIZ for getting the most individual picks correct, but missing the championship game winner knocked him out.
Thank you! Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. SCSU is the Duke of NCAA hockey - never trust them in the brackets.
Congrats to @UNDBIZ and @CLASSY FREDDIE BLASSIE - I'm happy to share the honors! When do we receive our mountains of prizes?

The $100 price tag is aggressive. From their perspective, I can't blame them for trying it out though. I don't know what their single game ticket quantity available is, but if it was 2,000 seats per game, you're talking about $200,000 in extra revenue on the weekend.
That said...IMO - the UND athletic dept. should address this sort of pricing behavior in any future agreements with schools. Either a cap on the % increase allowed or a revenue share on any increase over the average ticket price that school charges. For conference games, the NCHC should exercise some muscle in stopping the similar behavior like we saw with the package requirements in Denver.
While these high ticket prices and package requirements make short-term economical sense for the schools, I believe they represent a long-term loss for college hockey. I witnessed a similar behavior in NASCAR. (grew up in NC) They had huge demand - the waiting list for tickets to the night race at Bristol was 84,000 people when I signed up in 1998. There were certainly some other factors like overbuilding grandstands (supply) and the poor economy, but when I started going to races in 1997, tickets were generally $20-$60. By the mid-2000s when their decline started, tickets were $75-$200. As people stopped coming, they lost interest.
I can't remember if there are any proven theories on this, but what I'm getting at is that sports economics is not a standard supply and demand chart. You can't just drop prices later and have demand increase at the same level. As you increase price, you reduce demand, and that reduction has a continued effect in the future as fans lose interest in the sport.
The product hasn’t been great, which is certainly a big part of this picture, but I feel like the concepts I talked about above are well at play here. I don’t care what else was going on last night, this is a truly pathetic turnout for the Gophers.

Actually just one. Was in october of 2001. Early year snow storm dumped about 10 inches. School Closed around noon. I was a freshman-got loaded in Walsh 120.
Thanks for that. I knew there weren't any 06-08 but I wasn't sure before then.
I recall that when it got below zero, the walk across campus was actually nicer than warmer days - your legs would start to go numb and you stopped feeling cold.

I seem to recall a second-hand quote from President Kupchella that if students were willing to risk their lives to go to the bars, they could risk their lives to go to class. Was there ever a snow day during his presidency? (99-08)

In today's world, they know that the e-mail got to you, you opened it, you clicked on it, all of your survey responses, and any other pages on UND's websites that you browsed.
Or they don't want you to win the raffle.

Let me be clear - I'm not trying to reinstate the previous topic used for discussing Fargo. This is not for discussing crime - just for business topics, like the Grand Forks one.
Anecdotally, it seems like Fargo is in a bit of a downturn. When I lived there, (2014-2016) I was worried about what I perceived as over-building in housing (especially in high end homes) and over-expansion of businesses. My feeling had been that the growth in restaurants/retail was being propped up by temporary demand increases due to the over-construction going on in the housing and retail markets. Once housing slowed, my thought had been the construction workforce would drop and demand for hotels/restaurants/retail along with that.
I've been seeing a number of articles about places closing and the housing market stagnating. Anyone have anything else that's out there with analysis on all this? I haven't been able to find any concrete housing numbers to look at other than the first article below. What other factors do you think are at play here? Oil?

Great call on the Google Alert!
I actually live in Saint Paul now, and the police didn't were not optimistic about finding the person or items. I wasn't that surprised to hear that. Basically I was told to monitor Craigslist and other similar sites.
I lived on the east side for a few years - I love Saint Paul, but I never left anything of any value anywhere that wasn't locked :/

HELP Needed!
So, two weeks ago, my wife and I had someone break into our detached garage. Unfortunately, I still had a couple boxes that were still in the garage from the move, containing sports memorabilia and other collectibles. (Stupid move, I know.)
Among other things: They snagged a Fighting Sioux Flag and two authentic Fighting Sioux jerseys - one being a game-worn David Hoogsteen (loved that jersey). Obviously the game-worn jersey is not replaceable, but I want to try to get something to replace the voids. I am not too worried about the version of Fighting Sioux jersey, mainly just concerned with getting a quality replacement.
This topic obviously captured my attention from all of the garbage/sketchy "replicas" that are floating around on EBay, Amazon, and other sites. Anyone know of a good source to purchase a good replacement Fighting Sioux jersey or two?
Thank you in advance!
Sorry to hear about this. If I was you, I would set up a google alert for anyone selling a Hoogsteen jersey. Shouldn't be too many hits on that. If you're lucky, you'll find a craigslist post for it and be able to track down this motherf...not nice person.
I can't speak to what the GFPD does (or wherever you might find the jersey) but many departments nowadays will help you out in confronting the individual and recovering your property.

Dang. As a student who golfed, it was always nice to be able to run over to RR and play for $10. It did suck that the course was only open for 3 months while school was in session...so maybe it does make sense in that regard.
Still hate it, especially for Dustin and Nerby. There isn't exactly a huge amount of other jobs out there in GGF for golf courses, so I hope those guys land on their feet somewhere. They did a heck of a job managing that course on a shoestring budget for years.
Looking forward, if they want this property to become connected to campus, they're going to have to do something about accessibility with the railroad. How much would it cost to move the whole rail yard outside of town? No more train shunting crashes in the middle of town, no more wall preventing development south from the main campus, no more kids getting run over...seems like it's all positives to me. Other than delivery to the power plant and that cemstone plant (or whatever it is along demers) what other reasons are there that necessitate a rail yard in the middle of town?? Heck, get rid of the rail yard and then we can have enough space to build a retractable roof football stadium and go FBS, right? ok, too far. But really, why does GF need that mess of trains in the middle of town??

Planned location is chicken-sandwiched between TX Roadhouse and Sakura (formerly, Space Aliens) on 32nd.
Kudos to you for the verified info on this. Nice work. +1 for the chicken-sandwiched comment alone.
CFA has had North Dakota on their open locations for franchisees for about a year now. They had some franchisee interest meetings in the state this spring. I would have to assume Fargo is getting one as well, given they held franchisee meetings there.
Hopefully whoever got the franchisee slot(s) is a local. It's a good opportunity to "own" your own business with very little money required. I say "own" because CFA actually owns everything...but a $10,000 investment for a franchise that averages $200,000/yr in profit for an operator is pretty great IMO.
Despite being a chain, it should be a nice addition to the community. Lots of great training for young employees, plus a decent college scholarship program, and they typically do a lot of community events/special nights.

Their service wasn't always the fastest, but they had great bread and baked goods. Sad day for eating in Grand Forks - Dakota Harvest has closed its doors.
The business had been up for sale since January. I'm assuming they never found a buyer...also assuming the closure was not financially related. The last few times I was in there, it was just as busy as ever. -
What's with the Popolino's hate? Their crust is delicious. Maybe it's a difference of style preference or something...but they are the best pizza in town IMO. I don't make a trip back to GF without hitting up 746-POPS.

I think you guys are forgetting how bad it used to be in Grand Forks. 10 years ago, driving across town took almost twice as long. Some time in the late 2000s, they implemented a state of the art system that uses upgraded signal computers, cameras, and a central computer system to create more efficient traffic flows. I can't find the study any more, but I remember reading that it shaved something like 8 minutes off the average time from Gateway to 32nd on Columbia.
They are always evaluating traffic patterns and accident records. Gateway used to have an even lower speed limit until they upped it a few years back. If you think a road needs a higher limit, your best bet is going to be to contact your council member or just go right to the city traffic engineer, Jane Williams, to make your suggestion - Jwilliams@grandforksgov.com
I agree on the winter/summer discrepancy. It almost feels like GF needs two sets of speed limits posted - one for November-March and another for April-October. As for the bad drivers...they aren't much better anywhere else you go.

If you're offering odds on that spread, I'll take UND to cover +20 against NDSU this fall or any time.
