  1. There have been comparisons made to where this year's Sioux team is after 28 games compared to last year's team. While that's an interesting comparison, it's somewhat misleading because the 04-05 Sioux were a veteran-heavy team. I think a better comparison is the 01-02 Blais-coached Sioux team that started the season with 12 freshman on the roster. After that team's first WCHA loss of the season to an older, more experienced Wisconsin team, Blais said, "We
  2. Sigh. It's not about what Shepherd won't do. It's not about what he'll dare to do. It's about what he can't do under NCAA rules. Why don't you just admit that you either didn't know about the NCAA rule or didn't understand it? Stop trying to spin your way out of it. Being a sudo-journalist gives me no special ability to look up a rule. You could do it, too, if you wanted to.
  3. So if Minnesota's having so much trouble finding opponents that it wants to schedule pretend DI NDSU, does it mean that the Golden Gophers should move to the NFL?
  4. One of the media jackals in the press box made the exact same comment late in the second period. And, no, it wasn't the Queen of All Sioux Hockey Moms, although her take on the game was very similar.
  5. The entire premise of your pointless play was based on this: "Greg Shepherd wouldn't dare overturn a DQ." It has nothing whatsoever to do with what Greg Shepherd would "dare" to do. He can't do anything other than what the NCAA rule book says he can do.
  6. Tell it to the NCAA. It's their rule. It didn't change for Harrington and it's not going to change for Spirko.
  7. Maybe you should refer to the NCAA rule book before going through the trouble of writing a fictional one-act play. The rules say that no penalty can ever be reduced or rescinded. Tapes can be reviewed for the purpose of adding additional penalties or increasing the severity of a penalty, but never to overturn a penalty. Every time a game DQ is called, we go through this same pointless discussion about the possibility of penalties being appealed. You'll never see it happen because the NCAA rules say it can't happen. End of story.
  8. Hey, I've already said on this board that I have a face made for radio and a voice made for print. Maybe Pat Sweeny should stop asking me to prove it.
  9. Whatever you say, Dave. I heard that, too.
  10. I heard that.
  11. "Show me the team with fans..." What part of that statement did you not understand?

    SIOUX VS MSU

The Sioux created a lot of those breaks with tenacious forechecking, something we haven't seen a lot of at home. Like Jutting, I wouldn't blame Tormey for the loss, but the Sioux themselves had a lot to do with the turnovers. It wasn't only the poor play of Mankato.
  13. From NewsOK.com: Southeastern name now the Savage Storm I'm not sure why SE Oklahoma State would feel the need to change their name if they'd removed all American Indian symbols and references from their uniforms. The word "savage" doesn't apply only to American Indians. The NCAA allowed Merrimack to remain the Wariors because it did away with Indian references. In any case, I thought that using the name "savages" to honor an American Indian tribe was too much of a stretch. SEOSU did the right thing by changing the name, but I'm not sure that Savage Storm is a good nickname for a school in tornado alley.
  14. That would explain giving up six goals on Friday.
  15. I'm pretty sure it was Woog (figures), not Mazzocco. To me, it sounded like Woog was trying to do a French pronounciation of Oshie's name -- as if he doesn't have enough problems with normal names.
  16. I want to commend the students on their performance tonight. I thought it was terrific. They were a credit to UND. Let's hope the rest of the crowd now follows their example.
  17. The last time I checked, "everyone" doesn't insist on standing for the entire game and "everyone" doesn't participate in organized, obscene cheers. I could be wrong, but most of those problems occur within a certain section. That being said, if the rules of behavior are to be enforced, then they should apply to "everyone."
  18. I got a chuckle out of that statement, too.
  19. Talk to the moderator who locked it. It ain't me.
  20. Isn't it obvious?
  21. Good thought.
  22. I think you're wrong about that. But even if you're right, the idea that we should keep the Fighting Sioux nickname to prevent a few morons from acting on their racist tendencies plays right into the hands of the NCAA and those who want to change the name.
  23. I'll engage in some myth-busting here. The exact same thing was going on in the old REA. When I was shooting pictures in the old arena, I was frequently in the student sections and surrounded by people who were obviously there to flirt and socialize. They had very little interest in what was happening on the ice. EDIT: Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with students going to games to flirt and socialize. That's part of the student experience. I am saying that it doesn't have much, if anything, to do with the new arena.
  24. I've never seen Hakstol and redwing77 together. Think about it.
