  1. Please don't tell me that you were the student of ten thousand piercings who put my air conditioner in couple of summers ago.
  2. So you had cookies and milk with three dozen other UND students at Chuck's and Adele's house. Big deal! I was in his inner sanctum at Twamley, mano a mano. It's the place where he discusses business and serious issues like suing the NCAA. It wasn't like your visit to his house where he gave a stern lecture on student behavior at sporting events and used flash cards to explain why it's not nice to chant the F word in unison at hockey games before you had to lay down on your mat for naptime. You remember it wrong, which isn't surprising considering that your brain is pickled in beer. I'm important enough to get an air conditioner, but not important enough to get central air. So there! Isn't that sort of like saying the Pope is more Catholic than me? And FYI, C. Everett Koop sent me a Life Alert bracelet, so I don't have to go to the home just yet. And I'm sorry, folks, but you better drop the "C-Kup" reference because when I told Chuck about it, he said that it was way too unmanly for him.

    Jordan Parise

It's too bad the NHL wants Parise, but not Briggs. I feel your pain.
  4. No, but it does mean that I've at least talked to them. Yo, Chuckie K's older than me. If you want to be one of his peeps, maybe you should stop dissin' old folks. Know what I'm sayin'?
  5. I might be old, but at least I know how to use spell check. Plus, I have more insurance. I know that you secretly envy my close personal relationships with Chuck and T.J. What else can you do? When you're ready to stop living on Fantasy Island, give me a call.

    Fourth of July

I will join with other SiouxSports.com members in adding my thanks to the men and women of this country who serve in the military. We would not be free without their sacrifices.

I'm a local and I know lots of locals. I wasn't aware of our "choice" until I read your post. Thanks for keeping us locals informed of what we think. Of course people from Grand Forks like to see local kids do well on the team. But outside of a few hardened provincialists, most want the team to do well.

Other than registering for school to be elligible to play, I don't know of any official date on which players must give notification. Obviously, the coaches would prefer to know sooner rather than later.

Goehring is one of my favorite Sioux players, but you have to give Parise his due. The high-scoring teams Karl played on won three WCHA championships. In 2000, the Sioux finished second in the WCHA and won a national championship. In 2004, the year the Sioux probably should have won a national championship with Parise in goal, they lost 1-0 to Denver at the West Regionals. Was that Jordan's fault? No. The past two seasons, UND finished fourth and fifth in the WCHA. Parise was a big part of the Sioux making it to the Frozen Four both years. Even if Jordan leaves after this season, his name will be at the top of the Sioux goalie career record stats for years to come.
  13. According to the article I read yesterday, it's $1.2 million the first year and $1.3 million the second.

Today's Grand Forks Herald has an article by Brad Schlossman about Parise's status. There's also something about Toews. The short answer is: we still don't know.
  15. Which I thought was sort of...well...dumb. If both players had still been on Montana State's athletic teams at the time of the alleged crime, Gamble might have a point. But they'd both proven that they were bad apples and kicked off the teams. What more could the coaches do, especially if there was no evidence showing that they were potential troublemakers at the time they were recruited? Does Gamble have reason to believe that the coaches knew something about the character of these two athletes at the time they were recruited? Those are the questions I'd like answered.
  16. I'm sure everyone has been waiting to read the latest news on the ground squirrel in my garage. I think it's either gone or dead somewhere within the garage. If it's dead, I should know before long, what with the warm weather we've been having. At any rate, we haven't seen it and it hasn't touched the peanut butter in the trap we've left out the past two days. Or maybe I'm just having the same problem as Dave Barry.

    Jordan Parise

All of fargosioux's stats are correct. Just to expand on them a bit more, here are Parise's numbers: 1st - Career save percentage (.921) 1st - Career goals against average (2.14) 2nd - Career wins (55) 2nd - Career shutouts (10) 3rd - Career winning percentage (.713) 6th - Career games played (83) All he needs now is a national championship to go with those impressive numbers.

    The NCAA revealed

I know for a fact that it's otherwise. If you spent some time walking in my shoes, you'd know it, too. Right. Some institutions get frustrated with the challenge and use it as an excuse to give up trying. But UND isn't one of those institutions.

Also remember, as Kupchella pointed out, that it was a unilateral resolution. In other words, UND didn't ask for the resolution and didn't promise anything in exchange for the tribal council's approval. UND didn't sign any contract that committed it to do anything. It was a request from the tribal council that the university do certain things. Overall, I believe that UND has done what the resolution requested and made an honest effort to live up to it. And if it didn't, the tribal council has all the freedom in the world to resicnd the resolution or pass a different one. But it hasn't. That's not to say that UND was free to ignore the requests, and I don't believe that Kupchella did. But, as a practical matter, how realistic was the request for cultural awareness classes for every student at the university? Did the tribal council even ask UND whether or not such a thing was possible before it made the request? Could the university force students to take the class if they didn't want to? Would UND potentially run into civil rights issues if it forced its students to take a class on the culture of one particular race? What if other races demanded such courses for their cultures? And not to split legalistic hairs too finely, but the resolution asks Kupchella to "begin the process of establishing a cultural awareness course for all students." If he started the process, but then ran into problems that made fulfilling the request impracticable, he lived up to what the resolution asked him to do. IowaBison, you can continue to play the role of the NCAA's Bernard Franklin here if you want, but I think you're fighting a losing battle. Regardless of whether you or anyone else agrees with UND's use of the Fighting Sioux nickname, there are huge holes in the NCAA's implementation of the anti-nickname policy, its rationale for implementing it and its inconsistent application of it. Does that mean UND will win its court case against the NCAA? Not necessarily. However, as the series at illini.scout.com demonstrates, how the NCAA has handled this issue is quite typical of how the organization has operated for decades. I'll ask again: Why do you insist on defending this abuse of power?
