Congratulations to Mike Commodore, Mr. Kristi Yamaguchi and all the rest of the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a great series, but in the end, the best team won.

It's actually a Taco John's but we call it a mall.

As long as the NCAA policy against American Indian nicknames and imagery is in effect, there will be no more regionals at REA. The Ralph doesn't meet the NCAA seating requirement to host the Frozen Four.

I'll chime in and agree with Sioux-cia. I'm in the same neighborhood just a couple blocks east of University Park. I work at UND and can easily walk or ride my bike to work when the weather's decent. We've lived in the neighborhood for 14 years and really like it. Our kids received excellent educations at West Elementary School and Valley Middle School. There've been problems with rowdy renters from time to time, but it's been several years since we've had any serious problems. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

For me, it has nothing to do with "nice message board fodder." I think the people who are footing the bill for higher education in North Dakota have a right to know what's going on. Our elected and appointed officials owe us an explanation.
-
I posted this in another thread, but it deserves a thread of its own. The UND Alumni Association and Foundation has established an NCAA Litigation Fund for the lawsuit against the NCAA. Here's the link: http://www.undalumni.org/NCAALitigationFund.htm

I haven't been providing many updates here lately. There have been some items in the Grand Forks Herald the last few days that deserve links. UND NICKNAME: Lawsuit given funding source Donations will be accepted to help pay for litigation against the NCAA's tournament rules Here's a link to the UND Alumni Association's NCAA Litigation Fund. DORREEN YELLOW BIRD COLUMN: Sioux issue takes a step back VIEWPOINT : UND's logo hurts students OUR OPINION: Chancellor deserves board's support

Because as a North Dakota taxpayer, voter and soon-to-be parent of a child in the North Dakota University System, when there's turmoil in the state's higher education system, I want to know what's causing it. How else can I make an informed decision about where the real problem lies? Agreed. Of course, it's possible that Potts manufactured this whole crisis in his head, but I doubt it. That's why having more information about what's caused this problem would be useful. It struck me as rather silly, too. That's what concerns me most about this situation. If the problem as Potts describes it is real, imagine how difficult it will be to find a qualified successor for him.
-
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
I'm with you. I'd like to know specifically what's causing this rift. I'm sure the SBoHE members know what it's about. Someone owes the voters and taxpayers of North Dakota an explanation.
-
I understand that, but I doubt that FSU appreciates all the schools that didn't get waivers pointing at it and saying, "How come they get to be bad and we don't?"
-
Kupchella has flatly stated that there is no connection between the American Indian programs on campus and keeping the Fighting Sioux nickname. That's the way it should be. For name supporters to use these programs as leverage to get their way is, in my opinion, unconscioncable.

Here's an article on Hunter Biship from the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner: Bishop to skate at North Dakota Hunter Bishop? I sense some fertile ground for YaneA, resident sign-maker.
-
Thank you. I was about to make the same point.

Here's a summary of William & Mary's appeal to the NCAA. Although W&M does use the "we're not as bad as other schools" defense, many of the points it makes in its appeal are similar to those made by UND. Here's my favorite part:
-
I agree. Kupchella isn't a particularly eloquent speaker or dynamic, but I do think that he makes a good David in the coming David vs. Goliath battle. He's good at stating UND's case and getting people to empathize with UND's point of view. He should be on TV as much as possible.
-
I think it's just a way of pointing a finger and saying, "Well, at least we're not as bad as them!" UND is doing the same thing with Florida State.
-
Just be prepared for he flood of stories in the next day or two saying that UND has no chance.

I guess we had the same idea.
