  1. Another gem from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press news release: Apparently? Apparently it's too much trouble to actually read the settlement or even find out what the lawsuit was about and who filed it. That being said, it is curious that Jahnke has kept the records sealed even after the case has been settled.

    Radke?

I thought Chorney and Finley were looking for grit in all the wrong places.

    Radke?

Chorney and Finley, too? Edit: And those are potatoes, not soy beans.

    Radke?

    Here is your answer.
  5. Fine. Make your point without resorting to insults and personal attacks.

    Radke?

But he does have a hair band. He just doesn't have any hair to go with it.
  7. And you're getting more obnoxious every time you post. Chill, kid.

    Radke?

Can't we get back to talking about 80s hair bands?
  10. Happy Thanksgiving to you, JFR, and to all the Sioux fans around the USA and the world.
  11. The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press news release: North Dakota should require proper findings by judges before sealing court records Here's an even better idea: Reporters should get the basic facts of the story straight, such as who sued who for what reason.

    Help!

    Face it. You're getting old.
  13. Yes, it would be better that way, but there's no way it happens unless the current tribal governments allow a vote on the issue. I don't see that as a realistic possibility. It's not the state's, the university system's or UND's place to make it happen. The initiative must come from within the reservations. Goetz didn't rule out that possibility when he was on Hot Talk this morning. That's why I think there's some value in allowing people to experience the consequences of their leaders' decisions before it's too late to undo them.
  14. I'll bet that's something no player has ever done before.
  15. I could be wrong, but doing this sooner rather than later seems like good strategy to me. Remember, the tribal governments could do absolutely nothing over the next three years and force UND to retire the nickname by simply sitting on their hands. This way, our highest state officials make the tribes' highest officials fully accountable for the decision. They have to decide whether to abide by the wishes of the majority or do what they feel like doing. The sooner the tribal governments make their decision, the more time the voters have to express their concerns at the polls and other ways. This assumes that there really is strong support for the Fighting Sioux nickname on the Standing Rock and Spirit Lake reservations. One way or the other, we will find out.
  16. Here's a summary of the interview Scott Hennen did this morning on Hot Talk with Chancellor of Higher Education Bill Gotez. This is not a verbatim transcript. I simply took notes attempting to paraphrase the main points.
  17. All I could say when I read this in today's GF Herald was: Wow! [url="http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/index.cfm?id=57815

    Radke?

I don't have to define it. I've heard Hak use the word enough times to know that he values gritty players. I believe that I've heard him apply to Radke's style of play. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me. And you really do need to get a grip. I wasn't defending Radke or THETRIOUXPER, only pointing out that there are other reasons than skill and talent to have a player on the ice.

    Radke?

You forgot one talent that Hak likes: grit.
  20. If I remember correctly, the Turtle Mountain tribe passed a resolution against the Fighting Sioux nickname. They're probably not likely to approve of UND using their name, either.
  21. I've posted a new photo gallery from UND's 44-2 victory over Winona State last Saturday. http://siouxsports.com/hockey/galleries/151.htm
  22. It means that if even one of the tribes is opposed to the Fighting Sioux nickname, UND must change it.
  23. The last time I checked, the lawyers work for the state of North Dakota, the State Board of Higher Education and UND. Don't blame the lawyers. Blame those who wanted to settle and accepted the settlement.
  24. I could be wrong, but I believe the NCAA has said that it will consider the view of any in-state namesake tribe that expresses opposition to a school's nickname. Standing Rock, of course, is opposed. Spirit Lake is either in favor, neutral or opposed, depnding on who you choose to believe.
