I want the teams to play. Up until recently, I wanted it to be annually. Now I think every third year or so would be OK. Financially, it makes it hard to justify every year. It is fun to play a variety of teams. If 3 times a decade makes it more doable then let's do it that way.

I am glad UND opened the Alerus for su. I would expect and hope the opposite would be true. Maybe it will help getting a game scheduled. I am looking forward to the NC game and I will be rooting for su.

Merry Christmas everyone. I don't post much but have a great interest in UND. Thanks for all that post. Hope for better days to come.

There was another post player from Fargo North - I don't remember when he graduated. Harris was a good shooter.

Jon Sonat
Thanks UND. I was trying to remember more of the names of the 1979 - 1982 teams. Steve Brekke was in there. Clausen was an animal. There was a slightly chubby guard.

How many scholarships are available after all this?

As someone who grew up watching Gunther's teams, the lack of fundamentals, discipline, and team play with this very talented group is painful almost to the point of being unbearable. Does the coach have any influence on this group or do we just throw out a basketball and scrimmage. The seniors have made no progress on teamwork in 4 years.
Remember Clausen? Wasn't there a post from Turkey also - can't remember the name. I was at UND late 70's early 80's. Had some great teams - rarely lost at home and won road games regularly also.

New coach will have regain respect and trust of the existing and recruited players. Will have to recruit assistant coaches. Develop a recruiting plan - you can't recruit everywhere. Install discipline - sometimes you need to take two steps back to go forward one step. New coach will need to get the fans back (by winning). Lots of stuff to do. Fans and players will need to be patient. I don't know but it appears Muss lost control of all of this. Lost respect, didn't have quality assistants (proof is that none were offered new coaching job), didn't have a recruiting plan, lost discipline (players see this - just want to be treated fair and the same) lost fans due to terrible performance of team.

SDSU looked good. Moved the ball around and found the open player. They were more physical than us. I am looking for a reason to be optimistic going forward. Are we a 500 team or 800 team?

What and in what order are the first five things a new coach needs to do at UND?

Congrats to NDSU.

I'm going on a NATIONAL SEARCH tonight for beer and pizza. I'll report my findings around 35 days from now.
I am with you

If the hope is to recruit top talent to UND, I don't think Schweigert is the man for the job. He is good at the X's and O's, but not at getting the Johnny's and Joe's.
This coming from someone that was recruited by him. Of course he was competing with the now Head Coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, so maybe it isn't a fair comparison.
I just think the youth and energy that DeBoer brings would have a better impact on recruiting. For those wanting the traditional 3-4 defense that Schweigert installed, obviously DeBoer has the connections at SIU to bring that scheme back, or go a different way if he feels that is what is best.
Interesting. You would know. I have talked to him a few times and thought he was very personable. I don't know who would be better. Done is good!!

I don't look badly at a player who transfers. Just shows how ugly things were. It does reflect a little on how they thought the team would do. I can see some players asking themselves why deal with the mess as it sits now if they have better options? In a way, it will make next year more enjoyable without all the high expectations. Just watch games and see if we can knock a few favorites off. We will eventually get to where we should be.

I just want this program to bottom out so it can start improving. Once a coach is hired is the program at a low point or does it go lower? How much more pain must we go through?
-
Why did Muss fail?
-
I'm going to keep saying I believe the program needs a fresh start.
UND 2.0
Fresh start as in all new coaches without ties to UND? New players? 4-5 year plan? Recruit new areas? Start with 3 wins in yr 1 and end with 10 wins in year 5? Older players sit as younger players mature?
-
What do some have against Coach Schweigert? Is this a case of to be an expert you have to come from someplace else? Are folks here evaluating his coaching abilities or are they dismissing him mainly because he is from here?
-
I know it is short sighted but I have trouble thinking about moving up a level in football. We have so far to go. The program is in such bad shape. How long till it can be turned around? How wrong am I?
-
This is the year. I agree. Not very optimistic right now though. You never know what team will show up.
-
I'm hardly an SU 'fan,' but it's hilarious seeing folks here put down an NDSU win over Notre Dame while defending UND losses to Pacific and Bowling Green, two universities that most Sioux alums couldn't even find on a map.

Not a lot of turnovers. Both teams shot well. First time I saw UND play this year. UND played like I thought they would. su played much better than I thought they would. We did miss quite a few bunnies? Gave up too many points. Hope for no more injuries

88-83 We were down by about 6 or 7 with minutes left.
-
Good game. Glad we won. Both teams are much better than last year.
NDSU at the Alerus

I think it is a little more than purely business. The Alerus could have come up with a lot of reasons not to do this. Do you think Alabama would open up their practice fields to Auburn?
